Here's some food for discussion. Some guy compiled the "Top Ten" lists of like 55 different gaming magazines/websites (http://www.filibustercartoons.com/games.htm) and made a definitive list.

39928

Pretty unsurprising list overall; I'm somewhat surprised to see Super Mario 64 and Goldeneye so high (SM64 was great but there were better platformers on the 64, and as much as I LOVE Goldeneye it really has not aged well, imo.)

I should also note that this list is biased toward older games because he's including lists that were made some time ago.

Your thoughts?

EDIT: same idea using a slightly different ranking system:

39929

EDIT EDIT: If you ctrl+F for Deus Ex it's only on one list. WTF. I mean I guess it's on the best list on the entire page, so that's a small victory, but.

Never! Banjo Kazooie probably pushed it the closest but there is no greater platformer on the N64 than SM64.

I agree with you on Goldeneye though. It's still the only FPS I have genuinely enjoyed but it really does look dated now.

As far as the list goes, barre from a few exceptions, it's pretty good. It has my three favourite games of all time up there so...

What. I think it holds up wonderfully :colbert:

SM64 was great, but #2 overall is a bit much. And yeah, Goldeneye is way overrated there.

Some of the individual top 10 lists are crazy.

Perfect Dark was the best N64 FPS.

Also GTAIV sure is getting a lot more love in those lists then it did on a lot of forums I post on.

There's better Fighting games out there than Street Fighter II these days. Come on, get out of 1992. Yeah it was a huge classic and milestone back then, but no way near that standard today.

Yeah, we all know SNK did way better than SF anyway.

Fatal Fury people.

Surprised that original Super Mario Bros. and original Zelda weren't on there. Otherwise, not a whole lot of surprises. Though, I would invalidate any top 10 list that didn't have Tetris on it.

I think you're missing the point. It's not about how it holds up today, it's about what it was for its time.

i think.

I think these lists are usually a combination of both.

The number one spot is well deserved.

I see a lot of Super Mario Bro and Super Mario Bro 3 but not really any Super Mario Bro 2. Was Super Mario Bro 2 considered a little dissapointing by a lot of fans. I never played many of the Super Mario games after the first one but I do remember Super Mario 2 received a ton of hype back in the day (or at least what I considered a lot of hype in the pre internet days which basically equalled a lot of buzz from my friends).

I believe I did actually own Super Mario Bro 3 but never really played it.

The Tecmo Bowl games started coming out about that time (which many sports video game fans will tell you was the best football video games ever made) so most of my time spent playing video games were spent on that or games like Bases Loaded (didn't really start appreciating rpg's or adventure games much until FF7).

I am surprised that Resident Evil 4 is on the list. Good game but I didn't think it was THAT good or that people considered it to be that good. Everything else I don't really have a problem with although it really comes down to how you define best. I wonder how this sort of list will look like in 20 more years. 5 of those games are from the N64/Playstation era. I think there is age bias in there. Interesting none the less.

I disagree, but I recognize that I'm in the minority in disliking Zelda games.
