Based on its original NA release for the SNES, Final Fantasy VI has just turned 18!

Man, that's been a long time! I was 11 at the time. Care to share some of your fondest memories with this game, if you have any?

After FF2, I remember being blown away by FF3 by its graphics and especially its music.

Got it for Christmas just a couple of months later. 18 years ago? Damn, I'm getting old. Anyway, yeah, this game brings back fond memories. I would proceed to play through it multiple times for a few years after it was released. Especially any summer while I was in Jr. High.

I actually didn't play through this game until I was in college...I loaded it up and while it was simplistic, it was a LOT of fun.

Especially when the midpoint of the game happens...never seen something that shocking in a game in a long time.

Just, why is Terra's hair green?...That makes no sense!

Just, why is Terra's hair green?...That makes no sense!

I'm pretty sure it was to avoid confusion between her and Celes.

Wow. I was 5 when this game came out. Didn't get to play it until I got my hands on the PSX port in high school. Happy birthday, FF6!

first got the chance to play the original snes version I bought while in vegas (visiting my sister and her family) A used game shop had a copy, another had (the employee who kept them after the store wanted to throw them away) the box and inserts just sitting at home, bought both. As a side note, beating this original game on the original hardware is on the "game informer 150 things every gamer should do" list. Excellent game for its time, graphics (these days) notwithstanding excellent game today, I didn't (no lie....don't know who did) cry during the opera scene but I did enjoy the moment.

18 already? Wow, I was... 11? Though I didn't play it until 95. I still remember getting frustrated with ATB combat and throwing a fit, thinking something along the lines of "how can anyone like this crap?". It's now of my favorite games of all time. :D

Happy 18th birthday FFVI!

Here in the UK, you can now legally get drunk on tequila and jäger bombs before buying a sweaty kebab and throwing up in someone's front garden.

I remember the first time ff 6 or III when it came out and I was totally blown away. I love the graphics, music, story, and the characters. Kefka's laugh still gives the creeps whenever he started to laugh shakes my head. He was pure evil. I cannot believe this game is 18 years old. I am getting old that I even remember when I first got the game.

6 years old when it came out. I played it in 1995 or so when I was about 7; had rented it from Blockbuster (got started on RPGs early, though at that time I think I'd only finished Breath of Fire which took me a year) and never owned an English copy until 2005, when I bought FF Anthology. I finally got to beat it about 3 days after getting Anthology. Before that I had played it on an emulator, and got real far in but never cared to finish it for some reason.

Fighting in the Coliseum was the most fun part for me. I'm a sucker for coliseums/tournaments in RPGs. I spent so many hours on FFVI's coliseum and the one from Star Ocean 2. :jess:

If the passage of time is getting to you, think about this:

Remember the heyday of late SNES/PSX Final Fantasy and how popular it all was?

SE released FFs XI-XIV in approximately the same amount of time it took Sqaure to release FFs I-X.

That heyday was... a long time ago.

Uh, that doesn't help, does it?

7 When it came out, played it around 8.

God, this game, FF IV, and Super Mario World are my earliest memories. :p

I was 5 when the game came out, but alas my first FFVI experience was when it was released for the PSX and I played it in around 2003. So coming up to our tenth anniversary :D
