I dig the violins. I dig the samples. I dig bombastic classical pieces. But Muse, why oh why did you get the dubstep virus?

I have never liked any dub-step song. I'm all for a tune having good bass or good house music, but the genre just sounds silly & annoying. I'm sure from Muse's point of view they wanted to try something different & not be labelled a one-genre band - which I'm all for, but bottom line; I think the song is crap. Bad music is bad music at the end of the day.

Can't listen to the link right now because I am at work. Dubstep has reached the point where almost every song is unintentional self parody with how the breakdowns overdo the WUB WUB and other distortion type sounds.

Loved dubstep when it first came out...it's absolute trash now. That idiot Skrillex is the worst thing to happen to music since Yoko Uno

Dubstep is terrible. However it's so prevalent I actually have ONE song with dubstep after the drop. Ridiculous.

However whenever I complain about dubstep my friend joe will just play Gabba / Gabber

after 0.1 seconds I cry and say 'I'm sorry just play dubstep'

it's that bad.

i really hope that's the only song on the cd that is doing this robot screetching

the last one was good but mostly for that orchestral set at the end of the album
they should really just do some compositions and not do this trendy rock stuff anymore

I do enjoy some dubstep, as I've always enjoyed chiptunes, keygenmusic, 8-bit techno remizes of songs, etc. but there is a lot of titty stupid dubstep out there. Some people seem to think random noises thrown about in their music with a loud bass track in the background makes things "music." It's like a high school garage band where the lead guitarist and the rhythm guitarist can't agree on whether they should play neo-punk or black metal except none of them have ever even heard of nonetheless studied music theory.

I don't mind dubstep. It's dumb music, yeah, but dumb music has it's place. It's the type of crap you blast in the gym to drown out the inexplicable pop radio that usually gets pumped through the weight room.

Skrillex is exceedingly crap though.

See, if you take out that fucking "loose arse flapping through jets of diarrhoea" sound, that's a great little track. Not something that I would listen to for the fun of it, but something I'd enjoy hearing on a night out or would have on whilst working out. It's the stupid little noises of indigestion that ruin what might've been good beats. :(

smurf dubstep.

Okay, I'll buckle and admit that there are a few dubstep tracks that are original and interesting, but for the most part I hate dubstep because almost all of it is that annoying "wob" noise on turbo fire. It's another of those genres of music that is perfect for annoying the neighbours, and I despise music that is too accidentally capable of that.

I like dubstep. A lot. I would not, at any stretch, say I know enough about it to be a connoisseur. I leave all the recommendations of good dubstep to Cuch because he knows far more about the genre than I do.

And I kind of liked the Muse song when I heard it the other night. And then they said it was Muse and I was like "but do we still get the old Muse music too?" and the answer is (probably) no and therefore I am sadface.

I've always heard people go on out Muse, and I've never listened to them.

So I decided to listen to that new song, which uses some dubstep, and then go back to listen to their other stuff.

Y'know what? From my admittedly short romp through their songs I observed they have a broad range of sounds, have always incorporated different forms of electronica, and been pretty experimental.

So for those of you worried that this new song is their new sound, I doubt it. I like some dubstep, and I think they actually did a pretty decent job of making something that was different. I would be surprised if they stuck with it, though. A little here or there in some of there songs is a cool idea to me, though.

Also, cool dubstep/metalcore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAO3RY1-FvI) experiment.

Can someone explain to me exactly what dubstep is? Like, what makes a song fall into the dubstep genre?

I've listened to a fair amount of stuff labeled dubstep, including the song linked in the first post of this thread and...it just sounds like obnoxious techno. I mean, is that all dubstep is? Why is it called dubstep? What sound is it that's separating it from other techno/house music?

Someone enlighten me please.

It's basically music that falls between 120 and 140 BPM, has a drop, and uses wobble bass. :p
