View Full Version : Build a Frankenstien Monster Final Fantasy Game

All the FFs have been shattered into little pieces and you get to build your own Frankenstein monster FF title. The rules are simple, you have to choose the story, cast, customization system, battle system, sidequests, worldmap/cities, and music to build your game but you are only allowed to choose one aspect from a game, so if you choose VII's story, you can't use anything else from the game for the other category so for example:

Story - FFIV (Crystals and the moon)
Cast - FFVIII (Squall and Rinoa)
Customization System - Crysterium (FFXIII)
Battle System - Turned Base (FFI-III)
Sidequests - X-2's silly nonsense
Worldmap/Cities - FFVII (Midgard baby)
Music - FFIII

You can either take this serious and try to build an ultimate FF game(just don't think too hard about it, and run with it) or come up with some of weirdest pairings you wish. Maybe Squall and Rinoa could have shined better had it been about IV's cast and set to FFIII's charming music set in Midgard. :D

Story: XI (Because I want it never ending :colbert: & CoP is one of the best FF stories ever~)
Cast: VI (Hardest one to choose. I liked about every character in VI and can't say I dislike any)
Customization System: V (Was going to say VII, which I like a lot, but I like jobs systems the best and V did it best)
Battle System: X
Sidequests: XII
Worldmap/Cities: VII
Music: Don't pay close enough attention. >__> Liked the boss music in VIII though so that. XD

Story - FF9
I probably shouldn't have done this one last.

Cast - FF6
No on here really pissed me off.

Customization System - FFT
Not exactly what most think of when they think of FFT, but I really liked the mixing and matching of individual attributes from all the classes. Also I liked how dolling out the equipment with stat bonuses actualy changed how you set up your party, making equipment a part of party set up, rather than a simple leveling up mechanism.

Battle System - FFX
I think that the battle systems was great conceptually just suffered balance problems and problems originating from the Customization System

Sidequests - FF4
For the most part you clear dungeons, kill stuff and get equipment with no minigames. Awesome!

World Map - FF5
Is by far the best world map(s) and plot twist of the series.

Music - FF7

And WK, I distinctly recall you dishing on the Crystarium in FF13 threads of the past.

That's just my example, I was going for something bizarre hence most of my choices would be considered awful if put together.

I'd just slam FFIX and XII together, with a bit of FFXI's job system thrown into the mix.

You have failed at understanding the point of this exercise.

Story: FFVI (I want Laguna, Kiros, and Ward to somehow end up in the opera)
Cast: FFVIII (More on the Laguna side of things)
Customization System: FFV (only because I've always heard good things about the job system. I haven't actually played the game yet)
Battle System: FFX-2 (This was just my favorite battle system)
Sidequests: FFIX (Tetra Master! I like Triple Triad better, but I still got some enjoyment from this card game. I really don't spend too much time on sidequests.
Worldmap/Cities: FF XII (No real reason. I thought there were some cool locations... and I'm running out of options)
Music: FFVII (This was tough. I already used the games I would want to put in this spot. I still like the music from VII though)

Trying to make the worst FF game now... :p

Story: I
Cast: VIII
Customization System: II
Battle System: XIV 1.0 on release FFT (imagine the horror of grinding your characters in Tactics with II's customization system)
Sidequests: VII X
Worldmap/Cities: XIII
Music: X VII

Somehow making the worst game possible seems even more fun for the Franken-game thread than trying to make the best.

Best
Story: FFXII (political intrigue)
Cast: FFVI (good diverse cast)
Customization System: FFV (Job system)
Battle System: FFX-2 (best application of ATB)
Sidequests: FFVII (nice balance between sidequests and story)
Worldmap/Cities: FFXI (Vana'diel)
Music: FFIX

Frakenstien
Story: FFVIII (time compression wtf?)
Cast: FFIII (onion kids)
Customization System: FFII (beat up your own characters)
Battle System: FFI (ineffective...)
Sidequests: FFXIII (mark hunts onry)
Worldmap/Cities: FFX (Spira is boring)
Music: FFXII (can't remember a single song from that game other than the opening)

That would be a terrible terrible game. FFXII's music wasn't exactly terrible, but yeah, definitely not memorable either.

This is pretty much the best possible answer. You could replace FFX-2's battle system with FFXII's and I'd be equally happy.

Heroes: Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy (Hey, don't complain, this leaves out tons of great characters, including most of my all-time-favorites)

Villains: Final Fantasy VII (strong, well developed cast of villains)

Stat Customization System: Final Fantasy X (Sphere Grid)

Ability Customization System: Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (Job System)

Battle System: Final Fantasy X-2

Sidequests: Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift.

Story: Final Fantasy XIII

Story Presentation (Pacing, depth of development, and introduction of key elements): Final Fantasy VI

World Setting: Final Fantasy XII (Ivalice)

World Presentation (World Map): Final Fantasy VIII

Music: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (Ok, this one might be cheating a little)

Story: FF Tactics; because because

Cast: FFVII; sailor suit Barret and Cid cussin (writing as them for the FF Ciddies -whether I did it well or not- made me really want to revisit these two characters).

Customization System: FFV; any class I want, aw yeah.

Battle System: X-2; best part of that game.

Sidequests: FFIX; a card game (even though I prefer VIII's) and chocobo hot & cold!

Worldmap/Cities: FFVIII; I enjoyed being in every single area. Yes even that hard-to-navigate castle.

Music: FF Theatrythm; because I like variety (if that is cheating then: FFVI :colbert:)

Oh man, there are so many that made me think "This or that... this or that... well I think I want this for that so I can't have it there..."

The one that should never be
Story: Final Fantasy X-2
Cast: Final Fantasy I
Customization System: Chrono Cross
Battle System: Theatrythm Final Fantasy
Sidequests: Final Fantasy XII
Worldmap/Cities: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: the Crystal bearers
Music: Chocobo tales. Using a tonberry chorus for every instruemnt.

Template:
Story: XII (A more politically driven plot)
Cast: VI (A bit cast of character to choose from)
Customization System: IV (Each unit is pre-set in its roll)
Battle System : Tactics
Sidequests: Just insert whatevers left over. Don't give a fuck. :p
Worldmap/Cities: IX (Personal favorite World Maps)
Music: V (Some of the more energized musc, such as Clash on the Big Bridge)

To explain, one thing I like is a character having a role in battle relevant to who they are. However I love Tactics, but these two things don't seem to mix to well. However, if you were to introduce a cast as large as VI's, even with the pre-defined roles, you would have a very large amount of options as to how you could formulate your groups, keeping the SRPG feel very in tact. This was something done with relative effectiveness in the Luminous Arc series.

The Story was selected because I think a SRPG set up goes along well with a more political and war like set up, and the massive cast fits this feel nicely as well. The music of FF V I though was some of the most energized music in the series, and since I'd already selected VI, IX, and Tactics seem the best choice. :p
