View Full Version : Question The Staff

Loony BoB
10-18-2012, 01:48 PM
In this thread, question staffers. You can leave your questions open to anyone/everyone on staff or direct them to a particular staffer, do it however you like. While this is part of a task for the poster giveaway, anyone is welcome to join in with the questioning. :) Questions can be from personal questions to requests for opinions. You can even test our knowledge with a trivia question if you like! Just make sure they stay within the rules set out for the rest of the forums. Oh, and I'm not going to say that the staff will definitely reply with honest answers...

Boobs: We are looking to increase our exclusive content. As for people who leave, if they have participated in every area of the community and still wish to leave, there is little we can do as they are probably not going to fit into our target audience. However, the more our profile increases with each person, the better off we are. Exclusive content and giveaways such as the poster one will only assist us in this area.

Shauna: The laydeez! Oh, right. Uhm. I just like EoFF, so it's kind of nice to be able to do whatever I can to help keep it running. Forums staffing is seemingly something that I enjoy doing as a hobbie in itself, so it's an advantage in itself to be on staff because of that.

With Final Fantasy being such an older series, as well as shoddy games having been released in recent years what does staff plan to do to not only keep the forum alive, but bring in new members?

We have some other things in the works that I can't get into yet because they aren't in a finalized stage. It'd also ruin the surprise, but the plan is to get more exclusive content. We're in a better working relationship with SE than ever before and we plan on using this.

Mulley: Because you haven't been around to hold. :(

Boobs: Give away posters.

And how will you deal with the inevitable consequence when most of not all of the returning members coming back JUST for posters leave?

Do you have any other ideas than that?

Feel free to yell at us later if we don't retain a single member from this event, but we've worked very hard at making the event incorporate becoming a true member, we've done mock runs of the poster handouts between those who participate in the tasks and those who don't the difference is very noticeable - hopefully and that's how we get you ;)

We do. You'll see.

Have you considered holding more members to get them to stay?
After suffering from various sexual harrassment lawsuits, we no longer have the funds for holding members en masse.

Tig: Oh man, now that takes me back. Uhm. I'll pass from now on, but snail mail is still appreciated.

Hmm I guess the question of whether there will be other things to get people involved with the site is already answered (and it does work, I was posting a little bit here and there but feel a lot more involved now)

On a similar note then, do you think it'd be a good idea to carry on some sort of system for focusing on a different FF each day? Maybe having an "Eyes on Final Fantasy n" theme each day, the respective forum highlighted at the top, earn gil for posting there on the day etc?

Bonus question since that's kind of a suggestion disguised as a question.
Has moderating ever driven any of you guys to drink?

With Final Fantasy being such an older series, as well as shoddy games having been released in recent years what does staff plan to do to not only keep the forum alive, but bring in new members?

We'll make our own FF game. With blackjack and hookers. Actually, forget the FF game and the blackjack!

What is your favourite part of being a moderator on a forum of this size? Aside from all the laydeez that flock to you, of course. :P

Wait, there are supposed to be ladies included with this gig? Why am I so unloved?

The serious answer is banning people and having the power to edit anyone's posts at any time for any reason with no repercussions because staff are really just trolls with power.

Have you considered holding more members to get them to stay?

I dislike people as a rule, but I like to snuggle, so I'm conflicted on this one. But I will snuggle you if it means you don't abandon us again.

Would you like some of my hair?

Only if "my hair" is the newest and greatest street drug all the kids are raving about. If it's just some of your hair from either your head or body then the answer is "nogetthehellawayfrommeyoucreep!"

Has moderating ever driven any of you guys to drink?

No, but I have moderated while drinking and slightly buzzed.

That is a serious answer by the way.

Thank BoB, he came up with the most of the parameters.

Neat idea. I'd say bring it up in Feedback where it can get the attention it deserves whereas in this thread it'll just get glossed over! :)

If you could add one feature to the forum, what would it be?
An internet growth feature that boosts EoFF's profile throughout the internet, instantly.

If we're being serious, though, I'd love for there to be a high quality FanArt section, one that would encourage artists and art fans alike to flock to EoFF. I'm sure I could probably come up with other ideas that might be better, but this is one we've had on a few occasions but it's never really worked out for whatever reason.

Couldn't we go a bit broader than that and just say Jiro?

Oh shit, I asked a question.

Loony BoB
10-18-2012, 05:17 PM
Cloudane: It's an interesting idea, the game-per-day thing at EoFF. I think it only really works when there is a real incentive, though, so perhaps we should save it for events such as this one to avoid people getting burned out. As for the 'driven to drink by EoFF' bit, not me! Although I have on are occasions been very annoyed because of stuff in EoFF staff, but that was a long time ago now.

Mulley: I'd like the forums to be more active than they are now. I'd like for us to have much more exclusive content on the frontsite. Ideally, I'd like us to be the number one gaming site on the internet. As for where I think they'll actually be, I believe two out of three of these things are genuinely possible.

Axem Titanium: First and foremost is that we are now putting out articles as well as news. No longer are we simply re-reporting what others have said. We have articles on things from airships to character theme music at the moment, and I hope to have more of these kind of page put out as the days go on. Beyond that, if we come up with some high quality exclusive content then it will need to be a surprise, so I can't say much!

Mulley (again): Your car keys may or may not be in the last place you look for them.

Cloudane (again): Too much wood. Save our forest. Kill the woodchucks.

Locky: If the funders allowed for such things, then it's a possibility.

Fynn: When I'm not at work or on EoFF (or both), I tend to be hanging out with Danielle, watching TV or gaming. Lately I've been playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which is great. I've also been rewatching the Bourne movies with Danielle, and arguing over various unimportant things not worth debating with Danielle when it comes to our wedding. :p

Edge7: I first saw Final Fantasy VII when a friend of my neighbour brought it over to my neighbour's place but we didn't play very far into it. I think he was in Kalm and we just looked at the game for a little while and then moved on to some multiplayer games (as was the norm when there are 3+ people, 3+ controllers, etc). It wasn't until about a year or two later that I tried FFVII myself, I think I rented it - I rented a lot of games back then. I loved it and never really looked back from there.

Peeg: Probably, and I've not really collected any hair for a long time now. Ask me when you're about to visit (so I can increase our flat's security in advance). :D As for how many threads, I'm not sure and can't be arsed checking just now. Probably a few, I guess? Most long term members have one or two threads in the WML (Warned Members List subforum of our staff forum).

Kent: I don't know if anyone on our staff can fix them, as I'm not sure if we have access to the source code. I'm pretty useless when it comes to knowing whether or not this is one of those games that anyone can edit or not...

Mulley (again): These are not bugs, they are features.

rydrum: No idea! I don't think I'll be going to any this year as it's getting late in the year already and all my spare cash is being put aside for the wedding.

Cloudane (again): Not sure if that's a question as I can't see that image while at work. xD

Where would you like the forums to be in a year?

I'd love us to be a true source for Square Enix news. And well. I'm working on it, but don't get your hopes up for us to be an IGN within a year.

Where do you think the forums will actually be in a year?

I think we'll by this time in 2013 we'll have more newbies sticking around than this time in 2012. We're working really hard on making EoFF have content beyond our community (which is awesome. Love you guys.) to attract new members. And we are working to make it easier for the community to make a difference here! Proto's DeviantArt is a great example. If anyone sees FF news, write up an article, and link it in Please Promote (http://home.eyesonff.com/site-contributions/144835-please-promote.html). We'll also be promoting the Site Contributions forum as much as possible.

We are looking to increase our exclusive content.

What kind of stuff are you referring to here?

No specifics, besides articles, we are looking to have a few interesting things you won't get to read anywhere else. We'll keep it at that.

If the site were to get more funding from places, would it ever be possible for the site to hold Final Fantasy events in places?

What do you mean by this exactly? Meetups can be hosted by any member here, without funding! Choose a location, set a date, and see if any EoFFer will meet you there. If you want the thread stickied, I'm sure a staffer will do it for you if you just PM one, or link to the thread in Private Feedback.

How do you guys spend your free time? I mean, aside from FF ^^ Unless you don't have a life besides FF, though...

On weekends I tend to party! I can get a little out of control :kakapo: Video games, obviously. Visiting friends. And a few hobbies like coding. I also pick a long show that I haven't seen and watch all of it over the course of a few months, lately I've been Marathon-ing through Star Trek: Next Generation with my roommates.

Each staff member here: how did you get into Final Fantasy?

One of my older brother's friends loaned my FFIX. I didn't finish it, I think I got to Lindblum, before he took it back, but I went and purchased the game. Rest is history.

Are you guys going to organize another EoFF-convention again this year?

A convention? Where a bunch of members at eoff congregate somewhere and hang out in person? Wow I sure hope you do something like that again. That sounds really awesome.

Answering both at once. Again, we do meetups, and by we, I mean anyone can organize it. we have a UK one being set up right now (http://home.eyesonff.com/general-chat/145614-10-000-miles-mills-part-vi-return-walrus-19th-20th-jan.html). Well it wouldn't be exclusive if everyone under the sun knew about it.

Have you seen my car keys?

I saw them under the couch cushion. I often hide them there.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
Peanut.

If the site were to get more funding from places, would it ever be possible for the site to hold Final Fantasy events in places?

Yes but that most likely will never happen. We are not the owners and they don't want to foot the bill for such things so it falls to us poor staffers to arrange anything.

Each staff member here: how did you get into Final Fantasy?

I watched my bro play VII but when I bought Brave Fencer musashi, there was a demo for VIII. It was awesome. Then I played VIII and hated it.... BUT I DIDN'T GIVE UP! I then went on to rent IX and fell in love.

Pitye: Yes, definitely. EoFF is a pretty notable part of my life, to be honest. Not in that I spend all day on it (although sometimes I have), but more so that I have a large number of people from EoFF that I call friends and have met many of them. My fiancée, Danielle, is registered here as smittenkitten. She registered in 2005, we met in 2006 and the rest is history.

Hsubu: I have no idea. o_o Wasn't me, I guess! Probably Psy. He finds lots of things.

Formalhaut: Tomorrow. Failing that, all I can say is that it'll probably be a Tuesday. As for SE, it means we're in contact with their North American (in particular) and European staff, so we get things like these posters to give away to you guys. Question 2: Is there an RPG out there that you wish was a Final Fantasy game? For example, some people have said that they thought Lost Odyssey for the 360 was everything they wished Final Fantasy 13 could have been.

Yes, your example is perfect. Lost Odyssey would have been wonderful if it had the Active Time Battle system rather than its generic turn based system. It had a great story and it is generally the type of story that I would expect from a Final Fantasy game.

Would EoFF host a panel of any kind at a convention in the future?

This hasn't been discussed previous to your post...

Previous to your post. ;)

Have you ever had any EoFFers treat you any worse after going from a regular member to a staff member?

Having just joined Staff recently, no not really. I think everyone's treated me about the same! Except maybe Psy. His advances might have doubled.

also why are the cid's knights like shinra
Because shinra was such a non-profit, hardworking, nice organization! Obviously!

1. How is it possible that all of you suck so very much? Does Shlup teach classes?

2. Do you think the frontsite is considered a priority by the forums staff? What, if anything, do you think could be improved?

3. Eliminating forums announcements, by my count 5 staffers have made news or original content updates to the fronstsite in the last 5 pages of articles (roughly one month), only 2 of them more than twice (Jiro and Psychotic, to give appropriate kudos). Do you consider this a problem?

Unless "teach classes" is code for "working the street corner" I'm not sure I understand the question.

2. Do you think the frontsite is considered a priority by the forums staff? What, if anything, do you think could be improved?

Based on the amount of discussions we seem to have about it it absolutely is. As for what can be improved, more original content is a big one. I know Boko is putting in huge effort to get some stuff that will blow the forums socks right off, but I'm not sure we're at the stage where we're ready to talk about that yet. I'd also like to find the time to get some articles done up, but I've had to put it on hold until my brain stops trying to make me self destruct.

I think we've seen a good deal of improvement in the amount of front site content that goes up, but in the end, staff are volunteers and sometimes the real world gets in the way. That said, that's where having editors who can clean up the formatting and whatnot in forum posts and promote things to the front site when forum members beat us to the punch is a great thing. You guys get to contribute to making this site awesome, and when we're swamped with crap in the real world it makes it a bit easier to get things done. So yeah, it'd be nice to have the staff be on the ball all of the time, and I think they do their best, but having systems in place that let us benefit from your hard work is a pretty integral part to having steady, timely content when we may miss something or not have the time to do a full write up. :D

A million questions in here. Guess I'll start from the top and work my way down, bit by bit.

With Final Fantasy being such an older series, as well as shoddy games having been released in recent years what does staff plan to do to not only keep the forum alive, but bring in new members?

Everyone has a different idea on this. It actually comes up a lot. Personally I wouldn't mind moving to more of a "General Gaming" forum but then we'd lose some of the flavor, wouldn't we? It's a difficult question, which is why we discuss it a lot.

What is your favourite part of being a moderator on a forum of this size? Aside from all the laydeez that flock to you, of course. :P

I enjoy giving back to a community I like and really feel a part of! Also I get to hang out in the top secret staff forum where we discuss SERIOUS BUSINESS :shifty:

Have you considered holding more members to get them to stay?

Yep, I'm putting them into my Bag of Holding.

Would you like some of my hair?

I'll pass.

If you could add one feature to the forum, what would it be?

I'd hook us up to Wordpress because I think that's a much better blogging platform than whatever we've got going here. Unfortunately that's easier said than done!

Regarding your first question: We've sort of maybe got something in the works for this for a special event. Bringing up the gil is a good idea. We actually talk about this sort of thing more than people probably think we do.

Regarding your second question: No but sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the bots when they go crazy. Also that April Fools thing that foa masterminded- that happened right after I was CK'd and kind of drove me nuts. xD

What do you think is the single worst thing about EoFF currently?

I don't like that there seems to be a divide between "Final Fantasy fan EoFF"/lower forum-goers and "Community fan EoFF"/general forum-goers and that sometimes we hardly see each other. I think it would be neat if there was more integration, but I don't know if that will ever happen, just because of the nature of this forum and how it's evolved.

Where would you like the forums to be in a year?
Where do you think the forums will actually be in a year?

I'd like us to be busier and more of a visible hub for Final Fantasy. Realistically I think we'll be about the same as we are right now.

Have you seen my car keys?

I'm looking, bro. :(

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Okay, gonna put the rest in another post so this doesn't get too obscenely long.

If the site were to get more funding from places, would it ever be possible for the site to hold Final Fantasy events in places?

We'd do all sorts of fun thing with unlimited money :jess:

How do you guys spend your free time? I mean, aside from FF ^^ Unless you don't have a life besides FF, though...

I play lots and lots and lots and lots of games. I probably average 50-60 hours a week, whilst holding down a job and trying to keep this place under control. xD

Each staff member here: how did you get into Final Fantasy?

My brother showed me Final Fantasy 6 and I liked it. My first SE game was actually Super Mario RPG, though, which I love and will love forever.

When will Rantz fix the bugs in Triple Triad???

I'm not sure!

When will the bugs in Rantz be fixed???

We're even less sure of this!

Are you guys going to organize another EoFF-convention again this year?

This is really an individual/small group thing that people tend to sort out on their own. :)

Do you ever think of EoFF and its people when doing completely non-EoFF-related things?

On occasion, yes

So which one of you discovered /r/IAmA?

>implying I go to Reddit

To all the staffers here, when are you plans of world domination finally coming to fruition?

;)

On a more serious note, I remember BoB saying that EoFF has a better working relationship with SE. What exactly does that mean? Do you go on dinner dates together.. maybe watch a movie?

First question: We have a subforum in the staff forum specifically devoted to that. Patience, grasshopper!

Second question: We have a small amount of contact with them. That's more of an admin thing than a CK thing, though, so talk to BoB and them about that!

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, for sure. Nothing else will ever come close.

Civ IV is high up there as well.

4. Where is the goddamn pie? I was promised pie.

1. This is a staff secret.

2. Considering how much we talk about it, yes, but the problem is getting people enthusiastic enough to work on it. For improvements I think we really need to hammer out what we want from the frontsite and how to accomplish it because it seems like everyone has a different idea. Also certain staffers have certain job descriptions; certain people are supposed to be more focused on the frontsite than others, if that makes sense.

3. It actually sounds about right considering how many editors we have (and the fact that my editor title is really just there to get me access to the social media stuff. :p ) I would love it if more people were involved, but realistically we tend to delegate certain tasks to certain people.

4. It's in the fridge DUH

Formalhaut: The most common method of contact with Square-Enix is email for anything official, although we can chat with one of the North American reps, too. Personally, I have also contacted them through Twitter.

Nightsintodreams: Outside of Final Fantasy VII, Uncharted 2 is probably my favourite game.

Denny: I hope they don't go back to making SNES games because I don't have one. :p

Lone Wolf: Pretty sure the Chrono Trigger/Cross forum was dead when we closed it down. Very dead. As for non-FF games being FF games, I don't think it makes any difference - a name is just a name. I suppose it would mean they have chocobos etc, but that's not a big deal for me. Lost Odyssey was a very good game but I personally am happy for there to be more than just one company churning out high quality JRPG's.

pr00t: What do you mean by a panel? >_*

Evastio: I don't think so. It was a long time back... at the time I was promoted nobody really showed any major change of opinion that I can remember.

Denny (again): So we can get in the way.

Unne: Are you Raistlin in disguise. >=[

Cloudane: No, because I made it clear that I can answer them however I like. :D Perhaps every answer has been a lie. Every answer... :shifty:

Raist: Back in the early days of EoFF, a member named Wes (I forget his username, he was kind of unimportant really) went around showing off how much he seriously sucked. He was an expert at sucking. He showed the rest of staff how to suck. Since then, the methods of sucking have been passed on through the generations of staff. Sadly, we no longer have the perfect sucker amongst our staff since Wes stepped down, so our sucking isn't anything close to how much he sucked. But we try. As for your other questions - I think the frontsite is far more important to the non-frontsite staff than ever before, and more forums staff take an active interest in it than anytime I can remember in the past ten or so years I've been on staff. As for the news, it sounds like the news is slow at the moment going by what you said, but the editors are not there to merely generate news but also to promote news that has been found within other posts at EoFF. So they're still doing their job, last I checked. Finally, your mum ate the pie.

rubah: Psychotic, absolutely without doubt. Such a massive jerky jerk jerkface.

opn184: I manage the IT hardware at AEGON. I work for Computacenter who is contracted by them. I'm also heavily involved in other various things that relate to hardware, such as projects, mass-moves, reporting, billing, etc. It's an okay job, although it's more one I got put into than one that my skils are suited to (which is project management, luckily I still get to do a fair bit of this). And yeah, I go through each post to keep track of the tasks. :)

Bunny: Probably the owners, although I'm not sure they're into that sort of thing.

Mirage: I honestly don't know if you've been that close, to be honest... but then you've been around for a long time, so perhaps there's a thread from way back that I'm forgetting or something.

table leg: I don't know (x3).

Miriel: Only the funny ones that weren't all that serious. Oh, and picking who to Knight. That was always fun drama for me. :D As for 50 pages, I don't think we've gotten remotely close to that for anyone in a long time. :( Although I don't think we could reveal specifics on it anyway... Finally, smitten/smitten/smitten, depending on what kind of mood she's in. xD

Laddy: Ack, how to break this to you lightly...

What video game (non-Square-Enix) is your favorite?

Come on, there has to be one! Or three...

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is easily my favorite non-RPG Video Game of all time.
I also love Suikoden and Breath of Fire, as well as Monolith Soft's Xeno series.

When will gaming companies realize that two-dimensional games were the peak of quality and go back to making games for the SNES? Mine's been sitting here without any new games for 16 years :(

Well they do make SNES quality games but they have to release them as Digital Downloads because the SNES has become too awesome to be able to carry any more games than the ones released in their era. I mean seriously, Squenix tried to put Final Fantasy Dimensions on the SNES and the entire staff was shifted into a higher dimension to speak with gods and demons and kick their ass at Street Fighter II Turbo.

Question 1: Why exactly was the Chrono Trigger part of the forum closed? I could be wrong, but it seemed like there was enough activity there to not relegate it to the general square enix section.

I still bug staff about this occasionally, especially since it was actually getting a ton of activity at the time it was killed. I still hope to make a Chrono forum again. Maybe if that rumor of Squenix doing Chrono 3 pans out...

Question 2: Is there an RPG out there that you wish was a Final Fantasy game? For example, some people have said that they thought Lost Odyssey for the 360 was everything they wished Final Fantasy 13 could have been.

The three that come to mind are Xenogears, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Vagrant Story, I wish all three had been a numbered entry, if it had better writing and a more involving battle system, I could be talked into DQVIII as well. For non Square-Enix, I would say Xenoblade Chronicles really deserved to be the successor to FFXII instead of XIII.

Would EoFF host a panel of any kind at a convention in the future?

Technically, I could probably set one up for the convention I usually attend but it's pretty low key so I doubt we would get much of an impact, but I think you've got Gobo's little Chocobo running on it's wheel in his brain...

Yet another question. Do you regret the idea of being asked questions yet?

I just started actually answering them, so no I guess.

You seriously don't want me to answer this question.

We're working on it and I feel we've made pretty great strides considering what it was like when I first became a CK, but as with all processes, it can definetly be better and we've got some really talented people working on some cool ideas.

Pulling that Mikztsu smiley, eh?

Seeing that I'm not an expert on panel hosting, I found a post on some other forum that explains how to make a great panel, so... make the best of it?

First off, the original post says to credit Katrina Lynn, so credit goes where it's due.

Source (http://forums.animecons.com/showtopic.php?tid/1551/)

1. Determine your audience. Now that you've chosen what you want to talk about, you need to figure out who might be interested in that subject. Will it be just about everyone at the con? An older crowd? A scientific crowd? Very loud fangirls? Even though this is the first step, often you can't judge exactly who will come to your panel. It may end up scheduled at a bad time (i.e. opposite the masquerade or early on Sunday morning), or the fans of that particular show are less concentrated where you're going than where you came from. Still, this is an important step and will help you decide what to do for step 2.

2. Choose a format. There are five basic formats for panels, but there are many variations on each format.
1.) The Presentation: the Presentation format is best used to teach people about something they probably don't know a lot about. It works quite well for visual media (i.e. series specific panels) or historical and scientific topics. Often presentations are aided by PowerPoint, which can add a layer of visual interest. A good non-PowerPoint presentation might be something where you talk about a scientific topic and have a panel of experts.
2.) Demo or Workshop: this can be a variation on the Presentation format, but it usually includes some hands on portion. This is a format used to teach people how to DO something. It's best used to teach sewing panels, makeup panels, or crafts of some sort. You can also do a workshop on kimono dressing, music, or another hands-on activity.
3.) Roundtable Discussion: this is probably the most common panel format at science fiction conventions. A Roundtable makes everyone a panelist. The people running the panel usually prepare in advance some topics to get the discussion going and moderate the discussion by calling on people or putting in their two cents, but everyone talks together about the topic. This is a good format for "FIAWOL" panels, or "Fandom is a way of life" panels, discussions on topics ranging from how to run a con masquerade to getting weird stares in public. These can be very fun late-night panels, and the panelist is responsible for getting the audience to open up.
4.) Q&A: the Q&A format is usually reserved for guests of honor, but sometimes professionals in a field will run them as well. This is a good format for professional writers or costumers to just answer people's questions. Another common panel done in this style is the Masquerade Show & Tell on Sunday of many cons.
5.) Games: a format that is becoming increasingly popular is the game panel. These are not huge game shows like the staff of a convention might run but maybe a trivia game on a specific series or a children's game adapted to the convention format. This is good for series specific panels where everyone has already seen the series (i.e. Death Note) or used as a portion of a panel to break the ice (i.e. a "True or False" game to open a drawing panel).

3. Create a presentation. Now that you've figured out what format you're going to use, you need to figure out what exactly you want to say. I should hope that you're passionate about your topic enough to do a little research because the best panels are ones that aren't done on the fly (although sometimes it works out that way). If you're making a PowerPoint, try to balance your text with visuals. In fact, no text on the screen (or very little) and just a note sheet for you is the best way to go. Sometimes I've tried too hard to make a presentation too informative. Remember that you're presenting to people who are at a convention. They're probably a little tired and hyper, and very likely they don't have an attention span more than a few minutes. If you want to teach about how to use patterns, for example, don't pick the British military uniform. Opt for a simple skirt so that you don't do the same thing over and over. Prepare a list of things you want to talk about if you don't have a PowerPoint.

4. Practice your presentation. Talk to your mirror. Are you boring yourself? Tell a friend about the presentation (especially someone who doesn't know the topic). Does he/she seem interested? Get your pronunciation as right as possible. Yes, we all fumble over words with more than three syllables sometimes, but if you repeatedly butcher words important to your topic, you're teaching your audience wrong. This is especially important for panels about Japanese culture. It's a "wah-kee-zah-shee" not a "wacky-zachi".

5. Prepare a contingency plan. Things go wrong. The projector they promised you isn't there. They have the wrong cable for your laptop. You got moved to a tiny room at the last minute. Anything can happen. You can't prepare for everything, but try to make it so that some things work in your favor. We now take a projector with us when we run panels, just in case. We ask ahead of time if there is Internet when we want to present videos from YouTube. We bring extra presentations in case ours just won't work at all (and this has happened!). Prepare what you will do if no one shows up to your panel. Will you try to lure people in with candy (it works!)? Will you cancel it? Always go to your panel room 15 minutes early, especially if you have A/V you need to set up. If no one is still presenting, then you can start setting up and be ready when your panel is supposed to begin. Be prepared to ask the panelist before you to leave when they're going over time.

A few other important things to remember:

Have some respect for your topic. Don't keep saying how stupid it is or mocking the characters. A little bit of teasing on popular shows is fine, but your audience is there to learn and/or talk about something they LIKE. Insulting it is not a good way to keep an audience. If you don't like it, please don't try to run a panel on it.
Don't make it about you. So what if they didn't have the cable you wanted for your laptop (if you have a Mac, by the way, bring your own VGA adaptor because NO ONE has all six or seven of the adaptors needed to run any Mac)? Who cares about your boyfriend or how many times you've met Vic Mignogna? Unless you did something really cool (often something that makes you guest of honor worthy), you probably shouldn't talk about YOU.
Talk loudly or use a microphone. Unless you're in a very small circle talking during your panel, not everyone can hear you.
Don't just have a "shout out your favorites" panel. Sometimes it's fun to have a panel where you all say what your favorite ____ is, but many audiences are bored to tears if all you're doing is saying what your favorite ___ is for an hour.
Stay on topic. Try to keep the panel on topic. Fend off panel pirates who come for the sole purpose of turning the discussion to their favorite subject.
Don't be rude to your audience. If someone leaves, don't yell at them or accuse them of being mean. People leave panels. It could be the topic. It could be your presentation. It could be that they had a ten-minute break before what they really wanted to do and wandered in. That's how cons work.

If you follow all or most of these instructions, you'll be well on your way to having great panels all the time! As always, the most important thing is to PREPARE!

A part from being a staff member on EoFF, what do you guys do? Are you plumber, electrician, IT administration... bus driver...? etc. (just thinking of random things on the top of my head)

Most of my money comes from working the early morning stockroom at Target (4am-12pm.) A small subset of my money comes from being an author and people buying my books. I would like the percentages to switch at some point.

How do you keep track of everyone who has posted for each task? Do you literally go through the thread page by page and read every single post?

Basically yes.

1.) Probably a few months back with Sylvie.

2.) MILF/MILF/I love you guys

Why are you guys so awesome?
I think part of it is natural, part of it comes with experience. We know and love Final Fantasy, and we use that to drive us to make EoFF the best FF site out there. Thanks for the support!

I know I act like an annoying little twat most of the time, but I really do respect and care about all of you on staff. Most of what I say comes from jealousy over the comradery you all share. Are you ever offended by my incessant complaining?
Not at all. We totally understand that you do it to compensate for your shortcomings in other areas and that nobody's pefect. Never think otherwise.

How close have I gotten to being banned?
You're going to be banned in about three hours. God speed, man. :(

Will you help me finish chapter 1 of Awakening?
I don't know what that is.

Can I a staff member if I donate $10?
Buy EoFF, then we'll consider it. Think tens of thousands. :(

Why is there no pony theme? / Why is there no Viera theme?
We were going to merge these two into a single theme capable of being the new default theme, and then turn ourselves into a furry site. But we never got around to it.

What do I need to do to get those made?
Let's go back to that buying of EoFF thing...

Why am I so ADD?

We're more likely to have a chocobo theme.

Why is there no Viera theme?
Because creating styles is not as simple as throwing together a few pictures and a colour palette.

We don't aniticpate this happening, and therefore have no contingency plan. I am sure we can come up with one should it happen, and I am sure they would give us warning as they're pretty decent when it comes to keeping us in the loop with anything they want to do with EoFF, and they are also pretty decent when it comes to listening to us, too. For example, the server change was originally a no-go but then with the help of Samuraid's advice, we convinced them to switch.

You are given a magical sword called Mutsunokami and you ride a noble kangaroo named Skip.
Your quest will take you to the evil lord Big Kev's lair in the badlands.
Your faithful companion Trevor, a talking magpie will journey with you.
You and your princess Evelyn will be wed at dawn and live in an extravagant hut in a mystical forest.

If you had to kill a hobo with a spade in an unfamiliar place how would you execute the killing blow and also in what manner would you dispose of the body?
I'm unfamiliar with being near the edge of the roof of a very tall building, so that will do for the place. I would poke him with the spade. A fairly quick and instant death upon hitting the ground - I feel this is the most humane method I can think of that utilises a spade. The hobo would be drunk off his face and wouldn't realise what's going on, so the fear wouldn't register until it would be too late.

You are now the chosen one, you will save the world, slay the dragon, and marry the princess. Yes that goes for the women too. You are given a magical sword called ? and you ride a noble ? named ?
Your quest will take you to ? the evil lord ? layer in the ?

My sword would be named Debit Card, and I would ride a noble Bus called The Number 34. My quest will take me to The Local Sainsburys, where I would face up to the Evil Lord Overpriced Pringles' That Are Not On Special in his lair at The Crisps and Nuts Aisle. Danielle and I will be wed at Abden House and we will live in Our Flat in Edinburgh.

Why do you wake up in the morning?

Do you feel prepared for death?

Have you come to terms with the great gift and burden that is your own self-awareness?

Do people grow from spores?
I wouldn't be surprised if there are some spores which cause people to grow or something, but biology is not my strong subject.

Why do you wake up in the morning?
To live.

Do you feel prepared for death?
No, I haven't written a will, which is about the only thing I can do to prepare for death.

Have you come to terms with the great gift and burden that is your own self-awareness?
Yeah, sure.

Do the above questions make you regret your self-awareness?
Nah.

why hasn't the profanity rainbow been implemented yet?
Looks like GB fielded this one.

Can you censor members? ;)
Pretty easily.

There is no public list, although they were all detailed in the chatroom and all have been notified via PM. We're waiting on finding out if any do not claim their poster at the moment, something which Shlup is sorting out.

Does your dentist tell you that you floss enough?
I don't remember, it's been a while. He's Irish and he's pretty cool, though. His assistant is a New Zealander.

What is your favorite holiday and what is the number one thing you want for christmas this year ?(assuming you celebrate)

Loony BoB

My favourite holiday is tied between three different places: California, Sweden and Menorca. They were all very different holidays, though. One was focused on people one on being active and one on relaxing. :)

The number one thing I want for Christmas is billions upon billions of pounds. ;)
