The Escapist : News : TimeSplitters Respawns Onto PC (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122678-TimeSplitters-Respawns-Onto-PC)

So Crytek is letting a small team of fans make a new Timesplitters for PC that will be free and available sometime next year. This is kind of, sort of really smurfing awesome.

Oh okay :)

Also this is a pretty fucking bro move by Crytek. If TS:R turns out well I might go buy one of their games in support even if I'll never play it.

Indeed. Not very often a company sees fan demand for a new game and decides to hand over the reigns to them since they have no plans for the series themselves. Plus it's win/win for them if it is a success since they get to find out the demand is there for a new game with no real risk.

sure the game will be free
but playing it with a lightgun will mean you have to buy a lightgun usb

on the other hand i did lethal enforcers on a mouse and still had fun

This is pretty awesome! I have fond memories of TimeSplitters and hope they can actually cobble together a multiplayer that feels like TimeSplitters 2. I don't know if using CryEngine means a lot of stuff will be done for them already--if not, getting 16 player online play to run smoothly is no small challenge for a team of dudes working in their spare time.

These are the kinds of projects that tend to peter out and never be completed, but it's pretty rare for them to actually be supported by the rights owners. Would be pretty wild if this came out and was popular enough to spur a sequel.

Excellent bit of news. A Facebook group calling for a new TS game is one of the few 'cause' FB pages I liked (read into that what you will). Pretty cool to actually entrust it to the fans too. Hopefully it'll lead to something tangible and not just fizzle out.
