Red velvet is in the top-tier of favorite cakes for me. I love red velvet. I love red velvet. It melts in your mouth and it's always so moist. Cake, cookies, donuts, fudge. Doesn't matter what it is, it's just heavenly. And that frosting! Lord help me!

I know a couple of people who can't stand it, and I don't understand.

Do you like red velvet? If you don't, get out, because you are not welcome.

There are way more bad red velvet cakes than good ones.

Red velvet is my fav. I've tried red velvet all over the freakin' place. From upscale bakeries like Thomas Keller's bouchon, to "award winning" red velvet cupcakes, red velvet donuts, red velvet from Costcos, etc. But they continually disappoint. The best red velvet cake I've ever had is from Ralphs grocery store chain in Southern California. $14.99 for a big ol' cake.

I just had red velvet cake from a popular bakery in LA. It was $60 for a cake. And you know what? The cheap ass one from Ralphs still blew it out of the water.

Homemade really is the best way to go. And do not skimp on the frosting.

I would go and bake it, but's its better to bake with friends and actual equipment. I do have an electric whisk, which for some reason only has one speed: fast. I hardly ever use it because of it.

My manual whisk has its head come off sometimes :p It's awfully expensive having to replace these items. I do go baking, sometimes, but because of aforementioned problems not so much, and even then I only bake 'simple' items that don't involve much whisking.

ELECTRIC WHISK? Use a fork! The only things you should need to bake this cake are some bowls, measuring cups and utensils, a pan to bake it in and a fork.

Bu..but, the link said to use a whisk! I don't actually own measuring cups. Measuring spoons, yes, cups? Pfft. My baking cupboard is perhaps the most understocked in history.

You can use a fork to whisk.

I've always wanted to try this, but it looks like it would be very sickly! I do have a wonderful recipe for it so maybe I'll have a go at them one day.

Formal I have the Hummingbird recipe for this cake which uses an electric whisk to get the consistency if you'd like me to type it up for you?

Next time one of you guys or girls is in London. Remind me to make you come try the cakes at Eggs Benedict across the road from my house. The cakes there are ridiculous especially their red velvet.

I'm not really sure, because the only RVC I've had came from a box, and it wasn't the flavour I would have picked. I recently tried to make it using beetroot powder in lieu of food colouring, but then you get into Ph balancing acts, the difficulty of which borders on alchemy. Perhaps I will someday visit a vegan bakery with a red velvet option and I will be able to form a more concrete opinion.

Had Red Velvet cake today, it was delicious, but I still prefer coconut and lime!

One that we all hope gets snipped?

I have never tried red velvet cake. Maybe one day the opportunity will arise but I'll probably be craving something else :shobon:

I love balls. I love balls.

Honestly, I don't think I like red velvet cake batter more than white or yellow or chocolate cake, but cream cheese frosting is obviously some out-of-this-world shiz.

FYI, for all y'all in the US, Steak and Shake is currently offering a Red Velvet Milkshake. I didn't try it when I was there, but it looked delicious.
