Let us discuss these great, and often underrated, movies.
I prefer the first movie, as it has my all-time favorite Disney villain in it:

Madame Medusa is the most terrifying woman in the world. :(
I loved The Rescuers, it was my favourite as a kid.

I was really worried the ending would be deep and depressing when we find out that the bottled message was in fact really old and the scenes with the little girl were actually time skipped in the past and
A) The girl was really old and had died or
B) was living out her life free already or
C) my best theory the girl having never been rescued, grew up to become Medussa since you dont see them in the same shot until a bit into the movie.
Then around halfway through realised it was a Disney movie and would never deign to impress me with such a plottwist.

Hohohoho! I love you. ^
Also, I truly believe that Medusa is the most psychotic villain Disney has ever produced. I remember being so scared of her as a child, and the mere sight of her still sends shivers down my spine, but that is what makes her such a great villain. She's stayed with me, from the very first time I saw the movie.

The Rescuers is a fine film, and its sequel is enjoyable too. :)
Medusa is a memorable villain with both threat and silliness in a nice, balanced mix, although it's kinda terrifying to think that Medusa's lead animator Milt Kahl based her on his ex-wife. The cave scene also gets a mention for being so memorable and one of those truly frightening Disney scenes for a kid to behold (well, at least it frightened and fascinated me).

What is there to discuss? They are both fantastic.
Yeah, I loved both the Rescuers movies. I remember when I was a kid and Disney would re-release all their old movies in the theater every so often; I went to see the Rescuers and I was so impressed that when I came home I drew a bunch of pictures of messages in bottles* and then taped them to my windows and pretended that my windows were a theater screen (so I could draw the curtains just like at the theater, of course!)
Also yeah Milt Kahl is a genius.

Here's something that I never got about it. If the society is supposed to help everyone, how when they get the message from the girl, the chairman or whatever he was is all like "meh, who cares?"

The Rescuers used to be the highest grossing animated movie till Don Bluth brought out the American Tail flick and then Little Mermaid, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin came out and then everybody sadly forgot about this movie. It's nice and sweet and has a strong female lead character. Bianica isn't it ? Yeah, she's pretty strong and confident and shows courage and isn't really a typical cliche damsel in distress type but the man lead was instead. The only really Disney movie I see do this again is Little Mermaid with Ariel having the one to save Eric twice from the ship and again from Ursula's spell when she disguises herself as a human.
Oh and Mulan...
Never seen the sequel though. My parents never really liked Disney movies so I only grew up with Snow White and Fox and the Hound. I didn't really see Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and most of the classics till recently...

It really is a shame that more recent Disney flicks have overshadowed the classics. I mean, yes, Aladdin and The Lion King and all that are classics themselves but so few people know or talk about The Rescuers nowadays.
The organ scene in the first movie had me in stitches even when I re-watched the movie about a year ago. Those poor alligators. And the fat guys. Snoops I think it was.
I remember Down Under scared me somewhat as a kid. The scene that freaked me out most was the "operating" scene with the Albatross. It was like his fear infected me or something. Plus the movie was just generally a lot more serious than the first one.

The Rescuers is fantastic, and Medusa is amazing as a villain. I hate watching her do that with her fucking eyelashes though ugh
I quite like the sequel as well - it's equally as good as the first, imo!
