Not two minutes after I set foot inside Safeway, the power went out. They made me put my salmon back and had everyone vacate the building. :colbert:

Whenever the power goes out I pray to god they get it fixed before the battery on my laptop and phone runs out. I swear I used to have an imagination before technology came along :(

There's always a flashlight near by because I can't stand not being able to see what's around me.

Oh and this was a fantastic event. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeast_blackout_of_2003)

I haven't been in a significant power outage for years. In the last one, I just played around on my laptop (while the battery lasted) and read by flashlight.

Although I did have one experience outside the home. About... 6 years ago, I was at work over the summer when the power went out. The town I lived in was struck by a massive storm, and the power was going out everywhere. As I was driving home, I almost got stuck in a flooded side street where the water was far deeper than I anticipated, and many of the traffic lights were out. Fortunately I lived several miles away, and my house still had power.

I want to participate in this thread because power outages are fun but I can't think of any. :(

Power outages are such an adventure! It's like being poor!

As a kid, my brothers and I would always play hide and seek in the dark around our apartment. If it wasn't too late, we'd gather all the kids in the neighborhood and play a massive game of it outside.

As an adult, I take naps.

Make sure you've got cool-burning ones, a lot of regular candles are too hot and will just burn and not be sexy on someone's genitalia at all!

I remember posting about the last blackout I was in.

Anyway, it was pretty hot and so a lot of San Diego was blacked out. I ended up going to the casino because I was bored and I heard they had AC. They didn't. :colbert:

All the king's horses and the king's men, couldn't find little humpty, again. :(

When I was five, the power went out and hid in our walk-in fridge.

Not had any notable power cuts for a long time.

This thread, however, has made me miss Safeway. :( You were such a good shop.

I love when the lights go out. I went to go see Hatebreed at a local venue the day of the blackout Faris and Araciel mentioned. Suffice to say, I left early since they couldn't really play without power. Whole city was desolate after I left; No cars on the road, no businesses operating. Spooky!

Another time we were getting ready for a new year's eve party in my friend's basement. Earlier in the day, I was talking on AIM to one of the partygoers and we both lost our electricity at some point. Later that evening, we're just hanging out down there and suddenly the lights go out. The homeowner was out purchasing party provisions, so we sat alone in the dark being awkward for thirty minutes. Then the door from upstairs opens and we see a light shine down. Turns out the breaker just needed reset. Oh well!

edit: on the '03 blackout article:

Per Christopher Mark Heben, US Navy Seal, on a National Public Radio How To Do Everything Podcast, the blackout occurred because a military intelligence aircraft pilot "hit the wrong switch as they flew from North Carolina to Maine and basically zapped the whole power grid down with an electronic counter measure device.

So yeah, government having a big red button that shuts off our juice? Spooky!

Last time we had a power outage here I was at work. Took 3 hours to get power back and then our internet connectivity to the outside world was still down so we spent the rest of the shift playing games over LAN. Best. Day. Ever.

Light candles and read a book. It's about at exciting as reading a book but the shadows dance on the walls if you don't pay attention to what you're reading.

Probably because you don't notice them as much during the day.

Oh, the power is out? Might as well.. continue doing whatever I was doing before.

The last power outage I experienced was last year on my birthday. A derecho came through and rocked the town (and pretty much the whole state). It was horrible, considering it was at least one hundred degrees outside and the humidity was even worse. And we couldn't go do anything because all the fun places in town had no power.

Oh wait, did I say horrible? I meant fantastic.

I hate my city. I hate almost everyone who lives there. So the great thing about this blackout is that while basically the whole town without power, my small neighborhood of about four blocks was the only place that still had electricity. It was heaven. The best birthday present ever. While all these people that I couldn't stand were having the most miserable time of their lives, I was at home on my birthday in air-conditioning, playing video games and drinking.

Okay, maybe I'm being a little mean. But seriously, it was one of the weirdest experiences of my life. While my city had basically turned into a third world country and everyone was complaining about not being able to take a hot shower or check their Facebook, none of that was affecting me. Totally surreal.

:colbert: I was at my aunt's house so all I got to eat for dinner was a peanut butter sandwich.

My parents got pizza!

And sometimes the power goes out at work ...so they light candles...very safe working under candles in a restaurant, especially when you have to go downstairs for refills.

One time earlier this month, the power went out that lasted for about an hour. No, it's not just my house, but a good portion of the town I live in was out of power. This was during the late evening hours, so everything was completely dark, especially outside. Only candles or battery powered lights were on. My laptop was on (running on its battery), and my phone service was still available. Wifi was off, so I had to rely on my phone and the car radio to find out what's up. It was annoying to put the time on every clocks, but it's okay.

I think my mom slept through it though. xD

The black out I talked about earlier last from one night well into the next day, at least. That day I hung out with my neighbors that I had never even met before.
