What was the best concert you have ever been to?
Have you ever been to a concert of a band you kind of idolize, and did they live up to your expectations?
I just went to a concert last night that was probably the best concert experiences I've ever had. Now, Now is one of my favorite bands, and it was such an interesting experience seeing a band I've idolized live. Their performance was awesome, and the two bands that came before them (Anakin, and The Lonely Forest) were also very enjoyable.
I've also been to a Norma Jean show where one of my good friends' bands played in the concert with them which was a lot of fun despite not really enjoying most Hardcore/Metal music.

I've only been to two concerts. Robyn and Noah and the Whale, I enjoyed both quite a bit! Robyn was better though, partly because there were no fucking idiots trying to start a mosh pit there. (Yes, some 15 year olds tried to start a mosh pit at a NatW gig.)

The best? Geez, I can't choose one, but I can list memoriable ones.
Pink Floyd-- Saw them as a real little kid and it was the first concert I went to. Pink Floyd has always been real awesome with visuals and this concert was no exception.
Nine Inch Nails-- Saw them in May of 2009. Trent ended up playing a lot of stuff from "The Downward Spiral," which is my favorite album. I also got to hear other songs I always wanted to hear live. Although I like all of NINs discography, they decided to stay away from newer stuff for the most part. I just like the unlike most bands, Trent just plays whatever he feels like for each show on tours, so he doesn't do the whole "I must play lots of newer stuff because it is new" deal.
Marilyn Manson-- The first show I saw was simply astounding. This was for the tour supporting "Mechanical Animals." The set list was perfect and this is back before Manson really burnt himself out, so he was able to maintain very consistent energy. The set pieces and visuals were also real cool. That, and I was close to the front on the floor, but I was pefectly positioned not to get bumped around too much by the crowd.
Dear Friends: Music from Final Fantasy-- Back in February of 2005. This was basically a dream come true. Nobuo Uematsu himself was there. Also, this happened to be the second EVER video game concert show in the US, or at least for Final Fantasy if I am wrong about that. When "One Winged Angel" started to play, the crowd was so loud that no one could hear the music for the first 3 or 4 seconds. Plus, near the end Uematsu came on stage with a translator and interacted with the crowd for a bit! Final Fantasy music means a lot to me, and being in the same room (the venue, while big, wasn't some giant arena place) and seeing the man partial responsible for childhood memories was straight up magical.
Between The Buried And Me-- This was back in January of 2010. This was for their tour supporting "The Great Misdirect." While it wasn't the first time I saw BTBAM, the band's energy was at maximum level. I mean, they closed off the show with "Swim to the Moon" and followed up with "White Walls." HOLY. ****ING. ****.

It's probably between:
Devendra Banhart - I don't follow his music, but he was good right up until the point where the venue had to close. The crowd weren't very happy so he went outside and gave an acoustic performance on the street!
Joanna Newsom - I was just totally transfixed. She was charming, elegant and the music was beautiful. I think I was pretty much in love with her by the end of the concert.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Brooding and ominous. And the crescendos! I'd never expected to see them live, as they went on an indefinite hiatus while I was in Bangor (a town not frequented by Canadian bands... or British bands... or buskers). Waiting that long and then finally getting to see them just blew me away.

I do think BTBAM would be fun to see. I've started getting into them lately.
An FF music concert with Nobou has been on my bucket list ever since middle school. I probably won't ever get to experience it but I always get excited when concerts like that pop up.
Also, I don't know what you are talking about, Locky. Noah and the Whale is the perfect band to mosh to (I would never even think it would cross someone's mind to start a mosh pit at a Noah and the Whale concert...)

I saw the Chili Peppers in 2005 and it was both the best concert and the best night of my life and it definitely lived up to my expectations.
I've been to so many shows that went above my expectations.
- the Yeah Yeah Yeahs blew me away because Karen O smurfing knows how to work a crowd
- fun. was so enjoyable because Nate Ruess gives off so much unbelievable energy
- Panic! at the Disco because again, Brendon Urie knows how to work the crowd. I went in not expecting much but I had such a great time.
- I don't think I've ever had a much fun as I did watching Gogol Bordello live. They had a plethora of dancing girls on the stage and everyone was crazy-dancing to insane gypsy music and everyone was in love and it was just all-around awesome.
- Death Cab for Cutie melted my heart the first time I saw them. The second time they were with that Magick Magick Orchestra and it was a nice addition, but smurfing Ben Gibbard threw a fit during my favorite song because the sound messed up and that kindof ruined it for me.
- Alkaline Trio has never failed to put on an amazing show. I always have so much fun moshing and somehow miraculously find good people to stand next to, they play all the songs I hope for and I just know I will have a good time.
I'm finally getting to see The Postal Service this weekend and I get to see Alkaline Trio tickets for the fourth time in June! :excited:

Death Cab is another concert I've been to, but it was before I really knew them. I knew the song The Sound of Settling before the concert, but that is it. They did amazing, but the night itself was kind of miserable for me. There was so much pot being smoked around me (and I just don't do well around smoke in general), and the group I was with snuck to the front where there wasn't room for me. So I was by myself. Death Cab did awesome and became one of my favorite bands, but the experience of the concert was miserable.
So many good concerts I've wanted to see this year. Postal Service was one that I wanted to go to, but I didn't have the money for a ticket before it sold out. Sigur Ros was another this year that I missed out on due to a lack of finances.

I honed in on the website the second the tickets went on sale. I heard it was pretty difficult to score tickets and that in some places they sold out in like twelve minutes.

First one ever was Coachella 2010 (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a7ec9b42970b-600wi).
Second one was Coachella 2012 (http://cdn.stereogum.com/files/2012/01/coachella2012.jpg).
Both were 2 of the best weekends of my life. And the best part wasn't the music; it was the gourmet food. They had everything from Waffle ice cream to crab & garlic fries to other amazing stuff. Hot Chip in 2010 was amazing. They started playing as the sun went down and they slowly raised the beat and shit and it was just epic. My brain was all fuzzy.

I've been to plenty and enjoyed them all, but the best so far was The Decemberists on their Hazards of Love tour. The Hazards of Love (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hazards_of_Love) is a really great concept album/rock opera with a story. Musical themes that weave throughout the album and each character is represented by a different vocalists. Colin Meloy was joined by two female guest vocalists for the album and the tour, and they both had amazing voices. Shara Worden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shara_Worden), especially, hit some insane notes.
Hazards of Love is a solid hour long, and they played it without pausing for a second or saying a fucking thing to the audience. It ended with such a mind-boggling crescendo that every voice and instrument blurred into a single, cohesive, overwhelming sound. I haven't experienced anything like that in another concert since.
Then, they did an intermission, and we came back, and they played older Decemberists stuff for another hour. And that was great, but man, it's hard to beat a rock opera done right.
Runner-up probably goes to The Protomen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_protomen) in San Francisco last year. I'm not a big dancer/mosher at concerts, but by the end of their set there wasn't a mosh pit anymore. There was a mosh room.

I have every ticket or stub from every concert I've ever been to that I keep in a little box, every so often I'll just take them out and reminisce.
Best concert was probably A Perfect Circle in 2004 when they were touring on 'Thirteenth Step'. Two of my favourite albums of all time and they played basically every memorable song from both of them. The music was obviously still really fresh amongst the band and they really seemed to be enjoying being up there. Maynards voice was amazing, much better than the times I've seen him with Tool, and they were really funny as well.
Honourable mentions go to Rage Against the Machine in '07 when they reunited, Karnivool in 2011 (they've been amazing every time I've seen them but this was the best venue and set list), The Butterfly Effect in '05 and Periphery earlier this year. But I have great memories from basically every concert I've been to.

Bryan Adams, when I was around 13 or so - It was alright. I idolised him, but a standing concert was certainly not my thing at the time. I know others who were not as into Bryan Adams enjoyed it a lot more than I did.
Simple Minds, when I got to the UK - It was alright.
Def Leppard, in the first couple of years in the UK - It was amazing. Really great.
Emma's Imagination, a few years back - it felt more like a gig than a concert, a more intimate affair than the previous ones.
Distant Worlds, last year - incredible. Despite having, I suspect, more people there than when I was at most of the previous concerts, it felt more intimate than any of them. The songs were powerful, the atmosphere was amazing, everything was just perfect. I just wish it could have kept going.
In order of preference: Distant Worlds > Def Leppard >>> Simple Minds > Emma's Imagination > Bryan Adams. Despite all that, Bryan Adams remains one of my favourite singers and I think I'd appreciate a live concert with him now far more than I did back then.
If I could go to any concert at this point, it would probably be another Distant Worlds one or perhaps - if it were possible - Ed Sheeran on a small scale gig (ie, one room, easy access to the bar, etc). I'm not a huge concert person, really. I do like gigs at bars and stuff, though, where you can talk your way through without people getting pissed off at you and you have your own table. :p

Pink Floyd-- Saw them as a real little kid and it was the first concert I went to. Pink Floyd has always been real awesome with visuals and this concert was no exception.
Jealous!
Some of my favs;
Arcade Fire - Amsterdam 2007, Neon Bible Tour (seen them 4 times in total, but this one still had some of the fury of Funeral)
Dr. Dog - Amsterdam 2010 and Seattle 2012. Both were insane.
The Hives - Rock Werchter, Belgium 2011. Magic. Mind control. Rock'n'roll.
The Riverboat Gamblers - Haarlem 2004. Fun story; I was fifteen and just 1 year short of being allowed to drink. Luckily one of my best friends had a bit of a beard and looked old enough, so he got the rounds. The Riverboat Gamblers started; we don't know what hit us. Jesus, swinging microphones, a monkey-like singer climbing over the bar and all around the venue and a 5 strong band rocking the hardest I to this point have witnessed. At one point the singer requests a lounge couch from the back to be brought on stage. Before we knew it my friends and me were lying on the couch, on stage, while the singer was jumping from on side to another on the backrest while swinging his mic 360 around. SUCH EPIC.

In late may im going to 2 concerts
Vampire weekend and of monster and men
Andddd the other
Arctic monkeys
Im not sure which in more excited for
Concerts ive gone to:
Say anything - went because a friend wanted me to tag along. Having only heard a few songs they were really good. Quite a fun band to see live, it was just a good time.
Crue fest - its a long list, was mostly fun watching all the drunk guys at the concert.
Yellowcard - holy. Trout. These guys are good live, and i saw them right off of them coming off a hiatus. They played for almost 3 and a half hours straight and it was just amazing. It was also a tiny venue that costed 20 bucks. Best concert ever so far.

Damn, I would've love to go to that Coachella.
Probably one of the Projekt Revolutions I went to, or the Madison Square Garden L'arc en ciel concert. They were the first Japanese band to play there. Mostly the last one because it felt good to be a part of something monumental.

I've been to far too many gigs to sit here and list them all. It's one of those London perks I guess where going to a gig is pretty damn easy because there's always music being played live somewhere. Not to mention every tuesday night in college the best rock club in North London for that time/place had a gig in it by someone... thats how I saw a lot of bands like Electric Six before they got massive.
The best gig I've ever been to comes down to 1 in 3 gigs 2 are by the same artist the difference being the support acts and intimacy.
1st contender: 30 Seconds To Mars live at the O2 Arena. Easily the biggest gig I've ever been to for just one band, the venue is huge and many artists could appear flustered by this fact, granted 30STM is not everyone's cup of tea but if you guys had seen how Jared Leto handled being in such a huge venue in front of such a huge crowd without flinching you'd understand why it was so good.
2nd contender and probably the highest ranked contender: Rise Against Endgame launch gig, Camden's Electric Ballroom. Only 800 people got tickets for this gig, the venue comfortably held roughly 600 of them. It was a crush and the gig got broadcast live over the net to the world. As such the band played it like it was a stadium of 100,000 people not a venue of 800. I found this gig mindblowing, the music alone had me hard as a mountain and covered in goosebumps never mind the hot girl who was with me there. Song wise it was a mashup, pretty much all of Endgame got played and a lot from both Suffer And The Witness and Appeal To Reason. I had an amazing night it's still hard a few years down the line to find the right words, hearing songs like Savior and Survive in that environment was immense especially Survive with it's personal relativity for me.
3rd contender was Rise Against again. I have to admit Rise Against was not at their peak here I've never been a fan of the Acoustics or atmosphere found in the Brixton Academy much of the sound is simply lost as the place originally was a proper theatre but careless modifications on the ceiling level have ruined the natural acoustics of it and replaced it with a gig that whilst loud sounds flat and doesn't carry well. The band had also been on tour solidly for the past 2 years or so since I saw them at the Ballroom you didn't need to look hard at Tim's face to see he and the others were tired. However the support acts here were a lot better than those found in the Ballroom including the legendary guitarist Tom Morello. That was a huge thing, you could have paid more to go see Tom alone let alone see him supporting one of the greatest post-hardcore punk bands of the age.

My favorite was seeing Radiohead last year. There's a beautiful outdoor venue in Cincinnati right off of the Ohio river. They started playing as the sun was setting, and the weather was just perfect, and the acoustics were wonderful, and their light show was superb. It was spiritual. I savored every moment because I have no idea when it'll ever happen again, with how sparsely they tour these days.
I've never really been to a bad show - Modest Mouse wasn't an amazing show, but that was mostly an audio mixing problem at the venue. This summer I'll be seeing Brad Paisley for the second time and hopefully Muse later on. Muse puts on a seriously rockin' live show.

I've been to Download festival twice and am going for just one day this year! So I've seen a fair few bands playing live :D
Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Aerosmith, Rage against the machine, Hollywood undead, skindred, system of a down, switchfoot and so many others.
It's so hard to choose a favourite because they're all good for different reasons, but Rise Against is one of my favourite bands so I'll have to say they were the best. They're fantastic live. I got to the very front of that gig in Leeds and it was completely amazing ^_^
It'll change soon though as 3 Doors Down are playing Download this year! :jess:

Spice Girls was my first concert. in like 96 after Geri left, but before they took that break and came out with their 3rd album.
Blink 182 front row, New Found Glory & Midtown opened for them.
Saw Counting Crows, Garbage (-major- w00t there), No Doubt, Erykah Badu, Hoobastank, and some other people and some other people back when Nashville did River Stages. Garbage had just come out with BeautifulGarbage (the album with Androgyny) & No Doubt was on that "Hey Baby" cd.
Saw Hanson. Lawn tickets were only $15. My sister & I were bored & decided to go. I got into it, anyway heh.
Rock the Mic - 50 Cent, Sean Paul, Busta Rhymes, Bone Crusher, Obie Trice, Fabolous, & Snoop Dogg. 2003. I don't remember anyone's performance other than 50 Cent talking, Busta Rhymes talking ish, & Bone Crusher removing his shirt. I was beyond effed up when we got there. I don't even remember Sean Paul being there. heh.
El Trono de Mexico & El Chapo de Sinaloa - Mexican Duranguense music / rodeo. Don't go to one of these unless you're into being at a concert for about 7 hrs & are cool with being like. The -only- non-Mexican there (seriously). They have several bands opening and then a mini-rodeo with bull riding & games for adults & kids in the audience, and then the headliner & it's not over until like 2 a.m.

The best musical concert was watching Roger Waters perform The Wall in it's entirety in 2010.
Saw him in Montreal in 2011... totally mesmerizing !
Arcade Fire - Coachella 2011 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts7Hzs97TEc)

Went to a plain white t's concert for like 20 bucks a few weeks ago. They were decent, but the opening bands really stole the show.
It was a concert that reeked of hipster, but I couldn't care less... it was a fun time.
The opening shows were:
Andrew Ripp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gf1Q-eRwo2A)
The Wind + The Wave (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLP1ygGgYV8&t=1m9s)
The wind/the wave gave out free albums, and its actually a fantastic album. Andrew Ripp also put on a great show, and he had a fantastic sense of humor.
It definitely wasnt the best show I've been too, but it definitely WAS the most consistently solid show I've ever been to.
I tend to go to shows where the opening bands either SUCK or are extremely forgettable so this was a nice change of pace.
