Lately I've been messing around with DOSbox. Without any real experience with any form of DOS before this, it's pretty interesting looking at what games are available for it. It's totally different from what was available on consoles! So far, Zeliard has been the only game that feels console-esque. It makes me think of Ys. :P

So, I figured I'd make a thread about it! :jess: What games released on DOS do you guys like?

Lotus Turbo Challenge 1/2/3 or whatever they were called
Test Drive 2: The duel
F-15 Strike Eagle
Commander motherfucking Keen

Although half of these would look, sound and perform better if you played the Amiga versions of them through an Amiga emulator.

Time to pull out my childhood! Let's see:

Wolfenstein3D
God of Thunder (It's free! =D Go play it.)
Realms of Chaos
Hocus Pocus
Powerslave

I may be missing a few, but those are the ones I can remember from the top of my head. Seriously, go play God of Thunder, now.

God of Thunder, hell yeah! I was seriously just thinking about it this morning!

The Dagger of Amon Ra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dagger_of_Amon_Ra) is my favorite DOS game of all time. Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmo's_Cosmic_Adventure) and Hugo's House of Horrors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo's_House_of_Horrors) tie for second place (the entire Hugo series is awesome and I loooved it). The King's Quest series is supposedly pretty sweet, too, but I think I only played King's Quest IV and can't really vouch for the rest of the games. I remember liking Mystic Towers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystic_Towers) a lot.

Really, all the old Shareware games.

edit: and oh trout, Pharaoh's Tomb! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharaoh%27s_Tomb)

Dune (1992)
Duke Nukem
Raptor

Not sure if they all work on DosBOX, but it's a start of some old school fun.

But they're not Realms of the Haunting. Which is a distinct problem. :D

Oh man, anyone remember Commander Keen or that uhm... Crystal something? Dammit, what was it... Crystal Caves?

EDIT: Yup, Crystal Caves it was indeed! Also, Sephex totally wins for mentioning Scorched Earth and Jill of the Jungle.

Commander Keen, of course! :D I once had all 7 of them on my PC. I got to know them through a friend of mine who had 1 to 3 (I think) on his Windows 3.1 (god, the memories!) and I got the rest for him once internet came around. Was the same friend who introduced me to Wolfenstein3D and the wonders of PC gaming.
