If you could only pick one thing, what would it be?

I think I might have to go with the music. Uematsu will never stop being a genius.

When the stories are good, they're really, really, damn good.

Chocobos, but music is a close second.

The music and the crazy physics. If I had to choose one I would choose the music. Uematsu is great at creating memorable songs.

When the world/story/characters are immersing. And the music.

I used to love the magic elements, and casting all the pretty spells, and summoning!

As I got a bit older, I'd have to agree on the music. But damn, the magic and summons are pretty.

Worlds, Summons, multiple vehicles, limit breaks, FMVs and visuals.

The character art design. It's either GORGEOUS or so god-awful you can laugh.

I really love how the music makes the game have emotions. Nobuo Uematsu put a soul into the series like a god.

My favorite part has always been micro-managing my characters. Games with job systems (III, V, X-2, Tactics-series) and the games where your characters are essentially blank slates at the beginning (II, VIII, XII) are my favorites for that, and I've probably played these more than the others. There is just a lot to come back to for a second and third run through the game. :D

Also, the stories are hit and miss sometimes. But if it has a good story (like IV and VI) I will always come back for more.

The adventure, maaan.

Or the music.

From most the least (Though least is still pretty fantanstic)

1) The adventure and story. When it's good, by Jove it's incredible.
2) Music. This I was tempted to put first.
3) Characterisation. From the modelling to the behaviour of the characters.
4) Side-quests. "Quick, we must get to Oerba before our brands turn!" "Nah, lets do some missions"
5) Immersion. Linked to adventure, just the feeling of being at home in the world.

But finally, one thing that cannot be placed on any lists is the fans. I.E, you guys. You are easily my favourite thing about Final Fantasy!

The romance, specifically between Zell and hot dogs.

The Black Mages did pretty good covers of some of the songs. Assuming you like a little bit of rock.

Black Mages are gorilla.

Music is the most memorable. Followed up by the mystery of figuring out who was responsible for the destruction of the world as I kept on playing.

I agree with everyone who said music. Uematsu is love. I stan the music like whoa.

The stories are a good close second, though. And the character designs. <3

The stories and adventure. I love exploring a richly developed world.

That's easy: it's the Final Fantasy "feel"

at least for FFI-IX it is

I just like a game where I can get lost in its story, its music, and its menus for a couple hours.

Gotta concur with everyone else who said the music. Few other game composers are on Uematsu's level.

Right? It seems odd to me that only I-IX actually have that kind of feel. Something about them just draws you in and makes you want to delve deeper into the world and the story. XII kinda had something similar, but it wasn't exactly there. For me, I, III, IV, VI, VII, and IX had an astounding level of "Final Fantasy feel" (especially VI and IX) and I just have absolutely no idea where it comes from. I just made a post in Pike's Which Pokemon Game/Gen is your favorite? (http://home.eyesonff.com/general-gaming-discussion/146818-pokemon-game-gen-your-favorite.html) thread about getting lost in the worlds, and I can't believe I barely realized that the FF feel is eerily similar to the "Pokemon feel." These are games that make you want with every fiber of your being to show them whose boss.

I guess when games are done right, they just pull you in through some supernatural PLAY ME force and never let you forget about them.

Nomura's character drawings too. They're fabulous.

The sense of adventure. It's a composite of the story, world, gameplay, and music. The combination of all of those factors is just magical.

The story. When its good. When its bad... Well, it'd better have some kickass gameplay.

The sense of adventure is probably what sums it up for me. It's what I fell in love with in the early games and what I feel is lacking in the more recent games.
