Around 1:33 am in Toronto. The rover discovery landed on Mars.

I definitely am happy.

However some people debate that space exploration is a waste of money. What is your opinion on this?

Curiosity.

My opinion is that those people are desperately ill-informed and should really do even a little cursory reading of the history of space exploration, and the benefits it has brought us here on Earth, before they run their mouths.

I mean, I personally think that if you don't have a permanent nagging insistence inside yourself to go because it's there, there is something fundamentally wrong with you as a human being - but telling people that won't do much. So just point out the radical material benefits of NASA's work and there's no real answer.

Space exploration is important, and it has been ever since the Space Race in the 50's and 60's. Unfortunately, it's hard to justify that importance considering the dreadful state of the U.S. economy.

Just so you all know, Friday, I was at the launch pad where this thing left earth  yeaaaaahhhhhhh.

This is exciting cause the curiosity has a full chemical lab on it so it can do tests right there on mars! I'm sure we'll learn loads of stuff because of it! Yay! SPACE!

To motivate the team, NASA had the clip from playing the original Total Recall that has Arnold saying, "Get your ass to Mars," over and over again. Now all we have to do is start the reactor.

Next we need to send people to Mars. I volunteer.

This is incredibly exciting. Any and all exploration beyond ourselves and what we know is exciting. Which is why we have to, have to fight to bring manned exploration back to the US and fuck the defense industry.

The method of how they landed it on Mars is really amazing to watch. NASA's Curiosity Mars Rover: '7 Minutes of Terror' Animation Video - YouTube (http://youtu.be/kQ_8Md4iK-o)

I am so filled with lust right now, but I've no idea what it's aimed at.

GODDAMN SPACE. Hell yeah. Space space space. Ehehehehee! :excited:

EDIT: Also, "cosmic dismount" is my new favourite phrase. Also also, I find 15 successful missions out of a 40 an excellent success rate. Screw you, news.

I can't find the source graphic now but NASA improves the economy of every single state in the union, from Hawaii to Maine.

When you find it, post it. Then I can post it on all the stupid pages on facebook who have put up that equally stupid meme thing.

You'll get updates on all kinds of technological breakthroughs and other world news. I've been following the Mars rover for a while now (not physically, obviously) and I'm pretty impressed that they actually managed to land it. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-18933037)

Freeze you guys, you need to chill out. It's ice to see you all having fun but it's just not cool anymore.

yeah now what? ice beats water, fools.

Also, Mars seems like it would be a really boring place to visit. Wake me up when Wendy's or Dunkin Donuts colonise it.

SO PRETENTIOUS, OMG.

I mean, I think it's important work, space exploration. And I'm in full support of a lot of different scientific endeavors, including seeing what's out there beyond earth. But ME personally, why the fuck would I want to go there?
