Which is better?

At what?

Slothy
10-02-2012, 02:30 PM
Space by virtue of being infinite, expanding, and surprisingly easier to explore since you don't have an ocean trying to crush you. Plus, literally everything is in space. And if I had to choose how I wanted to die, space offers more varied and spectacular options. Ripped apart in a black hole, burned up falling into a star, aliens, asteroids, crashing into a gas giant, having my blood boil in the vacuum of space. Cool stuff. With the ocean it's basically either crushed to death, drown, or shark. Only the last one at least makes for an interesting story you will never get to tell.

At what?

Does it matter? Space is automatically better at everything except being wet. And who wants to be wet?

Space is more awesome in general, but the ocean has some of the most fascinating life (that we know of). Still, there's much more to explore and learn from space.

I rather doubt it, but space is HUGE. there is probably some badass stuff out there.
By logic, there isn't any reason for anything to exist, so by the arguement, since we do exist, every possibility and imagineability must exist in some form in some universe. So why not ours?

Actually, according to number 5 on this list (http://www.cracked.com/article_19479_the-6-most-mind-blowing-things-ever-discovered-in-space.html#5), space is better at that too.

Also, anything that could possibly exist in our oceans could most likely be found in several other places in the universe. Even specific organisms. Thus, space wins.

I've come to you today as someone who carries within him the true aspirations of Zeon. Do not think of me as Char of the Principality of Zeon, but as the son of Zeon Deikun. Zeon Deikun's legacy has nothing to do with the greed and hatred of the Zabi clan! Zeon Deikun did not build the Principality of Zeon! The Titans do as they please with the Earth Federation Forces. So it becomes apparent that they are worse than the Zabi family ever was. Humanity went to space so that the planet would not collapse under the weight of the people on it. Once there, they flourished, expanding their living space as they built more colonies on their own. Their success filled them with hubris and dreams of glory, leading to the creation of evils like the Zabi family. We mustn't repeat that mistake! Why won't people understand that their horizons will be expanded by moving into space? We believe that humanity should no longer pollute the Earth! But the Titans consist of people whose souls are pulled down by gravity. They think only of ravaging the planet! From the dawn of time, mankind has played in this cradle called Earth. But now, humanity must leave the nursery behind! Our infancy has come to an end! Tell me why, at this turning point, why must we fight amongst each other and further pollute the Earth!? The Earth should be returned to its natural state. And all humanity must live in outer space. Otherwise, Earth will no longer be "The Planet of Water". Even this very city of Dakar, is slowly being engulfed by the desert. This is how exhausted the Earth is! Every one of us would like to see the Earth remain alive and beautiful. If so, we should not cling to the Earth like parasites just to fulfill our selfish desires! The Titans have started a battle, disregarding the lives of this assembly!

No, there's oceans of stuff under the oceans we don't know about. There's worlds of stuff in space we know nothing about. And asteroids. And comets. And stars. And nebulae. And black holes. And... well, I'll just leave it there so I'm not here too long.

And if evidence that there was once flowing water on Mars is "finding rocks" then sure; it's finding rocks. And that's still more interesting and has greater implications for the nature of life, the Universe, and our own existence than anything we will find in the ocean. Black holes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_hole) do things that are actually cool like warping space and time, or sitting at the center of the galaxy with more than four million times as much mass as the sun. To further this argument, definitions must be drawn.
If Space is going to be used with it's "Universe outside of Earth" definition, then this is a completely broken argument, as the universe's oceans would be a subset of space.

A more proper debate would be:
A. The Universes Oceans
V.
B. The Near Vacuum void between planets, stars, star systems. Etc.

I voted space. Why, you may ask? Or you may not care, and that is fine as well...

The ocean is cool, don't get me wrong. We've only explored a very small amount, and there is much to discover. Also, it has sharks. Sharks are my favorite creature ever. But golly gee, why would space be better?

Well, lets think about it this way.

It's Space. The Universe is so vast and gigantic. Who knows what lies beyond our galaxy, other than the little spots we can see with super telescopes?

I mean, seriously. It takes 23 YEARS to get to Pluto. (Pluto ILY <3 you'll always be a planet to me.)

In our lifetimes, we will not know what is beyond. Hell, we may or may not see more UFO pictures, which will easily be dismissed as weather balloons or swamp gas. But the thought that. There very well could be other life out there, watching us? It's fascinating, to me at least.

And let's not forget all the theories involving the universe...

My personal favorite?

That we are all a hologram, projected from the far corners of space.

Know what else is fascinating?

That this may or may not be the first instance of a "Universe." (I'm well versed in this for some reason. That, and this part is just AMAZING.)

Every Googol year (1 followed by 100 zeroes) there is a probability that the universe will end. All that will be left is nothingness. Which okay, we're all gonna die, zomg.

The REALLY fascinating part, is that after a Googolplex, which is a really large number. Something like 10(10^100). Anyway. After that amount of time has passed, it all begins anew. Things start to form, and the big bang, yadda yadda. It's fascinating to think, that perhaps one time or another, someone just like you or me was sitting around, working mundane jobs, etc.

TL;DR:

Space is fucking amazing.
