Anyone watching this? Football's on right now, Japan beating Spain, UAE currently beating Uruguay...the worlds gone mad.

I'm so not up on this Olympics. When I was in High School and University I'd watch pretty much everything I could. Just don't have the time now. I'll have to catch some highlights when I can.

I might watch some clips on the internet, but I'd be a lot more excited if this was the Winter Olympics and then I could watch some glorious CURLING.

Not even joking. God I love curling.

I'm Canadian and even I know Curling is a terrible sport.

Shame too since it's usually one of our better chances at a medal.

That is factually incorrect Vivi22, curling is the best sport in the world aside from Mesoamerican Ballgame and Blitzball. :colbert:

I'll probably watch what I can every day, or catch highlights. I'll happily watch any Olympic sport that isn't synchronised swimming though.

What, like friendlies? Or do they just start when they feel like it?

It's all happening in Cardiff for the football, getting home from work is an absolute nightmare. But not as much of a nightmare as the people who actually go to the stadium go through. Two hour waits while they comprehensively search your bag for liquids and tactical-nuclear-weapons-masquerading-as-food, police with MP5s at every gate, bans on big hats/flags/political t-shirts/mastercard, and god help you if you don't like Heineken, because that's all you're permitted to drink...

tl;dr i was already fed up of the olympics two months ago, and live in a different country to london

^Ugh. Glad I was in and out of London before rerouting of public transportation started.

Being Canadian the only Olympics I care about are the winter ones and even then I don't pay much attention. Maybe I'll watch some football/soccer but that's about it.

Is there a place where you can watch this without having to have a cable or satellite sub or something?

I wanna watch horses jump over fences and things like that

I also do not have cable or satellite and wish I could watch, but I'll just have to take updates here in this thread instead.

Watched some of the men's gymnastics this morning as per the lady's request. Saw quite a few mistakes, which was a surprise. Maybe the pressure is getting to some of the younger athletes. Also watched some mixed doubles badminton. Fucking awesome. China absolutely fucking demolished Germany. China is the king of those random sports.

Why does volleyball on a hard floor have six people per team but beach volleyball only has two people?

Shorty
07-29-2012, 05:25 AM
So you can focus more on the beautiful bodies that are in a utopia-like setting! It's much less distracting with only two people.

So far I've learned that fencing is just a lot of wiggling flaccid swords at each other, followed by large bouts of guttural screams.

Went to an Olympics party last night. My thoughts:

-That synchronized women's diving is rigged, man.
-The mess up in men's gymnastics from the Chinese had us laughing SO HARD.
-WAY TO FAIL IN THE MEN'S RELAY SWIMMING USA
-Women's gymnastics is just a pleasure to watch. Everyone's a judge. I love Gabby from Team USA. Get it, girl.

I'm just catching up with the opening ceremony on BBC iPlayer. Anyone who hasn't seen it MUST watch it. It is incredible!

I'm sure it'll be my favourite memory to detract from our pitiful medals total.

You're all nuts, it's been a feast of sport for the last ten days and I've loved it, especially having the chance to watch any sport I want online via the BBC. Plus Cyprus won their first ever Olympic medal!

Australia has underperformed this olympics. I think Kazakhstan is still ahead of us in total medals. Pretty sure New Zealand is ahead of us in golds still. Our swimmers just didn't show up. Loved watching some random sports though, saw a women's table tennis match between Singapore and S Korea and holy fuck it was awesome.

No, Kazakhstan is ahead in terms of gold medals won, Australia has won far more in total (it's just in comparison to recent Olympics the total is low). And Australia has now overtaken New Zealand in gold medals too.

Kazakhstan were beating us in total medals at one point though, so I'm glad to see that's changed. But gosh golly grief we need to pick up our game. There has been talk of enacting that clause in our constitution to take control of NZ so we don't fucking fail so hard.

You guys can do that? See, this is why I could never have any sort of real power. I'd exercise clauses like that just for fun.

Whoa, chill bro. This thread is about the Olympics; we need a new one for the Paralympics. I'm often surprised by just how smurfing good some of these paralympians are. One of my buddies is a thrower for Aus and smurf man he could give the able bodied throwers a run for their money. Hoping he does well this time, iirc he medalled at the commonwealth games so high hopes for the lad.

EDIT: nope it was the fact he broke the world record for hammer throw like half a dozen times.
