What rare coins does everyone have? I'm sure each of us has at least one or two rare/special coins that we've kept over the years.

I have a mint collection of the coins produced the year I was born that good friends of my parents gave me when I was born. When I worked as a cashier in high school I came across several bicentennial coins and hung onto those, including quarters and half dollars.

My brother just obtained a legit actual Roman coin and ran around the house screaming with joy. I guess it's good he has a hobby.

I used to travel a lot. When I did, I'd find some really awesome rare coins! I liked them, because they all had some strange writing on them...

But then some bird-faced lady found out I had them and threw a fucking bitch fit and took them from me. She gave me a lame ass hammer instead.

I don't have any mint condition coins per se, but one of my most treasured possessions is a box of old coins that belonged to my grandfather. I haven't look through them all, but every now and again I like to root through them to see what I can find. For ages, I thought the oldest coin in there was an 1870s Indian Rupee, but last time I found an 1856 US half dollar. There's also a bunch of Canadian coins, pre-Euro European currencies, and a commemorative coin from Elizabeth II's Silver and Golden Jubilees.

I also keep hold of coins that I come across that I like. One I received a few years ago was a £2 coin from the 1989 celebrating the 300th anniversary of the Bill of Rights. Given that £2 coins in those days were only really for commemorative occasions, I thought it was such a shame to receive the coin as change because it meant somebody had spent it, rather than kept hold of it. Mind you, as it ended up with me, I was quite glad that it got spent ;)

I also have a key ring which is a replica Roman coin from Bath which looks surprisingly realistic. I quite like looking at old coins in antique shops. A compulsive eBay purchase I stopped myself short of buying was a 100 million mark note from 1923. I think I'll buy one of the ridiculous notes from Weimar Germany at some point.

I have a 1986 quarter in my wallet.

Silver dollar and we're even.

Sure, I guess a nickle for your quarter and silver dollar is a fair trade.

Nah all my coins of any sort of rarity were nicked and either spent or sold.

My dad gave me one dollar bill
'Cause I'm his smartest son,
And I swapped it for two shiny quarters
'Cause two is more than one!

And then I took the quarters
And traded them to Lou
For three dimes -- I guess he don't know
That three is more than two!

Just then, along came old blind Bates
And just 'cause he can't see
He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,
And four is more than three!

And I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs
Down at the seed-feed store,
And the fool gave me five pennies for them,
And five is more than four!

And then I went and showed my dad,
And he got red in the cheeks
And closed his eyes and shook his head--
Too proud of me to speak!

My coworker and I started a contest to see who has the oldest quarter. My best was a 1968 to his 1966. I just bought a soda and received a 1965 quarter in the change. I'm now in the lead!
