Okay, so let's say for the sake of arguments that SE has decided to retire the FF series, maybe the company is going under, the staff wants to get out from under the series shadows, SE has turned into a pure Publisher and let go of their in-house development, or some other bizarre theory.

So they are making one last FF that will embody the spirit of the series and act as a final kick off for the beloved franchise, what kind of game would you like it to be?

This is too depressing a thought for me to even consider.

I don't know that that is possible. If you take the series as a whole, especially the direction it has gone in the last decade, there seems to be less and less cohesion between entries. Making something that sums it all up would probably look considerably different to people who were with the series for the entire run, or the people who picked it up along the way.

Or being more cynical I could say that the only common thread I see holding everything together that has a "Final Fantasy" name on it is the desire to use the brand name to increase the titles marketability. In which case maybe All The Bravest could be seen as the purest incarnation of the series....

Now I'm depressed.

I believe that the "final" Final Fantasy Squeenix will ever release will be the ever sought after FF7 remake. xP It will be the sign of the end.

The point of this thread is what do you want to see as the epitome of the series? If you want to focus on one generation of the series, a spin-off series, or try to tie all of them together that is up to you as long as its your interpretation of what FF is all about.

Do like a box-set of every single Final Fantasy ever made in a adamantite casing. Preferably with the signatures of all the main characters of each game.

I would hope they drop the gimmick of ground-breaking battle control systems, annoying-as-fuck mini-games, and throw in your face series staple creatures like moogles and chocobos to just make a game with a good story that has real character development and is fun to play.

I think FF will still have a huge influence to point that even a "Final" FF game won't mean anything, they will still make another brand of the same class with different elements here and there.

What i want from Final "FF" or any "FF" is, a great mix between my favorite elements from FF games ( tons of flashy moves, worldmap, strong focus on cities less dungeons, airships, FMVs, tons of story NPCs) and Japanese adventure games elements and interactions such as "Look", "Investigate", "Talk", "Ask" and key items. Also, I want robust main quest and zero side quests.

Simply, I want anti-modern RPG, I don't like massive fields and events interspersed between hours and hours of just... traveling, pointless dungeon crawling, guild style miniature cities without any clear purpose from story stand point.

But I liked Sidequests. What lessened the experience of FFXIII for me was that there was little sidequests.

Actually, I like secrets/side quests similar to recruiting Vincent, Wutai side quest, obtaining submarine or summons such as Odin and Diabolos.

What i dislike is "marks", "Auto complete quests" and "gathering materials ".

A big, bad mega RPG, along the lines of the PS1 games in terms of content and sidequests, that's a crossover between every numbered FF game ever, containing the most epic storyline in the series's history. Basically, Dissidia: The RPG. Directed by Hiroyuki Ito, composed by Nobuo Uematsu, character designs by Amano, Nomura, and Yoshida all together, and executive produced by Sakaguchi. A collaboration between Square-Enix, Atlus, and Monolith Soft. Features the best elements of every game; the content and sidequests/minigames of VI to X, the openness of XII, the job system of V, XIII's graphics and battle system, you name it.

One can dream.

What would they call this game? I'm personally leaning towards them not numbering it, and calling it The Final Fantasy like how the fourth Final Destination movie was meant to be the last, so they called it The Final Destination (even though they changed their mind on that one...)

A Final Fantasy where all the main leads and their girlfriends and I guess Locke and Hope for Terra and Lightning team up to save the world from all the villains. FF 1 to the last FF before the lost of the company.

You can have a team up to five characters and the last boss would be a huge epic battle starting with Garland as Chaos and ending as the last FF before the lost.

The game would start out as NES and then they head to a new world and it transforms into SNES and then the final world would play like FF 12's open world battle system or whatever is more modern at the time.

You'll be able to choose between

Warrior of Light
Princess Sarah
Firion
Maria
Onion Knight
Luneath
Cecil
Rosa
Bartz
Faris
Terra
Locke
Cloud
Aerith
Tifa
Squall
Rinoa
Zidane
Dagger
Tidus
Yuna
Shanlotto
Prishe
Vaan
Penelo
Lightning
Hope
FF XIV female and male
etc

So your team could be Lightning, Dagger, Cloud, Squall, Firion.

Music would be a huge remix from all the music from FF's past and moments where the vocal songs like Eyes on Me play and when the credits roll it would show highlights from all the games in the past.

And instead of the " The End " it would say " Thankyou ".

I like the name " Final Fantasy Evolution " for it.

Well, it's been a while since I've made a lengthy post here, so this should be good fun. Note, for this Idea to work out, this will need to be a very long game. We may be looking at Persona 3: FES game length here. :p

There will also be ass loads of Nostalgia of the previous games involved with this, as I think the last Final Fantasy should have plenty of it.

1) In Renaissance of VI, we won't exactly have a main character. There may be a few characters to start the ball rolling, but inevitably the story becomes more about their collective whole then 'This guy and friends' like most FF's do. This is to both facilitate a throwback to one of the best and most loved in the series, but to keep all characters important, as is about to be brought up in element 2.

2.) A world of characters from different Final Fantasy Titles. Not characters pulled out of their own worlds like Dissidia mind you, but alternate world versions of them as it were. Their stories and characters will definitely be reminiscent of their own games, but given it's an alternate world there will be differences of course. I'd even like it if you switched between different groups for parts of the game until you inevitably converge. I'd like anywhere from 3-5 separate groups before converging in some manner. Here is a list of characters I'd love to see.

1. Warrior of Light (FF1 - as scene in Dissidia)
2. Kain (FF IV)
3. Edge (FF IV)
4. Rydia (FF IV)
5. Edward (FF IV)
6. Bartz (FF V)
7. Faris (FF V)
8. Galuf (FF V)
9. Sabin (FF VI)
10. Edward (FF VI)
11. Terra (FF VI)
12. Strago (FF VI)
13. Setzer (FF VI)
14. Cid (FF VII)
15. Red XIII (FF VII)
16. Vincent (FF VII)
17. Zidane (FF IX)
18. Freya (FF IX)
19. Vivi (FF IX)
20. Auron (FF X)
21. Basch (FF XII)
22. Ashe (FF XII)
23. Sahz (FF XIII)
24. Snow (FF XIII)(Note, this guy would need a lot of work done first. :p)
25. Ramza Belouve (FF Tactics)
26. Olan (FF Tactics)
27. Agrias (FF Tactics)

Mind you there could be more, but those are just what I'd like to see. :p

3.) This game needs to be huge in scope and ambition. We cannot end on a small scale story. We need intricacy and depth, and we need to do it without need of a smurfing Datalog to keep everyone up to date on the happenings of the world. Hell, I'm for having multiple conflicting enemy parties as well, a concept I've always been sad doesn't' happen more often. It needs to be massive enough to warrant the massive party, and enough things going on to make sure everyone gets their stories and has relevance to the happenings of the world.

4) We can find a way in incorporate two of the games customization systems. The two in mind are Espers and Materia. Firstly we talk espers. No longer doing Per Level bonus's or teaching magic, the Espers will serve two functions. Stat altercations on the one they are assigned, Perhaps %based ones (This can be up for debate. :p). The Second is determining Materia Slots, and what kinds of Materia can be equipped. For example, someone with the Shiva Esper could not equip Ice based Materia. There would also be a Summon materia equip-able by anyone allowing for the summon of their equipped Esper. There would likely be alterations to how Materia works in general, but that's for another time. :p

5. Through some kind of plot element, allow different characters to see into the other dimensions, giving them a chance to witness the actions of their other selves from previous entries in the series. This would give us the chance to see some of Final Fantasy's greatest moments in amazing state of the art cut scenes, as well as give opportunities for character grown and touching moments.

...Okay, this is going to be a lot longer then Persona 3: FES. :p

I would be okay with mini-games if they were just games to play for the fun of it or ignore if you chose. Games that don't have the best stuff for people or items to make the games easier. Make them completely optional instead of the "you don't have to do them and get this stuff" nonsense way.

I'd like a throwback type game like FFIX was all those years ago, but now even better. I'd also like it to involve the traditional job system and FFX-2's ATB battle system.

That's pretty much what I was going to say, and then decided to post something silly.

I would also like this game to exist on consoles, not on iOS or 4DS or any other such bullshit.

Last time they did this it was a resounding success, saved the company and they ended up doing another 13 plus sequels and spinoffs. :p

But anyway, hmm...

The game is set on Earth, current day (whenever it might be), at Square-Enix headquarters. You are playing new employee Sonny Dae, an artificial intelligence specialist. Your task is to research player interaction and enjoyment using a special AI routine called the Creative Intelligence Documenter (CID), which plays through each iteration of the soon-to-be-retired FF series and documents its reactions. The objective is to see what made the series so successful so that the formula can be integrated into new ventures or sold on.

However there was something that you didn't account for. The complexity of CID reaches such a level that it becomes self-aware and with an intelligence that has never been dreamt possible. It is able to time-travel back to 1987 where it injects iterations of itself across all the Final Fantasy games and integrates itself into the story.

In the present day it has become sympathetic to the fate of the people in each game now that there will be no more sequels or remakes, and via "Cid" (reviving him where necessary) it passes on its intelligence into the key characters from each game. Along with itself, it is able to grant them an artificial form in the real world, so they can plead with their creators to make more FF games.

S-E, however, insists that the time of Final Fantasy is over. Sonny is given the task of retiring these old characters, who led by CID, promptly escape into the world.
