View Full Version : Hangover Cures

At work, I write for small businesses. In essence, I write little advertisements and articles for companies around NYC, which involves sometimes thinking some creative article ideas and doing a bit of research. The other day, I wrote an article for one of the brunch establishments we have about the top hangover cures.

It was amazing, because my research confirmed what I already thought: eggs & wheat toast are amazing when it comes to easing a hangover, as they contain Vitamin B Complex! Yet, cultures all of the world have really seemingly odd cures, such as pickle juice.

So, friends, what is your own favorite hangover cure? Beyond the standard water & aspirin, of course. :greenie:

Long island iced teas have left me with a hangover for three days. :colbert:

Drink more, build up a tolerance.

EDIT: Or just avoid Long Island Iced Teas -- they're made with the devil's jizz.

My hangover cure is to stay in bed all day long and crave tomato soup and subways. Although I'm usually running to and fro being sick, especially if some one starts cooking bacon; that strong, sweet and distinctive bacon smell is a recipe for disaster when im fragile.

water, bacon, bread, other salty and greasy foods, occasionally caffeine depending on what caused the hangover

Hangovers are a perfect excuse for a big indulgent breakfast, though!

Big indulgent breakfasts are excuse enough.

I am 26 and the only hangover I have experienced is when I drank a bottle of vodka and a bottle of everclear straight.

Usually a decent meal (anything with some protein and fat) and some juice or milk fixes me right up.

Thats not a true English breakfast... just saying, thats a fry up. A true English breakfast would contain in addition to that on the plate: Fried Slice, (bread literally fried til crispy so good!) Black Pudding, (blood sausage mmm) and would be served likely with an additional portion of toast along with a strong cup of tea.

A true English Breakfast will smother 99% of hangovers. Especially with the toast and fried slice involved. A Scottish Breakfast will do even more since it contains bacon, square sausage, black pudding, white pudding, fruit pudding (least every one of them I've eaten has had all 3), potato scones (also known to the Irish and English as Potato Farls), Eggs, Mushroom, Tomato and optionally some Beans. Add toast and a cuppa to that and it's a struggle to eat all of it.

I find a cold can of diet coke works wonders.
Or a bacon sandwich, or both.

Coke is actually a good point, it was designed initially as a hangover cure (I believe I read that somewhere/saw it on tv or something) and it still works today.

Hair of the dog is the most commonly cited aside from a fry up, I've found.

I don't know the science behind it, only that it works 95% of the time for me:
Bacon sandwich and coffee.
I can go from minging to right as rain with that combo.

The other 5% of the time is a nasty one and requires the Full English and double strength coffee.

If not brought back to 100% (sometimes it only works to feeling like 80-90%) then hair of the dog finishes the job :D

Bacon sandwich. Irn Bru. You are set for the day, hangover or not.

(Note: I cannot prove this, I don't get hangovers. However, my friends tell me that is this the meal of the gods after a night out)

The best cure is not to have a hangover. Drink some G2 before you sleep.

Guy all trolling aside waking up all dehydrated and disorientated is not fun. I chose G2 because it has all of the Gatorade yay and none of the calories. That means more beer!

Vodka shots! omg I want to go drinking

Sleep. I generally don't get hungover at all, no matter how much I've had to drink, if I can just sleep enough.

If I'm unfortunate enough to have to remain awake, then soda and something greasy, like a McDonald's breakfast sandwich.
