I know what youíre thinking: didnít we just have one of these (http://home.eyesonff.com/content/2055-letter-producer-xxxvii-alpha-begins-new-screenshots.html)? Yes, we did, but Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida just loves us too much to stay away for long. But actually this is a special occasion: FFXIV has undergone its final save maintenance (http://home.eyesonff.com/content/2046-final-fantasy-xiv-roundup-japan-alpha-testers-faction-tokens.html), and nothing new from 1.x will now carry over into A Realm Reborn. He also included a couple of new alpha screenshots!

His words are brief and heartfelt , so Iíll just copy them here:

More than two years have come and gone since service for FFXIV commenced on September 30, 2010. With the final character save maintenance on November 1, 2012, a chapter in the realm of Eorzea has come to a close.

With all the changes that have come to pass, I realize that it must have been difficult for you, the players. Itís been a very turbulent two years for me as well, and the game has come to hold a very special place in my heart. Work to transfer data over to A Realm Reborn will soon commence. Rest assured that your character will be carried over to a new beginning, bearing all your cherished memories of friendships and adventure.

Thanks to your encouragement and support, the game has come a very long way. There are no words to express how grateful we are for your help in the gameís rebirth.

There are only ten days left until the servers go offline, and the last wave of changes hit Eorzea.

Just what is in store for the realm, and what will become of Dalamud? Youíll have to stick around until the end to find out!

Even Eorzea has its super heroes. The goggles are quite fashionable.

Yoshi-P also mentioned that alpha is going fine, and that more testers will be added continually throughout the process. For those that applied, there is still hope, especially if you are in the NA or EU regions!

Over two long years for Final Fantasy XIV, and all of that has been an uphill climb after a nightmare beginning. No matter what you think of FFXIV now and the upcoming A Realm Reborn rerelease, the effort and determination of Yoshi-P and the development has been admirable.

Oy, such a long wait until 2.0. I feel like I need to get in alpha/beta to keep my interest in this game.
