Do you remember about a month ago we showed this awesome artwork (http://home.eyesonff.com/content/2074-new-ffs-get-old-school-touch.html) for the awkwardly named Final Fantasy Tribute ~Thanks~ album? Good! Because things are even more exciting now that the album has been released. For something comprised entirely of remixes of our favourite Final Fantasy tracks, it manages to balance the nostalgia value with the fresh new arrangements without stumbling over and making a mess of things. It's actually quite good, from what I've been able to listen to. A sample can be found at the bottom of the article, for the impatient among you.

I've only been able to find a sampling of the tracks, although it's a sample of apparently every single song on the album so it's not bad for a tester. It's a surprising success, bringing together a wide range of Japanese artists with unique re-imaginings on both new and old FF tunes all in the name of celebrating the series.

For now the album is only available in Japan - and not even Yevon knows why it's not up on iTunes - but we can only pray that we get a full version one way or another soon. Something we'll be keeping an eye on. What song would you most like to see on this kind of remix tribute album? Drop us a comment below. In the meantime though, enjoy the sample!

I usually love FF music remixes but most of those were pretty bad. Like the bagpipes and...whistling? The FFXIII battle music was decent but that music wasn't great to begin with anyway.

I have this. It's pretty decent, but it's not the best SQ album ever or anything There's some good stuff on here, though. I liked the bagpipy version of Battle on the Big Bridge quite a bit. It really felt like it would be the perfect theme for FFIX's Gilgamesh. Just a general character theme for when he's walking around on screen being goofy, not a battle theme since you never fight him. It just has that "Alexandria Alley" feel to it that is SO Alleyway Jack.

One thing I didn't like is that the entire album is practically all medleys. I've never been a fan of medleys. I was so pumped to see Calla Solid doing a version of Man With the Machine Gun after hearing their unbelievably awesome version of Crazy Motorcycle (http://www.espritduo.com/music/SQ%20Bonus%20Tracks/FFVII%20Crazy%20Motorcycle%20-%20Calla%20Solid%20mix.mp3), but then it switched into a medley of a bunch of battle themes.

I guess if you've been a consistent fan of the SQ albums, you'll like about as much as the others, but if you're expecting something mind-blowing because it's a 25th Anniversary thing, you'll probably be disappointed.

Yeah :/ They started to get better near the end of the first album sampler. Some of them were quite strange in combination of sound as well.

Do not like. There were some nice ones.... but I'll take my FF music as intended. And if from anyone else, Black Mages or Distant Worlds only.
