So I was looking through my old posts and I got this idea for a thread:

What do you think when you read how you used to act throughout your time on EoFF?

When I first joined I seemed very childish, then I eventually got into that whole "flaming/arguing" phase of my life(of which I apologize to anyone I may have annoyed back then). Honestly, some of the stuff I couldn't even finish reading because it was embarrassing.

I absolutely hate reading my old posts and I hope to God no one remembers how awful I was. It's incredible to think I was ever like that.

Looking back, I was a bit more... childish and careless with what I posted. But I was eager to make friends with most others. I guess I've gotten more selective and careful, but as you can see it's still me.

Too stuff way to seriously and got into unnecessary conflicts. Then again, that could be said about anywhere I posted on the internet. I didn't appreciate how low key this place can be, too.

I used to be horrible with grammar and spelling, bit i g0t betta wit tiem.

back when i was younger, I tried to make a concerted effort to not seem like a 13 year old on the internet, despite being exactly that

if you read all my posts you could probably watch me grow up. at the core i'm still the same person, i just express it in a cooler way now

Good point, comparing things (writing) I did 10years ago to now, is like night and day. Can you post a long ago picture and currently?

The only difference is that I was a typical extremely horny and pervy teenager then. My sense of humor was a tad different as well. I still find things that aren't really that funny to other people people, funny.

I used to be a little shit who had a couple of random arch enemies in the FF forums because they liked FFX and FFVIII and I would be an abusive annoying scrote at every turn. Now I've branched out and I act like this to everyone. It's progress! :jess:

Slowly, like society, I just began to degrade and become less sophisticated. Eventually, I even gave up on making my riddles rhyme... And if you knew me in real life, you would know how much of a big deal that is.

Loony BoB

I was a lot more friendly and caring, I must concede. I've steeled myself over the years, as people often do when they grow up. I am still friendly and still caring, but nothing like what I used to be - I would consider it my personal duty to help everyone I did and didn't know through any kind of problem they came across. I had a deep empathy with those I knew back then. Likewise, I was a much more sensitive person when things happened to me. This had it's highs and lows. Far more highs than lows, I'm happy to say. I was a poet back then, too, and wouldn't hesitate to post my poetry into the Writer's Corner. I haven't attempted writing a poem for years, now...

I would spend a lot of my time socialising with everyone I possibly could from EoFF - phonecalls to random EoFFers were sometimes every other day. I would often have five different chat windows open at once, and I would be quick to respond to all of them at the same time. I definitely was in chat on a daily basis, or else in a Yahoo! Conference (sometimes with voice and/or webcam enabled). I would talk about my personal life more openly, because my personal life was more offline than it was online and offline people were less likely to trace it back to me.

The impersonal things: I posted more (My most active years were probably 2000-2003). I had poor grammar.

I was a lot more excitable, a lot more long-winded, and a lot less jaded. I also used to sign off all my posts and I took things that weren't supposed to be taken seriously way too seriously. And I still played Final Fantasy games. I suspect I would probably find it embarrassing to read ten-year-old posts of mine, but I doubt there are any left here. If there are, there can't be many.

That said I probably would be willing to help restore old posts despite the potential embarrassment. Someone on staff should let me know what they want to know about how the process works. I've restored missing posts into several old databases (mostly FG's) so I suspect I'll be able to tell them something about it.

I can't stand looking back at my time here in EoFF because I was, by all accounts, a royal dick. I can just barely bring myself to read this user note:

I created two second accounts and didn't get caught either time. The only reason the staff knows about them is because I told them.

((Three actually, but the one that's active right now doesn't count; I'll tell the staff about it a year or so after I stop using it))

I was nicer and more caring and friendly to people. This led to me getting bombarded by people needing validation in their lives, which turned me into an emotional crutch at first and then turned me bitter.

I used a lot more smiley faces, got a lot more excitable and was more of an attention whore.

I was new to forums and didn't really know how to post, etc. I remember not knowing the difference between a post or a thread or a forum, but I learned with some help. I know I didn't use enough emoticons so some of my posts showed up as sounding not like they were intended to sound like. Other than that I don't think I was much different than I am now since I was already all grown up when I joined and not a teenager. :)

It's weird how everyone is very negative about their EoFF past. I have fond memories of old posts by a lot of long-time members.

Maybe the past versions of you would think that you're boring and too mature now? Except for Raistlin, of course.

XxSephirothxX

I don't really have any desire to go back and look through a ton of old posts, but I know how I'd feel about 'em. Some would be embarrassing and silly, others overly serious, others trying too hard to be cool. Mostly, they'd just be relics of the past that hardly feel real anymore--even if the whole conversations remain, the context in which they were held, that moment in time, is gone, and there's no way I can fully recall those circumstances.

But I think that's a good thing! As time goes by, it's easy to remember the good times and let the little annoyances and embarrassments fade away.

I was an idiot then and an idiot now, so that hasn't changed. Back then though, I thought I needed to be a different person online than I was offline. I thought that's what people did, what the internet was for. It meant doing/saying things I wish I hadn't.
