THEATRHYTHM: ON FINAL FANTASY EYES
The musical competition

This lovely game is based upon the equally lovely game you see above this message (FYI, it is my new favourite game) and through taking part in the EOFF Olympic experience I thought of a idea.

The olympics in real life are all about the legacy right? Why not have a legacy from our own olympics? In this sense, this is just the first step of a multitude of other quizzes and competitions, all for the fun and betterment of our forum family!

The Rulebook

The following game (Incase you have never heard of Theatrhythm) is music based, though actually owning Theatrhythm is not required. Instead, each round will consist of either:

An excerpt from song lyrics taken from any of the Final Fantasy games, where you have to guess the song title and game.
Another excerpt from song lyrics taken from any of the Final Fantasy games, where a segment is blanked out, guess the phrase in the song and the game!
Finally, an actual sample of a sountrack taken from any of the Final Fantasy games, where you have to guess the song title, and where it is from.

No matter what the actual format is, the players can score up to two whole points per round!

But that's not all, aside from your ability to read and listen (Hopefully quite well) you will also have the opportunity to take part in an extra question for bonus points! You can be asked for anything; it's not tied to any format. It's definitely a general music knowledge question.

Now, this actually isn't part of the olympics, so theres no teams, it's an out and out free for all. Whoever gets the most points will get an imaginary prize! I'm not sure exactly how long this will go on for, probably until I get bored. Also, format your answers in spoiler code, like so:

*Humming One Winged Angel*
And for bonus questions:
*Humming Movement In Green*

Right then, without further ado...

Question One

Review the following translation:

The god sleeps

And the children light a fire

That'll never go out

So that he may never awaken

Which is the name of this song? And from which game is it in?

Bonus One

Consider the following scene:

What is the full name of the battle music which plays while fighting this battle?

Good luck!

I had no idea so I used Google. :( Very tricky though!

Nascent Requiem I think. If only I could remember which song played at which point in the final battle(s) against Orphan.

I wanted them to have a sort of challenge to them. Use the lyrics to help you.

I'll leave this one open for a while longer, as your the only respondent so far :( It's been almost three days!

Don't worry Formalhaut! Finding the happy medium between hard and easy is very hard itself! Also I know virtually nothing of FFXIII's soundtrack haha.

Jiro

Oh the lyrics helped amazingly! Took me right there it did ;)

I know Jiro is just waiting agonizingly to hear the results, but they shall be revealed tonight. I'm just trying to get people involved, so I'm squeezing the deadline as far as I can!

Jiro

I'm patient enough! Don't worry pal :D

I've relented.

And how amazing, Jiro scores all the points for this round! Who knew? :(

Anyway, the correct answers were...

Question one

I hope you looked at the lyrics closely. "The God Sleeps".
Now which game has some sort of God which is sleeping, similar to the damn game...

Bingo! It was "Somnus" from the as of yet unreleased "Final Fantasy VS XIII".

Bonus One

Indeed, there were many different final battle themes in FFXIII, but the one that was played
during the very last battle was...

Ding! Nascent Requiem!

This means the scores are...

1) Jiro, with 0 Standard Questions + 1 Bonus Question = 1 Total Points!

It's definitely all to play for eh...

Anyway, round two has begun, and with it two more questions!

(I will do listening tasks in the next question people, still getting to grips with
how to actually do it)

Question two

Review the following "English version" song lyrics:

Our paths they did cross, though I cannot say just why

We met, we laughed, we held on fast, and then we said goodbye

And who'll hear the echoes of stories never told?

Let them ring out loud till they unfold

From what game is this song from, and what is this song called?

Bonus Two

The song "Eyes On Me" from Final Fantasy VIII is a very famous song, even winning "Song Of The Year For Western Music" at the 14th Annual Japan Gold Disk Award in 1999.

Who was the Hong Kong singer who sang this song?

Jiro

Melodies of Life!

Faye Wong. Never thought I'd need that piece of trivia.

Formalhaut (http://home.eyesonff.com/members/37510.html) can get me started how?

Formalhaut

It's simple, simply look at Questions Two And Bonus Two.

After doing that, try and guess the answer, by using spoiler tags (look at BB code listing to help you, I get confused on a regular basis)

If your correct, you will earn points!

Sorry I'm late class! Anyway, lets tally up what's been happening so far then.

How amazing! More participants, lets see who was correct...

Question Two

People were correct! It was Melodies of Life from IX! However, not everyone mentioned the game as well, meaning those people get just one point for listing the song.

Bonus Two

Not everyone answered this question, which was a shame because a lucky guess may also have won you the points! As it turns out, the singer was Faye Wong!

This means the following scores...
__________________________________________________________________

This round

1) Faris! 2 standard points + 1 bonus point = 3 points!
1) Shauna! 2 standard points + 1 bonus point = 3 points!
2) Jiro! 1 standard point + 1 bonus point = 2 points!
3) Goldenboko! 1 standard point = 1 point!

This means...

1) Jiro, with 1 Standard point + 2 Bonus points = 3 Total Points!
1) Faris, with 2 Standard points + 1 Bonus points = 3 Total Points!
1) Shauna, with 2 Standard points + 1 Bonus points = 3 Total Points!
2) Goldenboko, with 1 standard point + 0 Bonus points = 1 Total Point!

The game has truly begun!

Lets see what the third set holds...

Question Three

Please listen to the following sound recording:

37550

(Yes, that was me singing for the FFXIII karaoke competition, it won as I was the only entry!)

Anyway, What is the name of that song, and from which game is it? Good luck, I murdered it.

BonusThree

And finally, the bonus question! I want this one somewhat simple so...

Many games have had a piano collection, this is a humble piano arrangement of many famous songs throughout the series; I love them, as they really provide a fan service to the dedicated followers. Besides, who doesn't like piano?

Which was the very first piano collection?

Simple enough, and good luck!

Noel's Theme - The Last Travel (FFXIII-2)
That song is so memorable that no matter how much you butchered it, it would've still been easily recognizable all the same. Well that and you posted what song it was in the Olympic Event (might not have been a good idea to openly say that is the same song).

Final Fantasy IV? I am not sure, but it's the first FF Piano Collection I have!

Formalhaut

Eh, oh well, guess I'll give everyone a chance to get points on the board!

And can I remind everyone that for the standard questions, you need both the song title AND the game it is from.

Seriously, so many people have forgotten that segment. And you could at least guess the bonus question Karifean!

FFIV  I don't remember seeing any earlier ones in stores.

Noel's Theme from FFXIII-2

I believe it was a piano collection for FFIV that came first.
