Final Fantasy fans with Androids will be interested to find that the tribute to old-school entries in the series, Final Fantasy Dimensions, has been released on Google play today for the price of $19.99. Already released on Apple's App Story since August, this is the game's premiere on Android.

Much like at the Apple store, this release comes with all the episodes in one package, so this release may have a certain degree of appeal to those download-unfriendly fans who want to enjoy the episodic game without multiple downloads.

Players can get their hands on this gorgeous 2D turn-based RPG for just over 200MB, not a bad size considering the game's massive scope, rivaling the scale of series classics such as FFIV. It is in many ways a huge throwback to the series, with gorgeous and colorful 2D sprites, a deep and involving job system, and other classic series elements.

One of the more interesting aspects of Dimensions is its plot, which focuses on two distinct parties rather than one. There are the Warriors of Light, led by Sol, and the Warriors of Darkness, led by Nacht. Some job classes are available only for certain affiliations, which leads to some interesting tactical decisions when the two groups inevitably meet. Dimensions takes typical series tropes and turns them on their head.

You can find it on Google play here (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.ffl_gp#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDIxMiwiY29tLnNxdWFyZV9lbml4LmFu ZHJvaWRfZ29vZ2xlcGxheS5mZmxfZ3AiXQ..). Just in time for the holidays as a gift for that certain FF fanatic. Or why not do yourself a favor and give yourself an early holiday treat?

Was this game just like FF1 with like barely any storyline and grind-it-out-gameplay, or does it have like a decent sized story with easier mechanics like in FFIV,V,VI? Or was it just rehashed gameplay from the early games with nothing really to write home about? Just wondering because I've not seen much about the game since it was first released let alone much buzz about it. Also, if it is enjoyed by most on this site, does it not deserve it's own page?

We should definitely attempt to construct a frontsite section for Dimensions! I've never played it, that's the only thing :roll2

Hells yeah! I could write that section, since I'm really digging the game right now.

I hadn't even heard of this until I saw it on the Play store just now! What's up with that?
I'd also be curious to know if it's got things like character stories or if it's just a basic world story.

The game seems good, but the controls are horrendous, even for a cell phone game. Never thought I'd be missing Secret of Mana's circle pad.

I really wish they'd release these things on regular handhelds.

For those who are wondering about this game. It feels the most like FF5 if you ask me. The job system is pretty good. It isnt just a superficial job system; it can be pretty deep if you like micromanaging. The story is there, but don't expect it to be anything like FF4 or 6. It can be weak at times and kind of repetitive.

The controls aren't bad, but they aren't perfect either. I generally hate touch screen technology though.

I bought this game a few months ago and got pretty far into it before I had to give it up to do homework... If you have any more questions just ask and I may be able to explain even further. :)

Combat quickly becomes a mess. ATB doesn't work well when you can't access commands speedily or accurately. Once you have multiple pages of abilities...

I like the game, I like the characters, but the controls suck.

I'm holding out for a 3DS version or something. I really hate playing involved games on cell phone. Phones are good for simple games like Tetris or Bejeweled.

Is the entire game available or is it being released in a chapter format? I don't even want to try it until I have access to the entire game. I'm not a fan of waiting for the next chapter to release.

It was released in a Chapter format in Japan, but we get the whole thing as one complete package here in the States.

I'm interested and plan on playing it. Not sure how much trouble I'll get in for adding $20 to the phone bill though. :p

It's chapter format on iOS. Prologue is free, chapters paid.

Prologue was enough to convince me that the game is nice, but basically unplayable with the controls.

i like it so far, albeit, only in chapter 2.
