The Plan

Friday 18th January - Pre Meetup Meetup
An evening of delightful bars and upbeat drinking await in the evenings meetup warmup as we sample the refined nightlife of Manchester's infamous Northern Quarter. This part of the meet is a bit more informal and will probably be arranged as and where Iceglows insatiable thirst for ladies takes him. If you're thinking of coming along to this bit let me know via PM (or other means, whatever tickles your pickles so to speak) and I'll keep you in the loop.

Saturday 19th January - The Main Event
N.B. Please note the timings are there just to give an idea of flow and not set in stone!

11:00 - 12:00 - Manchester Piccadilly Station
Normally we would meet up in Piccadilly Gardens but knowing the weather around that time of year it might be better if we wait around indoors instead of out.

12:00 - 17:00 - Manchester Museum Tour and Look Round the City
We'll probably hit up either the Manchester Museum (with it's extensive range of stuffed animals, dinosaur bones and miscellaneous tat) or the larger Museum of Science and Industry (with it's space, science and industry exhibits). After that we'll have a wander round town taking in the sights before moving on to...

17:00 - 18:00 - FOOD!
Going somewhere for a slap up meal, depending on what people fancy there is a wide range of wonderful eateries and fast food joints (except Taco Bell, NEVER TACO BELL!).

18:00 - 20:00 - Bowling, Laserquest or Cinema
The world is our oyster for some family friendly, competitive team "sports".

20:00 - LATE - Team Chocobo Takes Manchester!
We'll hit up the town and go for a night out, make some Final Fantasy jokes to the ladies and hopefully have some amusing photos!

Sunday 20th January - So Long and Thanks for All the Fries
We'll meet up for some breakfast and fries (the fries are traditional!), hang around town and see everyone off!

I am posting because you told me to.

Also I may come along - if I have money/time at that point. :3 Having money depends on me getting a job, and having the free time also depends on me getting a job. So, we'll see. xD Either location is good, because it's all a gazillion miles away from my current location.

anyone who posts suggestions other then the two cities in the poll options may be subject to Psy getting bored and modifying their profiles, MAY!)Wait, I'm being encouraged to rape profiles now? Good lord. I was insufferably bad about that when everybody hated it, just think of what I can do now I'm legitimised!

I'm definitely going to this!

Iceglow
10-08-2012, 06:44 AM
I like how I'm given no fucking choices on arriving or not along with Psy. But then what would be a EOFF UK meet up without us? It'd be a sad and terrible thing with no outrageous conversational topics. Just Baloki yiffing everything that moved.

Personally I'd be happier to have it in Brum, mainly because I'd have to go to Manchester and that's like the arse end of the world for a Londoner. Get me dates though so I can get a holiday request to my boss asap.

Baloki

Iceglow

Shauna

Manchester is probably less travel for me also. Not that it'll increase my chances of showing up, but the idea of spending less time on a coach is wonderful.

Loony BoB

Depends on my financial situation at the time. Considering I'm saving for the wedding, me going is unlikely at the moment. :(

Iceglow
10-09-2012, 07:38 AM
Tbh whilst either city is fine fiscally speaking for me one of the main reasons I voted Brum aside from Manchester being Manchester is I have family and friends still up in the West Midlands, if we have it in Birmingham I could go up a day early or stay a day longer and visit them which would be nice for me since I don't get to go often.

Loony BoB
10-09-2012, 09:04 AM
Don't you pussy out BoB. Don't you smurfing do it.
I will go if Jiro pays for me to go. Ideallly he'd pay for both Danielle and myself, and ensure that we have money for food etc, too. Ideally, he'd pay for the wedding while he's at it. :D

Bubba

I am definitely up for this. Those dates are good for me.

I voted Manchester because I'm a lazy smurfer but I'd be more than happy to travel to Birmingham.

In fact, if Psy and Iceglow have confirmed then it might be better to have the resulting damage happen away from my hometown.

Manchester is will be easier for Shauna and Locky, though.

Levian

Good thinking by only giving people two options. Threads like this typically end up with people screaming 10 different cities and then nothing happens as the thread dies out.

On that note, we should definitely have the meetup in Oslo, Norway.

It's more a case of me being pedantic, I'm 27 if you ever ask me, if it's something like May I may say I'm almost 28 but I don't normally use bs like fractions or decimals though.

"Light years is a measure of distance, not time!" - Jr. Trainer, Pewter City.

Rantz
10-11-2012, 07:16 PM
By all means, keep explaining these advanced concepts. :greenie:

Loony BoB
10-12-2012, 04:13 PM
Technically, while light-years are a measurement of length, one can also argue that it can be used as a measurement of time in that it takes exactly one year for light to travel the length. So perhaps Rantz is measuring his age by measuring the distance (in light-years) that light has travelled in a vacuum since his birth... which is pretty much exactly how the rest of us measure our age, too. :D

Alternatively, since he didn't include the hyphen, perhaps he is measuring his age in years that he considers to lack in weight. How he weighs a year is a mystery.

I voted for the Flying Mullet option so as not to wreck the results. You should pick whichever destination is better for the people who are 100% committed to going they will be there no word of a lie because as Baloki can attest it makes it better for you.

Iceglow
10-20-2012, 05:00 AM
Well as I see the results, it's like 3 - 2 the rest against me and Paul for Manchester. Admittedly I'm not so shit hot about going all the way to fucking Manchester for this, but I will do if it's what needs to be done. Let me know already!!!!

Shauna
10-20-2012, 11:49 AM
I genuinely will not know whether I can actually go until like a month or so beforehand - my money situation for that time won't be clear until then. :3 I'm being horribly wishy-washy here about my attendance, but there is little I can do. :p

I can't promise this, I mean it's been known that just shaking my hand can get someone pregnant.

I probably won't make it now, had to take an emergency holiday this weekend, so it's unlikely I'll get the weekend off for this.

Serious post is serious!

What the hell were we all smoking when we decided 4 weeks past Christmas, 3 weeks in to the new year was a good time to plan this? I mean seriously were we all high at the time? Also this was post changing things around for me to attend my house mates leaving do (which is likely to cost me a small fortune too). Personally I'm going to be unable to get a train up to Manchester, this now means I can't really do friday, I could get a coach and arrive at 20:45 at the coach station ratty, tired and I'd have to make precarious arrangements for leaving work early, I know I can't book more holiday that weekend due to the short notice, I'd have to rely on a gentleman's agreement with my boss that if it's quiet enough I can leave on paid holiday early. Problem is it's January and I'm a CSP which means it's busy and getting out early doesn't happen if anything he's more likely to want me for overtime. I can get a coach return for Saturday - Sunday, arriving at around 12 noon Sat morning and leaving 3pm Sunday afternoon.

Personally I say looking at the thread as to who might come, who can't come, who will come but might have work first and those like me who could come but we might be too broke to do so... We mulligan this, this gets kept on hold. We look for better times in March or April the usual Easter period meet up for students it provides a half term in the region, for professionals it gives us time to book more holiday in and in all cases save up a bit more cash to do this. I think it genuinely is the best answer to this.

If we postpone:

1) Location remains Manchester, there's numerous reasons I'd prefer Birmingham and I'm sure Paul will agree with me on 99% of these reasons. But frankly I cannot be arsed to have the whole "Oh lets have it here!" argument/discussion/wank fest again.

2) If however 50% or more of the rest of you agree to change location the only other location we consider is Birmingham. I'm not stupid enough to suggest you all come London, it's one of the priciest cities in the country and aside from me you'd all be paying accommodation and travel expenses. A good reason why we often suggested Birmingham in the past however is that travel wise whilst the journey times may be different; the cost is generally pretty equal across the country it also means that pretty much everyone going is going to have to stay in a hotel. This means we book 2 or 3 rooms at the Britania Hotel on New Street (or a premier inn/travellodge who gives a fuckeroo the Britania is directly opposite the trains and wasn't too bad price wise and put up with our shit before though) we split the cost of the rooms and everyone going has effectively paid the same sort of money to be there. I know some of you will think "but hey guys, I live here, I'd put one or two of you up!" it's not really the point, say Baloki puts me up, Bubba puts Tara up, the rest of the people going share hotel rooms well I've spent £14 quid getting to Baloki's and back and maybe a tenner on getting around Manchester, Tara the same, Parker the poor sap has spent around 15 - 20 getting to Manchester and another 30 or so on accommodation. He gets the shitty end of a big stick and feels like a short changed prick when we all turn out to be boring net people. I know some members especially newer ones or those who haven't done meet ups before will disagree with me but trust me and if Paul, Baloki, Psi or any of the other "Meet up veterans" wants to chip in here this does work well.

3) Dates agreed by all parties but I'm thinking no later than Easter though we avoid Easter itself (if needs be we'll book it for after Easter but ideally we get it done before hand) since train/road disruption and also the fact that some people such as Tara work retail getting a bank holiday off in Retail can be tough especially one during a half term. Downside of half-term/easter holidays is 1) any attractions will be crawling with kids out of school for holiday. 2) travel disruption is rife, though I have only experience of going to the Birmingham meet ups at this time, I will say anything on the Easter Sunday in Birmingham is closed except a couple of pubs and Mac Donalds meaning we've always had plenty of time to waste which can be a good thing or it can be a bad thing, certainly booking travel for past 3pm is silly because generally there's not many people left past then anyhow. I remember last Birmingham Meet Up left myself and TUH drinking in a pub he had a flight back to Germany at 6pm with nothing open at all and everyone else on "non changeable journey" tickets I was the only one who could hang with him til that time and then get a train home, then again being the host person that time I felt it prudent to make sure my return ticket allowed me to get any time train so I could definitely ensure people got off safe.

4) Failing an agreeable date I say fuck you all, we wait until the weekend closest to June 19th and you all come London, we get tanked and celebrate me growing old disgracefully in style. (I'm joking)

5) For that weekend for those who booked it off and have availability to travel to London (which will likely be Baloki and Paul) I say come down and we go out for a drink I live near a couple of cheap hotels if you don't fancy a couch or if there is a new house mate in my house replacing the Aussie (really doubt it since the girl leaves on the 14th)

If you agree with me on the first question there: Postpone yes/no lets hear it in true mafia style:

Vote: ##Yes

Well that depends on the others but Since the meetup was set for now, I figured a postponement to March/April worked well Either way, we can probably arrange some kind of meet up when you get here.

Well I'm the only smurfer who lives in Manchester so obviously I'm up for any weekend based in my city but... if there is a bigger get together based down South in the Summer then I'd be more than happy to attend. I have family down there who can happily put me up.

I'm happy to be flexible. I am still available if we do it this month or I can go when it is postponed. At this rate though I think there's only Baloki, Bubba and me in January now so there might not be any point :p I know Baloki has put a lot of work into organising this so I'd like to see what he has to say.

I agree I think Baloki ought to put some input in to this too, I just feel it might have run away on us this time, we did pick a relatively bad time of year fiscally speaking for most people.

Sorry about taking ages to respond, not been near a proper computer in a little while.

If no-one can make it and it'd be better another time then we're probably best cancelling this one and arranging another closer to the time.

I still think it's a good idea to put a ball park of when we're looking to do it so people know to save holiday allowance/people can get a general feel for when holiday will be available in their workplace round then, we can then pool dates and come out with something we all agree on? Would be happy to help organize Loki so just drop me a text/call if you can't get to your pc properly.

Definitely not for me this month, ended up that I'm going to London next month at about the cost of a week abroad :p

However on the back of that I'd probably be more comfortable with the whole "randomly going places to meet internet friends" thing and could be well up for, say, July :)

I've got two cousins living down in London at the minute so I'll give you a holler next time I'm down to visit :)

I might not invite them along though as they are both female and in their twenties... I fear it could be dangerous introducing them to you.
