Question is in the title - what job(s) did you really want to do when you were younger?

I wanted to be a correctional psychologist or a chemist!

Hey, my current age still fits in this thread. I can just post my current dreams.
As a little kid I wanted to be a marine biologist, a vet, and some other things I can't quite remember.
now I want to be a counselor. I'm looking at family/marriage counseling right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if it changed a number of times.

I wanted to be a gaming journalist who interviews Square Enix! I knew I couldn't make the games cause i'm A) not japanese and B) bad at math, so I decided I wanted to write and interview them! I'm getting there.

I also wanted to be a novelist.

The very first thing I remember wanting to be was an actress. My mom squashed that out of me pretty fast and I've secretly always kinda resented her for it.

Other than that, I really wanted to be an archaeologist because of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider.

I wanted to be a fighter pilot, or a athlete. Grade 8 I wanted to be a lawyer, and in high school I wanted to be a musician. But now I just want to be happy.

I don't think I'll deviate from that much. :D

I wanted to work for NASA - I had no idea what I actually wanted to do there, I just wanted to work for them. Space still fascinates me to this day.

Then I went through a period of wanting to be a Vet. You know what I'd still love to work with animals some how actually - maybe at like a Kennels or something.

I also wanted to be Cabin Crew for Virgin Atlantic specifically xD I'd still love to do this actually but can see myself getting bored of it pretty quickly - that uniform though...

Then I wanted to work in TV (which happened around the time choosing A-Levels and subsequently my Uni degree so that's why I went down that route) - again never really thought about what exactly I wanted to do though. I guess I also sort of have a bitter taste of it after working in it for around 2 years, but think that was due to the fact my department commanded no respect so we all got treated terribly.

I also wanted to make games. Now I'm working at a games company - not making games... but hey. Again I never really thought about the "what specifically do I want to do"

So in retrospect I think I'm guilty of thinking too big and not on the specifics xD

Throughout all of elementary school, I wanted to be an astronomer (I believe I was the only kindergartener in my class who knew what that was). Since then, my dream job has been writing books and short stories for a living.

Story for you guys from when I was about five years old. I was at my cousin's house for some sort of family thing and someone asked my cousin, who was about my age, what she wanted to be when she grew up. She said "a cheerleader."

So they looked at me and said "and what do YOU want to be?"

And I said "A cardiologist."

A scientist, specifically an astronomer, but I was basically told that I wasn't university material (but hey, there was something similar said about Academic and University level classes going into high school and I ended up in them anyway because teachers said I looked bored) so I went to business school instead. :shobon:

A vet, for god knows why.

My first girlfriend wanted to be a vet... her surname was Paine. I tried to point out to her that most pet owners would be reluctant to have their pets treated by Doctor Paine.

I wanted to be a space cowboy... and after recently getting into Firefly I still do.

Right in the middle of this Forensic Science fad we're going through. Best of luck to you, there are so many people who are getting into this field these days.

I wanted to be a doctor. I never got good enough grades for it, so medicine at uni never happened. At this point in my life, I don't know if I could have done any more years at uni than I did. Totally student'd out. xD

Sorry, I thought that was most relevant.

Right in the middle of this Forensic Science fad we're going through. Best of luck to you, there are so many people who are getting into this field these days.

I think the reason of the fad is because of these sort comments...

"Oh my god, CSI:Investigation looks so amazing! I want to go into Forensics!"
"Oh wow, I get to catch the bad guys like those people on TV!"

 People get drawn up into this fascination with forensics when in actuality it's definitely not as glamorous as T.V makes out to be. I happen to not really like those police forensic dramas. I watch documentaries like Dr.G medical examiner instead! :D

Shauna
01-07-2013, 06:06 PM
Yeah I know - CSI and Bones and the sudden surge of forensics TV shows are entirely to blame. :p I was just commenting on the hugely competitive nature of that line of work these days. xD

Very few people in here have actual interesting picks.

What did I want to be? Ghostbuster. Though not so much to bust ghosts as to have a Proton pack and destroy shit with it while calling it work. Also, Astronaut, Power Ranger, Superman, and Dino Rider.

I've never had any overly ridiculous dreams for a job. I'm still holding onto my dream as a matter of fact. Either I'll be an author, an actor, or a performance artist. Of course, there's always something getting in the way of all that, so for now, I'm just trying to get a part-time job while I go for a degree.

I always get really drawn into careers from TV.

Like, Grey's Anatomy made me want to be a surgeon for a while. Then I remembered I really hate the sight of blood, soooo probably not the correct career choice for me xD

I remember in the first grade wanting to be an archaeologist and my teacher not knowing how to spell it.

Shortly after that I wanted to make comics, until I was about 11-12.

From there until I graduated high school I wanted to either be a journalist, a game designer, screenwriter or a film director.

In college I studied computer science and just wanted to end up with a job.

Now I do a lot of software design with a big focus on computer graphics. Still figuring out what it is I really want to do though.

When I was little I figured I would have a military career cause both sides of my family are military families. Then I got into video games and wanted to make games, I used to draw out stages for Mario Bros. levels I came up with and would make up my own power-ups. When I hit middle school I wanted to be a drifter, someone who just travels and hitchhikes across the globe doing odd jobs (I'm probably the closest to this). I got into writing at this time while I still worked on game design ideas, now focusing more on RPGs, and part of me wanted to have my stories animated or filmed and in a sense I really still like this idea. Late middle school to high school, I thought it might be cool to be an assassin, and funny enough, most of my classmates and co-workers feel I really had the disposition and lack of morals to do this. I honestly still think about how hard it would be to get into this line of work sometimes, especially in my brief stint working retail. Even though I'm classified as an adult I still dream of leaving my dead end jobs and work being either a graphic novelist, script writer, or game designer. If I stopped being lazy I could probably achieve all three. 39124

The basic jobs come to mind. Police officer, fire fighter, doctor, actor. Basically jobs that receive recognition. Video game tester because I spent all my time on video games and I thought that meant doing what I was already doing but getting paid for it. Astronomer because I deeply enjoyed the glow in the dark plastic stars that were puttied to my bedroom ceiling.

Also, I wanted to be a pastor like my grandfather.

I'm not even a religious person now, so....:monster:
