Can anybody suggest a DECENT pop-up killer? These pop-ups at the forums are doing my tree in.. seriously.

I've tried one, but you have to teach it to kill each pop-up window, which is all well and good except the window changes every time...

WebWasher can kill all popups, but it'll also nix the Private Message auto-notification.

Thaks Bleys, i'm sure I can live without that. >=D

You know, I'm relatively new to EoFF, and I swear there were no pop ups the past few days. Today, THEY ARE KILLING ME! Were these things here before? Am I going insane?

They just started this morning (for me, at least).

As to your sanity, if you still do retain it, you won't for long. That's the joy of EoFF. ;)

I use Panicware Popup Stopper. It works seeeeeexcellent. It stops every damn pop-up, no matter what. To have a link being opened in a new window, press the link while holding the Shift button. That's all. :D

You can get it here: http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10059-100-8328090.html?tag=st.dl.10001-103-1.lst-7-1.8328090

Sometimes it's <b>so</b> powerful that it even stops IE loading up, because it thinks it's a popup. :p But that's very rare. :D It has two settings. One allows you to reduce the strength of the program (which still allows popups, unless there are a lot of them) or increase the strength, which causes every popup to close down. :)

This is a gift from the Gods, no doubt. Is it compatible with Getright?

The pop-ups here at EoFF have disappeared - hopefully for good. The best pop-up killer I can think of is the rather aptly titled "Pop Up Killer." Just search for it on Google. If you already have that one, and you're not having any luck with it - I wouldn't bother trying any others, as you're not going to find anything better.

I had that and it's a pile of crap... it doesn't stop pop-ups for sh!t... it let everything through except other IE windows...

Well they appear to have stopped for me too, thank god. Those pop-ups were really beginning to stress me out.

How on earth did they disappear? Have you done something? o_O

Well if they're gone now, that's good :D

I didn't do anything, maybe GSN realised how annoying they were by a sharp increase in complaints. xD

Apparently not, since they're back now.

Yeah, but it's not as bad as it used to be.

Yes it is... what really irritates me is you can't open EoFF windows in the background... I usually have 5-6 windows open and everytime it changes page, it pulls it back to the front...

One tip, if this isn't resolved... is to keep the ad window open... it'll keep opening the ads in the same window so it won't keep popping up

I already did that tip, but it seems it's not working. New windows keep popping up. I guess I was wrong about "It's not as bad as it used to be."

Ah well. There's nothing I can do about it, except enabling the pop-up stopper. :D

They're back? I haven't noticed anything popping up (or under) lately.

I use a program called adsubtract http://www.adsubtract.com/ It can block EVERYTHING. Pop-ups, ads, cookies, Java, animations, music, etc. And for you slow connect people, having the filters on will boost your speed a bit.

They're back with sound effects now. Twice as annoying as ever before. Squally's pop-up killer worked a treat, I tried it the other day. Very handy.

Pop-ups with sound effects are the straw that broke the camel's back. *downloads program* Though the most annoying thing is when the stupid things take the focus away from this window when I'm in the middle of typing a reply. *shakes his head*

It works... it really works! *huggles Skwowwy and covers him with smooches* Thankies! Now I can spam in peace...

Hehe, I've had that program for a year now and it has never failed its job. :D

Oh yeah, BlkKnight, I downloaded that program of yours and tested it. I deleted some cookies and stuff (which freed up 35 MB, w00t!). However, it doesn't block pop-ups. Too bad, yeah, or else I'd have kept the program.

I'll rather stick with my current pop-up stopper. :)

Hmm, I still get no pop-ups at this site, I have no pop-up stoppers of any sort (yet) and tried with both IE and Opera - maybe I'm lucky :D

But I think I'll odwnload that program anyway, it would be useful for other sites I visit :p

Please excuse the bumping of this thread, but I'd rather it didn't get deleted after three months of not having posts. >=P The Pop-Ups are back, and so this thread shall now be revived. Rawk out.

I downloaded Skwally's opo up thingy, and it stopped ANY IE windows opening at all!! I dun want it that badly!

Yeah, but you can just turn it off when it gets annoying. *nod*

Apparently, turning off the scripting in the IE options will stop the pop-ups coming up but it will stop other stuff as well... the fora will still work fine but toher things won't methinks...
