Let's Play Pokemon!!

So I'm bored and need to distract myself from studying for finals, so seeing as it's Pokemon December, I decided I'll play through Pokemon Crystal version. Not only that I'll dedicate this thread to a Lets Play style, where I shall periodically post up my progress with *attempted* witty humor! Not only that it would be too boring by itself, so I decided I shall leave the fate of my pokemon trainer in your hands EoFF!

You'll be in charge of naming my pokemon, and even deciding what team I'll be using! The way this will work is that you will bicker amongst yourselves to figure out a team of pokemon I will use against the current gym based on pokemon I can reasonably obtain at that point in the game. In the case of too many requests for who is on my team, I'll go with the people who make the most amusing reasoning for a particular pokemon.

So then, here comes the big main beginning point,
-Am I a boy or a girl? :monster:
-Who is my starter?
-What pokemon will I fight Falkner with?
-What will I name all of them?

You can't catch Mareep in crystal version (or at least not where they are in Gold/Silver), and definitely not before Falkner. :monster:

So I'll need a different team to tackle him with.

I literally walked about 10 steps when I got this. 10....mother.....smurfing....steps.... since then he's called me about another 3 times for rematches.....and not once has his pokemon even leveled up. -_-

Now then, I have made my first triumph and I have a small team! Now here's the question EoFF, what should be the new team I shoot for as I made my way to Azalea Town to fight Bugsy? And what should I name them?

In addition to my current team (and the unhatched/unnamed Togepi), some pokemon I have a chance to catch on the way there include,
Hoppip, Poliwag, Ledyba, Spinarak, Weedle, Caterpie, Gastly, Spearow, Ekans, Sandshrew, Wooper, Bellsprout, or Hoothoot.

I'll accept the first 6 suggestions on what my team set up should be, unless someone provides a compelling (i.e. amusing) reason why I should take 1 new or old pokemon over the other. So have it!

As for other pokemon, I totally second Sandshrew; it's one of the rarer types is Ground. I'd definitely get it.

Can you name Gastly "Formala" after my name please! Question, do you have the capacity to trade Gastly to get Gengar? One of the most annoying things about Pokemon is trade evolutions... I never have anyone to trade with...

Last we left me off I was preparing to develop the team you issued me to challenge Bugsy with as I made my way to Azalea. I begin my journey through the Union Cave as I face many perils, and strong trainers.

So I narrowly avoid the poke-murderer, and make my way to Azalea town where it seems Team Rocket has taken over the local well and doing nefarious things to the local Slowpoke population. This is something just about anyone could piece together, but Kurt is kind of an ass.

Y......Actually they make a compelling argument. After this enlightening discussion I leave the well and let Team Rocket continue on with their perfectly reasonable practices. After dragging Kurt back there was an awkward exchange about balls I'm omitting because it just got super awkward.

I then begin to wait till night to finish out my team as 2 of the pokemon on my list are night appearing only at this point in the game. On the way to training up some I run in my rival again and begin and epic fight!

I decided to try and let Coffman finish off Quilava as some sort of poetic first fight all over again, ends up not working out well for him. Who would have guessed? :monster:

So I throughly finish pummeling Asshat's team with a less combustible pokemon and continue on to catch my new team. Starting with,

There we go, got the 2 pokemon I need for the destined team. After a little training to get everyone strong enough we bust down Bugsy's door and start our fight.

Formala got the killing blow though in an epic showdown where he managed to beat the only pokemon there able to actually hit him. And with that I receive the Hive badge.

Next up is Goldenrod City and the rumble with Whitney and her famous Miltank. So EoFF once again I need you to pick me out a team to bring down this menace! So choose from old and new. First post will have all my current pokemon, and as for new pokemon coming up, it looks like the list will be,

Venonat, Paras, Oddish, Pineco, Psyduck, Eggsecute, Abra, Ditto, Drowsee, Snubbull, Jigglypuff, Yanma (pending on if a swarm pops up or not), Scyther, Pinsir, Sunkern, both Nidorans, and Growlithe.

So pick away from all that's available and find me a team to use. I'll use the first 6 suggestions I get from different people, unless someone makes a more compelling argument.

Keep the Chikorita, and Gastly.

The guide I'm using lists them at 1% without a swarm, I spent a little while in the Dark Cave too and found not a single one. You probably got pretty lucky, something I am not.


Ok update time, I probably won't have a lot of time to update this in the next day or so as I study for my final battle with finals, so in the meanwhile fight amongst yourselves on what my Normal type bashing team should consist of.

I'm pretty sure the Ghost Type gym is next so that's a great idea. Also, ghost on Ghost action is X2 effective, similar to dragon types. Be sure to use Formala to great effect there! Try and start evolving pokemon as well; at this stage of the game you should definitely have your starter in it's second evolution by now.

It is about, basically, the way that Wii fit controls people into thinking they need a wii fit to be fit.
(Control societies in relation to video gaming and consoles, basically. I don't even know. My brain has melted.)

I love the Wii Fit Plus. It's great, quirky, cute and have lovely bright colours, all associated with health. Not to mention it's logo is a giant Plus sign, symbolic with health.

Also, it does barrage you with seemingly clever features. The graph give me the progress to keep on going and track my progress, the calorie tracker uses everyday things to help me use simple, everyday food items to keep me grounded and the wide variety of activities give me the impression of choice and targeting key areas: Cardio, Yoga etc.

Colours also play a large role, green and white give the entire game a healthy, clean image.

This give you any ideas?

I forget if that's the fast bike or the jumpy bike, either way you gotta use the bikes special ability or some such.

This was a pretty touch Scyther to catch, but I managed to get him.

I decided to make an attempt at Whitney again just to see if my slightly stronger team stood a chance, well here's what happened,

I pitted pink ball against pink ball and had my pink ball win clearly. No biggie though, this wasn't the tough pokemon. Then it appeared. Terrible, strong, and destructive, I had an idea though. First Pedomon takes a rollout to the face and counters with a Hypnosis, swap out with Formala and then,

I don't use the Cerulean City glitch, but I do use the Old Man in Viridian City to glitch the encounter data for the Cinnabar Shore.

It's their fault for not making encounter data for that area, and not making Mew accessible outside events. You can't get Mew without cheating or glitching anymore.

Except that each wifi Pokemon is only available once, for a limited time. If you restart the game, or get it late, you're out of luck.

No, there are many events where you can download this and that Mew, Jirachi et cetera. And they are pretty much every year. I have also many Mews, Jirachi's, et cetera. And because of more than one Pokémon edition even more. I can send you some if you want to. That's another good thing. You can trade online.

But I never recall recurrences of any of the event Pokemon I've gotten, or of things like the tickets and flutes to capture legendaries in game.

I'm not saying not say it, maybe it did need to said. But I don't know, maybe say it more pragmatically? Even I felt uncomfortable. But I digress. There's a way of saying things without making the person leave the entire forum, is what I'm saying in summary.

Back to the more important topic, the problem with my Wi-Fi is that my connection is TKIP encrypted, so for some bizarre reason it is incompatible with my connection. This means I cannot connect to the GTS or mystery gift. Which is incredibly annoying. Not to mention most pokemon events are in America, or Japan, or basically anywhere nowhere near me. Not that I'd go anyway, but I'd like the option.

Edit: Also Sam, you still need to send in your Secret Santa presents! I've always sent you a visitor message which you must have seen by now surely. :(

Like I said, I have many of them. And if you don't count Wifi only but all the other events which can be visited relatively easy or the Global Link, there are even more ways to get a Pokémon. Serebii has a whole list of them.

It's not an anti-piracy measure, it's a line of text the DS understands that PCs don't. Just download the patch and you'll be good to go. :D
