So most people in the knowing often tout FFIII as having one of the hardest final dungeons in the series. For those who conquered it, what are your thoughts?

It's a grueling one.

I would go with grueling more than hard.

It's unforgiving and very exhausting, no arguing there. It's because there is a complete lack of any kind of help along the way. No healing springs, no save points. You treck through one enormous dungeon, surviving only on your items and spells, face a tough boss, only to go through an even harder dungeon, facing four of the toughest mothersmurfers in the entire series, before finally battling one of the most unforgiving final bosses ever (Cloud of Darkness on the NES, though easy in terms of strategy as she only has one attack, nevertheless is brutal), all without being able to save or heal up even once. I can definately see why that would be considered to be the hardest final dungeon in the series and I agree with that. It's a good thing that both Syrcus Tower and World of Darkness are so epic that makes players *want* to take on the exhausting challenge.

Even the ds version is absolutely exhausting

Then what would you say is actually the hardest then?

FF1. I felt much more threatened of potential death running through the Temple of Fiends than I did in FF3.

Though I guess if you factor in the CoD difficulty over the Chaos difficulty then FF3 would probably be harder overall. But the actual dungeon I felt was easier.

40325

99 Hipotions, 99 Potions, 16 Elixirs, 26 FenixDowns...I'm about to storm in there like the Ultimate Warrior

That depends on people only calling the World of Darkness in Final Fantasy III or the Crystal Tower Final Dungeon as well. If they only count the WoD, yes, if not, no. Then it is medium.

Actually a not too much trained Crystallium makes Orphan's cradle very tricky and the Cleft of Dimensions or the Lunar Subterraine are also pretty difficult.

That's me right here, but I think it's actually been longer than 3 months for me more like 6.

To be exact the final area is made of four separate dungeons, each one the size of a full dungeon. The second one (Eureka) is chock full of optional boss fights and has no save points (there are none in this game), and as mentioned above, you have to go through the last two (Crystal Tower and World of Darkness) in one run, with no more opportunities to save or rest for the remainder of the game. From that point on there are still 6 boss battles if you count the final boss, and four more optional mini-boss battles.

My solo Dragoon w/ Holy and Blood Javelins laughs at the final dungeon. But since I only play solo character challenges for FF3 the hardest dungeon is the end of the Ancient Ruins. Azraels are impossible to beat, so you have to use a Thief to easily run from battle. Problem is there's one battle that as far as I know you can't run from or is very rare to run from, so its basically luck to get through there.

Grueling is an understatement. I replayed this while reviewing for board exams and I was so devastated when I died the first time that I had to pack up and go home. Didn't finish review that night. :))
