View Full Version : Valentine's Cupid or Valentine's Scrooge?

"Valentine's is just FOUR days away guys! Isn't that amazing? It's got like, pink hearts and trout! And romantic films like The Notebook feature as well! Cool"
or
"Oh great, another cheap holiday filled to the rafters of lovebirds whispering sweet nothings to each other. Pah! Look at those supermarkets and stores capitalising on everything from sickly sweet teddy bears to last-minute cards. Terrible."
So, are you Valentine's Cupid or Valentine's Scrooge? I personally lean towards the happier end to the spectrum, even though I've never had to do anything at all with it in all my life.

In the middle.
It annoys me when people are really anti-Valentine and let everybody know this, simply because they seem to talk about it more than anyone who loves Valentines does.
I've never really done a big Valentines thing - would I complain if a guy took me out and wined and dined me on Valentines? - heck no! I wouldn't complain if he didn't either. I think it's nice to see people all lovey dovey and take a step back from everyday life to have a couples day.

Everyone should be happy, today seems to be torn between people who are happy and those who are miserable and then there are those who ANNOUNCE how unhappy they are and it is just silly no matter what. This will be the first Valentines in my entire 22 years of living that I had a gf that I can share the day with. But I am not going to do anything on V-day, instead I will take her out that weekend and we will see a movie then I will bring her back to my place and cook her a nice dinner. I do not know what else to do besides give her a nice card and a gift as well but I also want to avoid the usual BS of flowers and/or candy.
To those who enjoy V-day, awesome for you. To those who don't, please don't be sad but also please do not fret as love is everywhere in the world.
Valentine's has become astonishingly more consumerist (not saying it wasn't to begin with). Over the years, the Valentines-related products have been overflowing into multiple aisles. That is very annoying. This also applies to EVERY HOLIDAY, so whatever.
I like receiving chocolates though, so I get amped for chocolates.

commercial holidays are silly
not saying i don't like getting gifts and i'll give them if i have a reason to
i just rarely have a reason to
but it's really not as big a deal as some people make it out to be

I like Valentine's day. I do get annoyed at people who are very vocal about their hate for it, it kinda brings down the mood. "Valentine's day is the worst day ever!" Really? Is it really the worst day ever? I had one girl who told me I would hate it more if I was single or if I had had bad Valentine's day's but I have had some crappy Valentine's days. One date involved the guy telling me to buy myself a sundae, and I told him it sounds yummy, but I'm still kind of full. No, no, it'll be good, I want to treat you. So I got one. I only finished about half before I was full. Then he yelled at me about wasting food and money and stormed out of the restaurant without paying. Another one involved me being yelled at in public again for being afraid of heights. :|. I still don't hate Valentine's day. That wasn't the day's fault.
I like to just get a chocolate bar and maybe a rose. Not a whole dozen, but I love roses and it's romantic to get once a year. Have a romantic dinner, whether it's staying in or going out. If I don't get anything it doesn't matter, so long as my boyfriend spends time with me. It's just a day I like to make sure things are put aside for couple time. And if you're single you can go out and buy some of that Valentine's chocolate and treat yourself and laugh at how cheesy and terrible those romantic comedy movies are.

I love Valentines day. Ironically I've never been in a relationship on Valentines day so I've never really had anything done for me on Valentines day. Usually I just treat myself to a bottle of vino and a pizza and a crappy chick flick whilst my housemate is off wining and dining his other half. All things considered that's the best part of it for me haha, flat to myself :kakapo:
On the flipside I can understand some of the hate it is. It is getting a bit ridic these days just how many chaff "special Valentines Day" versions of products get made. But most of the people who kick up a ruckus about it are either a) jealous or bitter or b) actually love it but don't want to be seen as soft or c) haters who're gonna hate.

It's just another day. It's been several years since I actually had someone to celebrate it with.

Even when I had a serious relationship on Valentine's, I still didn't give a smurf. He cooked me dinner and we had sex. That's really about as much as I want for VD.

This will be my first proper valentines day and my gf won't even be here, so that's kinda shitty. I'll get back to you next year.

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lzvdkfaP1x1r3xahbo1_500.jpg is the only entertaining thing about Valentine's day. (NSFWish)
I hate Valentine's Day with a passion. Not because it's a stupid, blindly consumerist holiday that people in relationships invest way too much emotion into, but because I run a florist and people are absolutely terrible for Valentine's Day. Never have I seen so many people be so petty, hateful and immature over holiday gifts until I entered this industry.
Seriously, Valentine's Day brings out the worst in people, and even though it's our biggest, most profitable day of the year, I'd gladly give up said profits if it meant never having to deal with another baselessly enraged Valentine's Day customer.

I think it's cute. Whether they normally would or need this day to force them, couples make time for each other on this day. Kids share candy with their friends. Single people have their self-esteem tested. It's all in good fun. I do hate cards though.
WHO ELSE MISSES being a kid and making little boxes in school that the other kids would put valentines in??
Because that shit was great

Like pretty much all other holidays, I don't get the people who go nuts over them either way, with love or hate. It's just another day.

I will be celebrating the way I always do; by playing non-stop romantic songs, and watching a romantic movie. I will continiue to celebrate this way, until I am actuall in a realtionship with someone, then I will celebrate with her. Until then, I will love Valentine's Day for what it represents.

My feelings about the holiday depend on whether or not I have someone to spend it with.

Because that trout was great
I remember that my primary school did that once. My box had just one little note on it, and to be honest, I'm fairly certain it was secretly written by my teacher out of pity for not getting anything.

I give people awkward Valentine's cards. Usually strangers.
Most cards have pop culture references. The ones I'm making this year have ponies on them. Badly drawn ponies.

Oh my god, this REMINDS ME, I was at a garage sale last Spring and I found really old Star Wars Valentines.
I drew dicks on them and gave them to all my friends.
It was a magical Valentine's Day that will be remembered forever.
