ITT we examine the current status of British slang.

We begin by answering the thread title's question...

Seriously, what is it?

A male displaying percieved feminine characteristics through actions which cause his peers to think less of him.Being a big girls blouse is much worse than being just a girls blouse, thus it's highly insulting nature. Also used to force a man to do something they fear through peer pressure.

Psychotic:I don't want to to go sky diving while having sex with you.
MANUS: Don't be such a big girls blouse.get in the plane and bring the condoms. dear.
Psychotic:Fine...

Australia has some cockney-inspired rhyming slang that makes about as much sense.

Psychotic:Fine...This actually happened. I'm not telling porkies.

Still not really sure what this means, but, if it's an insult, then Raistlin is one.

EOFF taught me what a big girls blouse was years ago.

Cockney rhyming slang makes sense to anybody?

I thought the whole idea was to refrain from making sense. Rhyming slang is a block of mitt.

I don't think I would mind being called a 'big girl's blouse'. At the end of the day, it's an item of clothing that contains and is in contact with a lady's ample bosom.

There are worse things to be.

Big Girl's Blouse is SO oldschool. These days you're a gusset. (Though it might be a very localised Northern term)

Too many syllables as an insult is what it is.

they are on a whole other level of profanity over there

True. Sometimes it's more complicated than all the Japanese words for "you"

For example, c**t can be either extremely nasty (and probably get you a punch in the face) or affectionate, depending on how close you are with the person and their gender. And whether they're the type of people who take swearing at each other and grinning as affection.

OTOH, I don't think I've ever heard "wazzock" or "tosspot" as terms of endearment

I thought dropping the C-bomb in a "positive" way was limited to the Bogan. Fuck me your Brits are weird.

The c-word is never affectionate. Never, ever ever.

Basically, any and all words can be affectionate and insulting, depending on how their used.

You know, because that's what words are, you plebs. xD

Yes it can. My mom and I call each other :bou::bou::bou::bou: all the time.

I'll throw a "Monty you terrible, terrible :bou::bou::bou::bou:!" in there from Withnail and I.

I'll also throw insults around like confetti on xbl to dan and paul and they know I loves them.

I thought 'Big Girls Blouse' was an Aussie thing because 'ouse' sounds are so much better/horrifying/hilarious in our accent. That'd be grooouuuuse.

Wouldn't it be "blass," more or less?

Pheesh

In our accent? Not at all.

The "ow" sounds is really extreme, and gets more prominent the more 'Aussie' you go.
