Some more new screenshots from Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII have now been released. Following the release of the images of the location called 'The Dead Dunes' Square Enix have also released images of some of the shops and inns in the game. Shops are an important staple in Final Fantasy, with players being able to buy and upgrade their weapons there, and also to buy those all-important potions and Phoenix Downs.

This first image shoes Lightning in a pretty swank store (hopefully she has enough Gil for this establishment) the only 'shop' in Final Fantasy XIII-2 was the fabulous Chocolina! A traveling merchant, so it's nice to have some 'proper' shops for this game! There's something about them I just love...

This next image shows a shop menu and some of the items on display, personally I'd love to try that Gysahl Salad, I bet it's packed with goodness. Not quite sure what the Fond de Behemoth is.... I'm actually very fond of Behemoths and I don't want to eat them, even if they do give me 100% recovery.

At first glance at this picture, I thought the innkeeper looked a bit like a grown up Vaan (and a better dressed one...) but I think that's probably just me. Anyway, like the shops, Inns play a pretty big part in Final Fantasy - it's a place to go and rest and heal up your party and quite often there are some awesome scenes, like those in Final Fantasy IX and the scene with Julia and Laguna in Final Fantasy VIII (although it's technically not an 'inn' it's sort of the same, right?)

The next set of images all appear to be concept art of different landmarks in Luxerion.

Here's a clock tower/monument.
Considering that the bulk of the game's plot is about time,
I wonder if this could be a significant landmark?

42143
A residential building.
This reminds me a lot of the very gritty/grey style of
Midgar in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

42144
A station timetable!
One to The Dead Dunes Please!

42145
Haulage car
I wonder why it's pictured upside down

42146
A sword and shield, possibly one that you can buy at the pictured shop.
It's pretty neat, bright red and lethal looking, with a finish like crocodile skin and obsidian texture.
I'm thinking this weapon is very, very dangerous.

Exciting right? I can't wait to see what Square Enix will release next - I'm waiting for some palaces and forest areas! Something with lots of exotic colour to contrast all of this grey.... What about you?

Anyone find the pricing of food to be odd- as in why would you ever get anything other than a Baguette?

Maybe you can only eat one food per x hours or something like that.

Looks pretty cool.

It is still in development, it might just be a place-holder price tag.

I'm glad the inns are back! We've not really seen them since FFX. I remember the inns being very very important in FFVII - Cheap, and heals you fully. Now that's a relief! FFX made save points as 'inns' which reduced them to mere novelties.

I'm not sure if, personally, I'd be wanting to hop on to a train to the Dead Dunes.

It sounds....

If they are usable in battle, the higher percentage ones would have a lot more use in comparison to lower percent.

They're not for battle, from what I gather, and from what I leared at the First Look. These items are immediate use, kind of like staying at an Inn.

Time apparently is an element in the game, so maybe it could save you some in ways other than Gil?

Another good point. Perhaps it takes like an hour to eat the meat dish.

This looks very interesting. I think the shop looks great! I'm very interested in what role they'll play in the game.

Now I'm even more excited about this game :bounce:
