Images. While "art" may be subjective, any image containing nudity which the poster considers art must be kept within the confines of the art forum, and marked as NSFW. While the art in question may contain nudity, it may not be sexual, or you will be banned. If you are unsure as to whether or not your image will get you banned, PM it to a staff member to have it cleared for posting. If you fail to do so and a staff member deems the image obscene, you will very likely be banned. If you post nudity (anything covered by a bathing suit) outside of a marked art forum thread, you will very likelyalso be banned. An image that implies sexual acts, regardless of whether or not it actually shows them, will also get you banned. Otherwise violent or disturbing images will be dealt with at the discretion of the staff, so use caution.

Bleys took the only rule that I feel was highly debatable so let's talk about everyone's other favourite subject: nudity!

Now I'm actually all for this rule. While I do think that society in general is far too uptight about things like sex and nudity and we should cast aside these puritan inhibitions and have crazy group sex parties left and right, the reality is that there's not only some underage users around (and the possibility of underage users exists), but also there's just not a whole lot of discussion value to be had about pictures of sex and nudity outside of an artistic context.

Now, we can certainly discuss the artistic merit, or lack thereof, of things like pornography, or discuss how terrible someone's boob job looks, or how big or small someone's penis is without pictures (ok, so maybe the last one is difficult without pictures), but is there any real value to it? Does such discussion really elevate the forum in anyway? Does it lend us any credibility as an FF news site? I'd say the answer is unequivocally no. Anyone disagree?

TLDR: you want to fap? Go somewhere else.

I agree. I come here for Final Fantasy. In the words of Mufasa, "Remember who you are". The conversation belongs elsewhere, accept NSFW material means, quite frankly, I can't come here during breaks/slow time at work. Which would just be a shame. There's enough porn everywhere else on the internet.

I think that enforcing these rules under threat of banning is a little extreme, but then again, nudity doesn't offend me. Is there any reason we have to go to such lengths to prevent this kind of stuff? Blatant spamming of pornography is one thing but if someone posts nudity once, does it necessarily warrant exile from the forums? I guess I'm also calling into question whether it's a perma or temp ban. Temp ban I'd be for, I suppose. Gotta have some disciplinary action somehow.

That being said, I'm glad that we've retained the family friendly atmosphere here. While it doesn't offend me, I'd certainly prefer to not see NCG's set changed to a portrait shot of male genitalia when Psy deems he needs to be punished.

I do think that this is an outdated part of the rule, if anything. By this logic, I would be unable to post pictures me using my Shake Weight, which has really boosted my upper arm strength since I've begun using it. :colbert:

This is a good point, and one I hadn't considered when I made my thread this morning (I was in a hurry and grabbed the nudity rule because it let me make a thread with that delightfully redundant title). Discussion!

Anyway, perhaps the issue of punishment is one which should be revisited. I'd agree with the idea that someone should be punished, but I think Shorty may be on to something with regard to lessening the severity. Like you said, porn is one thing (and something which is generally, and luckily, quite obvious to all), but simple nudity is another matter. Not to say we should allow it, but perhaps context and content should be taken into account to warrant a warning, or perhaps a drunk tanking on a first offense and perhaps a longer term ban for a second? Porn can continue to carry the permaban.

I guess this does tread on a grey area and it comes back to the question raised in Bleys thread of how family friendly we want/need the forum to be. I agree this part of the rule could result in punishing things which are perfectly innocent (and quite hilarious), and certainly no worse than people normally see on evening (or even daytime?) TV, let alone half the sites on the internet.

I understand why we'd want to keep the forum family friendly: we're something of a fairly civil anomaly in the cesspool that is the internet and gaming forums in particular. But many of us are over the age of 18. Some by a far wider margin than others. Maybe we do need to take a serious look at each of the rules and decide if we want to loosen them up a bit since most of us really are adults here.

Exactly. Additionally, I don't even believe I see this part of the rule being enforced unless it's really over the line. Plenty of racey but hilarious stuff goes up around here.

I want to echo this. Most of us are well on our way to adulthood, which means that things like nudity become more and more apparent as we get older. I think that overall, this site has struck a good balance between allowing room for harmless jokes and censorship should minors be lurking about.

Basically, if someone is obviously posting and spamming pornographic pics as a way to say, "**** YOU" then we have to ban them. They obviously have stopped caring anyway.

However, if someone did it as a joke, and the imagie wasn't, like, Japanese hentai polar bear child porn or something, then a warning or suspension would do.

This is actually one case in which I am for censorship. Lots of people visit EoFF at work. Let's not get those people fired.

No change is needed here.

Fair enough point. I guess I forget sometimes since my internet use isn't tracked at my current job believe it or not.

Yeah, I fail to understand why anyone would take issue with this rule. I don't go to classes to get laid, and I don't go to strip clubs for the conversation. There's a time and a place for waving your dick around, and a message board is obviously not such a place.

Actually, yeah. That is a good point. I really should have thought of that beforehand because there are plenty of times I visit this place on break or WHEN I'M NOT ON BREAK at work.

I am the opposite of a Puritan, and I think the American shame of nudity is pretty ridiculous, but I must also agree (mostly) with Bleys. That is a reality we live in, and kids and working people do browse these forums.

However, and most of you have no idea how ironic this is coming from me, I also disagree with the auto-permaban for pornography rule of old, and to their credit I think the staff is moving away from that as well. I agree with Sephex that other factors, such as the reason for the image being posted, is a relevant consideration, which is an issue Sephex seemed to hint at. People have spammed porn here at EoFF as a "fuck you" to try to get banned, and in that case it is certainly warranted. But linking/posting something pornographic as an accident or inappropriate joke, and the staff actually believes the person (hell, maybe the person had made 10,000 perfectly fine posts over the years)? I think there should be room for lighter discipline. Permaban should be a punishment, not the only considered punishment.

This rule seems fair. It's not even for the under age users specifically, as some people (like myself) wouldn't want to see images like that. There's no need to have to post it here, if you want to share something with someone then do it privately knowing you can't insult or upset anyone else.

Plus, nudity images just sort of degrades the whole forum if we relaxed the rule, really. And we'll just be inviting people to share, essentially, porn.
