Yup, it's another food thread. This time, I'm asking what foods either have:

A) A ridiculously putting-off name

B) Looks awful

but they taste damn delicious anyway. This is obviously a subjective list. For me though, it's definitely faggots.

I'm not being offensive either! That is the actual name of the food item my mum simply loves, but which I poke fun at her for eating each time. Faggots are basically meatball - type things made from pig's heart, liver and other offal. Delicious.

Bonus points! For the "Brain part"

Other foods with unfortunate names include Spotted Dick, and a fish called Pollock, which was renamed Colin in Sainsburys (http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/news/store-renames-fish-to-spare-embarrassment-1663389.html) to not offend customers. Haven't stopped the Faggots lasting on though.

Finally, we have what has become a running gag now between me a PapStar, that of Balut. The below image is slightly disturbing, but imagine that cooked.

I remember PapStar's mum lapping a balut up, as if it was really really tasty. Interesting diet, the Philippines have.

But now, what foods do you really enjoy, but have an embarrassing appearance or name?

In the Philippines, they have a type of bread called "Monay Bread". Now, to Westerners, this may sound completely innocuous, but monay means vagina, so do the math. Well, it is delicious anyway.

Also,

Hushpuppies are freaking delicious, but I always cringe whenever my dear friend says that she's frying up some Hushpuppies. :(

Black pudding looks pretty rough but you can't beat it in a cooked breakfast as far as I'm concerned.

Au gratin potatoes. My mom called them just "gratin potatoes" and when I was a kid and didn't know the difference between "gratin" and "grotten" (a word I guess that I made up in my head) and "grotten sounded so much like rotten to me that it sounded gross but dem potatoes were soooo fucking good.

By description (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinuguan), I'm sure other people will find pork blood stew off-putting, but I had grown up with the dish as being normal to me, so I have trouble picturing it as gross. My family normally eats it with rice, but it's also really good with rice cakes called puto, which are also in that pic. (inb4 Spanish speakers chiming in about that word)

Also, my Filipino family friends, cousins, and I used to tease non-Filipino people by telling them it's "chocolate meat." XD

I generally don't like dishes that consist of large amounts of blood.
