I happen to be obsessed with "First of the Year" at the moment. Also, I am totally slam drunk as of making this thread. Yes, I know I'm way behind the curve. Also, I happen to know nothing of the dub step movement.

From the local research I've done, however, Skrillex has quite a bit of popularity, and incidentally, quite a bit of hate.

How do all you dubstep connoisseurs feel about Slrillex?

I don't like dubstep, so I don't care for Skrillex. He also reminds me of a failed Dave Lister cosplay.

In fact if dubstep ever dies down and he's the only noticeable dubstep artist left simply because he's so well known I'm gonna go up to him with my head shaved and say "everybody's dead Dave!"

I second ReloadPsi. I have no investment in the genre or the man.

I knew people regard Ric Flair as a dinosaur but that's taking it a bit far :P

I like Skrillex. Reptile's Theme, All I Ask of You, and KILL EVERYBODY are all bangers that I've played countless times.

That being said, I don't like how his popularity has worked out in the electronic music community. A lot of people discount dubstep because they don't like Skrillex, but there is much, much better dubstep out there. And Skrillex really isn't true dubstep, he's more like electro house, or what has become known as "Brostep", a poor man's dubstep propagated by the likes of Caspa and Rusko (both of whom I actually enjoy as well). So I think he's not a very good representation of the genre, but because of his meteoric rise to fame alot of people hear "dubstep" and think "Skrillex".

But damn are some of his songs catchy.

My favourite part of dubstep is thinking about new ways of describing how 'filthy' a song is.

I don't think about Skrillex.

Personally I don't understand dubstep at all but that's just me.
