http://www.dreamwidth.org/userpic/5484676/744696Uh... hi. I haven't been active in here in ages, because REAL LIFE and work and all that.

However, a couple longtime Final Fantasy fans on LJ/Dreamwidth are having a year-long marathon to replay Final Fantasy I through X, once a month, and then...well, we'll see.

I decided to join the insanity. I've never played I, II, and IV before, so I'm filling in gaps in my education.

I've been mainlining the iPad remaster of FFI (sorry, I know, I should be a purist and find the NES version, but I am an OLD LADY and want to experience the story not grind for days).

Just for fun, I've been posting a liveblog sort of playthrough on my Dreamwidth (http://auronlu.dreamwidth.org/216235.html)/Livejournal (http://auronlu.livejournal.com/231155.html), with humorous commentary and screenshots from my characters' POV. (I borrowed four characters from Breath of Fire III who have suddenly found themselves pressed into service as the Four Warriors of Light. Don't ask why; in retro gaming, character motivation and backstory are optional.)

I'm also posting gamer geekery and discussion such as the origins of FF in D&D (http://auronlu.dreamwidth.org/217424.html). We've already got some good discussion going there. Also, I've got links to Moogle University, the two gamer gals whose 2013 Final Fantasy marathon inspired MINE, and their write-ups and commentary are also entertaining.

Rei: So, now it's time for us to waltz through the lava caverns of Mt. Gulg and find the Fire Crystal.
Nina: I have a bad feeling about this.
Momo: We're Warriors of Light! We're inflammable!
Spoo: *does not think that word means what she thinks it means*

So anyway. Here's a crazy idea for 2013: try a lighthearted playthrough of ALL the non-MMO GAMES (no pressure to complete EVERYTHING, just one a month for the main story and whatever sidequests appeal to you), at least up through X, or maybe even XIII if your November/December are less crazy than ours.

Or, even if you're not that insane, please drop by and enjoy watching me make an idiot of myself playing the old games I haven't tried before and romping around in the ones I have. Lots of Final Fantasy nostalgia, peoples; come and get it (http://auronlu.dreamwidth.org/tag/f:+ffi)!

I will definitely try to give this a shot with the games that can be emulated. No promises, though! ;)

Interesting. I've been meaning to give I-VI a shot and haven't got around to it. I would join in on this if I didn't have a tradition in the Summer to play the PS1 titles. I might make it so that come Spring I try to start the earlier titles.

While I don't have the screen shots, you've inspired me to re-start FF1. Just finished the Marsh Caves. Time for some Mystic Key fun!!!

I will say however, why'll I can play and beat 1,4,6-13 in about a month each, the months of February and March (II & III) are gonna be brutal. They're my two least favorite Final Fantasy games.

I'm on a much more long-term agenda to do this. I couldn't get it done in a single year, though... I do about three FF's per year at the moment. So far, since deciding to get on with completing the series, I've finished XIII, XIII-2, I, II, V and VI. I've already beaten VII, VIII and X in the past on one or more occasions each. So now it's just IX (currently an ongoing thing) and then III/IV to go. Getting there!

Good luck with FFII. It was a real chore for me to finish. :(
