Very dig.
Though personally, recently I'm finding that I much prefer traditional media, even if your digital work is just as stunning ;)

I found this guy doing Bob Ross like things (http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu1ZAYIKICo) but he has a lot better knack for lighting and I basically learned I should tone down my colours more when doing oil paints to make them less cartoony bright and get more natural lighting/shading. Pretty stoked on this result, although I do admit I roughly just copied what he did in the video.

Ya he's good! While Bob Ross is a great entry step to make fairly quick and easy landscapes, this guy Kevin Hill usually has a little more aim to what he wants to make, and then thinks about how he's going to make that. It's like he has a bit more structure and reasoning to it, and I find that very useful! Happy painting ;D

Haha! Can't say I've ever done a commission for paintings, but I've done them with drawings before. It also kinda depends on what needs to be in it. I am terrible at portraits and would not be confident doing them! Landscapes however, I'd be cool with that ;D

ooooo I like the yellow orange and green accents in that one. The border is darker and the green gives it a more calming feel to go with that darker and then BAM yellow and a little bit of orange. It really pulls the eye, that and the line work/shapes, to the yellow. Like if I cover the yellow with my hand the pictures likes nice and calming but with the extra color and lighting it gives the image more depth. It looks more like it's a fire in a fire-less world!
Good stuff!
Sorry if that's more in depth than normal, it just really resonated with me haha

This picture actually made me feel really uneasy. The uncertainty of the tower in the background covered in mist and the other grim surroundings. At first, the yellow and orange colours in the centre seem inviting, a little respite in a world of darkness. The more I look at them though, the more I seem to distrust it as a haven. It's like there is nowhere safe here. Very reminiscent of Dark Souls!
Your pictures invoke so much emotion Pete. Fantastic stuff, really great.

Lovely! I love the effect with the sky in the first one, what did you do to create that?
It's a very easy oil painting trick, but it does require
First paint the entire canvas black with black acrylic and let it dry completely. Then add the following oil paint colours wildly (as in; it doesn't have to be precise at all!): Indian Yellow where you want the sun to be, Alyzarin Crimson (red) in a ring around the yellow, followed up by a ring of Pthalo blue around the red. Use lot's of paint! Important stuff: these oil colours are transparent colours, meaning that when you put them on the black canvas it still looks very dark. With a clean brush blend all that together in circles starting in the yellow, working all the way outwards.
Then grab a small brush full of white and just smack some on wildly, starting in the yellow and working outward. When the brush runs out of white, wipe it quickly with some paper towel, load it up with more white, apply again. When you think there's enough white on it blend it all with a clean dry brush for added effect. The transparent colours mix with the white and will start to show very brightly.
I love this trick, it's really easy and needs very little precision.
Bob Ross shows and explains it way better in this video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nox3vRVZUUs

;D
I always used to doodle in my schoolbooks as a kid, but serious drawing and sketching didn't start until I was 19-20. Seeing the artworks on sites like Deviantart made me want to get good at it too. My drawings were always black and white though and eventually I got tired of it and wanted to try colours. That started off digitally in Photoshop, then watercolours, then acrylics (I took a painting mini-course in university), all with moderate success. After watching Bob Ross for breakfast about 2 months straight I just had to try oil painting and following the afro-man's tutorials made it surprisingly easy to pick up! It's just a lot of fun :p

Oh, Icewind Dale? With Fynn, a very good thing, trust me.
And I gotta be honest, I did think it was a couch at first glance, until I saw the white keys and then cottoned on to the fact that it was a piano.

Yeah, I thought it was a couch at first too! Then I thought "why would there be a couch there?" I looked closer and realised it's clearly a piano. Then I thought "why would there be a piano there?". Then I thought "I don't even know where 'there' is so why not?"
Once again, I find myself deep in thought when looking at your paintings, Pete. Excellent work!

Pete's paintings evoke hard, deep questions about the world around us, like: "is that a couch?" and "why is there a piano in the forest?" and "If someone plays the piano when no-one is listening, does the piano even exists?"

Thanks bro :)
Here's a new piece and it's probably my new favourite. I've put a lot of thought into it and it's based of a bit of lyrics of a song I wrote about a year ago. It goes "I left my instruments on these barren rocks, returned guitars to be one with woods and bark". The guitar in the piece is my guitar that's resting in a case back at home. I've used it playing in rock bands for about 10 years. That was before started living the travellers' life about 4 years ago and that's also when the band split up. So in a way my guitar is now retired, although one day I will start a band again. Can't wait for the day :)
