Am I the only person who felt these were a pretty good idea? I mean they were totally stolen from Star Ocean but honestly, FFIX utilized them much better. Thoughts?

They were excellent. I loved that not only did they add to the characters and story, but they also could change it a bit (e.g. Garnet getting mugged in Treno).

I think they're cute. At some points you can't watch all of the ATEs available and have to make a choice, which adds a bit of replay value since you can watch different ones next time (I still had happy surprises in, like, my fifth playthrough watching ATEs I had previously missed!) Originally I didn't really understand why they didn't just make them normal cutscenes, but I've come to appreciate them since.

They were nice, how come people dislike them?

Well, some people don't like FFIX at all, so obviously some people are stupid.

Ouch!

I have been disappointed that these have never returned.

It's a shame, because these little scenes added so much to the characters and locales.

Vivi and Quina marriage ATE. <3

said the person that baught their copy used and without a booklet, even though i dislike the game i at least baught it brand new on day one...

anyways when Wolf said ATEs i originaly thaught he meant like the Swordfight in the beginning of the game where you had to time the inputs to impress the queen, i dont recall the ones that affect the story instead of a cutscene, but it seems like a cool concept...

That ridiculousness of that statement physically wounded me. xD

well it makes sense to me, if you love something you don't get it second hand, you pay retail on a new copy to support the company that makes the game, buying used only supports the secondary market and Square sees not one cent of that... to me buying used and claiming to like the product seems absurd, yet you say if someone else doesn't like IX they're stupid... its a case of the pot calling the kettle black in my opinion...
so yeah, just pointing out the ridiculousness of your own comment there, good to see you have a good sense of humor about it though...

Even worse if you download it.

At first I didn't get why they weren't part of the main story like Rantz said, but you know, the ATEs really were charming and breathed a lot of life to the world of IX. They definitely added to the game's uniqueness.

theres always time for those that didn't obtain it propperly to show support by buying a new physical copy or downloading a digital one from the PSN...

lol, why hide Gamblet? i should be hiding, this isn't even my usual section of the forums, i just came to the IX forums recently hoping someone would convince me enough to give IX another try but so far most of what i've gotten was called a hater, troll, and now stupid, for either not liking it or finding faults... the IX community sure has a great way of showing support for their game...:roll2 thank gawd there's at least a few nice people here...

It was really awesome to see what the other party members were up to while venturing a new city. Unlike in other games where you'd meet up with them later thinking "what the heck were you up to?". Especially the Tantalus Group!

They also added bits of comedy and opportunities to get rare objects which made them that much sweeter.

I really like them. I loved getting the chance to see all sorts of silly little things the characters are doing on the side, which are usually unrelated to the story. I also like that it never forces you to watch them if you don't care.

Was always sad they never brought these back.

Yeah, I liked them. I never understood the point of the ones that always happened even if you didn't want them to (those ones should have just been cutscenes), but for reasons others have said, they added something to the game, and were good for replay value.

It would have been nice to have scene them again (even though I only played one FF after FFIX chornologically), but it is like the mentioning words thing from FFII - something that would have been nice to repeat, but it made the game stand out on its own because they didn't repeat it.
