"What will be the biggest happening in gaming in 2013?" Crazy!

"What will be the biggest happening in gaming in 2013?" was a question asked by the leading Dutch gaming journalist site.

Now I'm not one to jump on the poll train too quickly. What surprised me was the outcome:

The majority of people voted 'the release of GTAV' will be the biggest happening of 2013, whereas 'the release of any new console' scored a lot lot lower - and that's including the possible release of the PS4, new Xbox and Steambox.

I first thought it was madness, but then I sort of realized I don't really feel the need for new consoles either. Now I'm not looking forward to GTAV at all, but on the other hand I would definitely support new software and IP's rather than new consoles.

Any thoughts? What do you think will be the biggest happening in gaming in 2013? Is GTAV really such a big deal? Or are the Dutch just crazy?

The Dutch are crazy, it's true, but I'm much more excited about playing new games than I am about the method in which I play them. It's like all the faff about the Kinect, Move, and other useless gimmicks; I don't care about the controller I'm using. As long as it is comfortable, I just don't care. xD

GTA V? Eh. That's just the result of asking a bunch of people who follow some pretty mainstream gaming, I guess. Surprised "the next CoD game" didn't get a mention. >=P

The Last of Us has the potential to be the biggest happening in gaming in 2013. It's what I'm looking forward to the most at any rate.

Also, The Last Guardian... I reckon it'll give Final Fantasy XV a run for it's money when they're both released at Christmas 2023.

It's looking like there's actually going to be a lot of new games to play when these consoles launch, between multiplatform games, first party titles from studios who have been MIA for the last two years, and games which have all but disappeared since the last bits of information came out 2 to 3 years ago. The stars seem to be aligning for one of the least painful launches in gaming history.

GTA V should be cool, though.

Well it depends what you mean by "happening". Biggest game release probably will be GTA V. The launch or even announcement of any new console from Sony or Microsoft would dwarf it though, and I'm sure we're going to see at least the latter.
