View Full Version : The annoyingness that is crisps

I love crisps. I really do, they taste nice (Especially meat flavoured crisps) and they fill the snack spot in your eating regime very well.

There's just one small thing. Teeth. After eating crisps, I swear crisps are like glue and stick to the backs of your molars and are incredibly annoying to get rid of. It can't just be me, I resort to rinsing my mouth after eating crisps just to get the "leftovers" out of my mouth.

Does anyone else get this same problem?

Ah the technical problems with which we are faced in the 21st century.

That's what fingernails are for. :)

Exactly, that's why we evolved them! Did you know that in 1AD (After Deliciousness) mankind still hadn't grown them yet? It took a further 25 years and was celebrated with the invention of pre-salted crisps.

I generally hate anything salty. Crisps are salty, hence the hatred. Oh, did I mention that I loathe salt? I just hate salt. I never put salt on my food, either. Just yuck.

No chips are what they call cookies in England. Crisps are what we call biscuits in the US. They also don't call them french fries like we do, they call them "scot fries," because they're really bitter about France in WWII (I?) but they're cool with Scottish people, and like, everyone eats them with relish instead of ketchup. England is WEIRD!!!

England is the worst.

Someone please give me a visual representation of what crisps are, because all I can think about is Funyuns.

I always forget Americans call crisps "chips". Which is just plain idiotic. Anyway, I do try the whole "hand in mouth" technique, but I find it doesn't really work so well. And having a simple drink doesn't work too well either, unless I do swash it like mouthwash. It takes the destructive power of a running tap to cleanse the mucky bits out of my mouth!

Edit: Here's your "CRISP" image Shorty ;)

They call it "Fish and chips" in New England and the Pacific Northwest as well. Because those parts of America at least approach a simulacrum of civilization.

Sensations sweet-chilli are the greatest crisps, I always forget how hot they are. And smokey bacon, and prawn-cocktail. I love crisps. I love hula hoops.

Best thing about my job is that Im surrounded by bacon rashers and onion rings and I just help myself :jess:

And it's crisps not chips. Chips are from the local chippy.

I don't mind getting the stuff out of between my teeth. It's part of the experience.

I'm torn between what to call them. On the one hand, they are chips to me because I grew up in NZ where they are called chips. On the other hand, I can appreciate how the British people wanted to have a way of seperating chips and hot chips. I call them crisps over here on the "When in Rome" method, however sometimes I still say 'chips' out of habit and people get a little confused.

...are there really places in this world that don't sell fish and chips? Or call them 'fish and chips'? O_o

Kettle chips (specifically the sea salt and balsamic vinegar ones) are the worst thing ever invented because it's damn near impossible to stop eating them. They're far too addictive.

I'm quite partial to Walkers cheese and onion, McCoys salt and vinegar and - the king of crisps- any flavour of Monster Munch. I also have a soft spot for pickled onion Space Raiders.

I honestly love Ready Salted.

Which in the UK makes me a bit of a plain Jane where it's the boring flavour. But seriously in Ireland Cheese & Onion is their "plain" flavour - finding Ready Salted is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

My Nan thought I was bonkers last time I was back in the UK with a very simple and clear shopping list of:

1) Crumpets
2) As many bags of Walkers Ready Salted as possible

I tried salt and vinegar chips once and was utterly conflicted. I was like, omg, these are the grossest things ever! ...but they're so delicious! Couldn't stop eating them, either way. Seeing how popular they seem to be, I feel the need to try them again.

One of my favourite chips types are garlic chips made from cassava, though. If you ever come across cassava chips, I'd recommend trying them out, although I've only tried garlic flavoured ones myself.
