EU vs. NA datacenters

Since there are a lot of people who are currently unsure about where EoFF's Linkshell(s) are going to end up, I thought I'd do a poll to see where people will be going so we can sort things out before it's too late. Obviously we can reassess later on, but I'm not wanting to get caught too unawares.

I'll stress that this is for your thoughts, not those of the rest of EoFF. Pick "Only" if you have already made your mind up and won't change. Pick 'Preferred' if you've not made your mind up but would prefer one region or another. Pick 'Either' if you seriously don't mind.

I've included some prominent members of my Linkshell (Ariya, Tony, Vaughn etc.) that aren't registered here but are keeping up with things. At the moment it looks like we could have groups on both servers, but it's a tricky call. If people can correct any incorrect assumptions I may have made, that would be fantastic. :p

NA east preferred. I'm not sure if I would play seriously on a west coast server. The lag would be pretty huge. I'm also locked to whichever servers some of my friends are going to start on.

I prefer NA but I don't care as long as there are people I like playing on the same server and at the same time as me.

I am most certainly NA only as the rest of my current endgame and former FFXI group will be on an NA server.

I am only allowed to play on North American servers, as I am compelled to represent my demographic in everything that I do.

I'll probably just join Ouch so that I can mess up all his endgame activities to the best of my ability.

I think BoB and I have more similar playing styles, but we also play at different times so it would be a moot point to be on the same server. Too bad because I bet him and smitten are fun to play with. :(

I can almost feel the pain caused by latency... Yet another thing is the time difference (( which is no problem for me since i'm used to be awake at nights and sleep during daytime XDD, But the other EU people )). However it would be nice to have atleast most of us in the same server :), and i'm reaallllly looking forward to it (( yes i know, i've said it 260x times already))

Update - With two EU-based members of our LS now decided upon moving to an NA server, it's likely the Fat Chocobos LS will be moving to an NA based server if Sargatanas is not already an NA server from the start. This should hopefully mean that all EoFFers can be in one. :) Now we just need to try to ensure that both Ouch!'s LS and Fat Chocobos LS end up on the same server to make it even better...

Hopefully! Knowing our luck, we'll both be JP servers by default and everyone will end up moving different NA servers. We'll have to plan this very carefully, I'm dealing with about three of four different LS's for this because so many LS's have overlapping members and all of them have generally agreed to go NA. Tricky!

Toward the end of 1.x, there was a bit of a split over some e-drama in the group I was part of, and now the core bunch of people I play with are looking to (probably) pick a new server. Ideally, Sarganatas will be an NA server and I can convince the group to go there and join up with BoB's group. If not, I've added BoB to a group so we can coordinate together to try and get everyone to pick the same NA server to move to.

I'm also doing my best to co-ordinate with two other LS's that key members of Fat Chocobos are linked to closely, so yeah, Sargatanas being a NA server will be ideal but if not, we'll hopefully figure out something with their help. Either way, I'm sure we'll have a good sized crowd however it pans out.

Sarganatas is an NA/EU server. I will now start pushing for Sarganatas.

If there aren't separate EU servers, I really hope the US servers are east coast. Europe to west coast USA isn't really a lot faster than Europe to Japan.

There are separate EU servers. Ragnarok is the only Legacy one. Check the FFXIV blog for details. I guess SE are trying to encourage EU and NA players to play together in NA servers.

To be fair, only one or two EU people I know were intending on playing on an EU server. I know entire German LS's are transferring to NA servers to stay with their friends.

Are we sticking on a Legacy server or moving to a new server. Cause I heard that Legacy characters can't leave Legacy servers and new players to ARR can't join those servers. Not sure if thats true though.

We stay on Sargatanas and everyone else can come to our server. Don't worry about what you heard, it's not true. The only rule is that Legacy characters can't move to the brand new worlds which are created for new characters ONLY.

No, anyone can play on Sargatanas.

Again: The ONLY restriction on who can join what server is that BRAND NEW characters - as in, level one characters created in A Realm Reborn (not 1.x) - are the only characters allowed to join BRAND NEW servers. This is the one and only restriction on who can join any specific server.

If you had a character on Sargatanas in 1.x then that character will start on Sargatanas (unless you request a world transfer to a different server).

If you had a character on another server in 1.x then that character will start on that server (unless you request a world transfer to a different server).

If you had a character on any server in 1.x and want to get a world transfer, you can transfer to any of the Legacy servers regardless of whether it has Legacy bonuses or not. You can not transfer to the brand new servers.

If you have never had a character in 1.x then you can create a character on any server.

In my experience of that kind of thing, they're only full for a few minutes, not a few hours/days. So if you can't get in on phase four or launch day, just show a little patience and I'm sure you'll get there. Technically you are, of course, allowed one character per server on up to eight servers so I'm not sure why they would actually stop people from making at least one character on the server of their choice.

In Beta Phase One, I had to wait to get onto my server of choice, but only for about five minutes. Danielle had the same wait.

EDIT: From the looks of it, in this beta at least, Sargantanas seems to be a Legacy server. Wonder if that'll change.

It won't, but there is a temporary restriction at the moment where only 1.x characters can log in to Legacy servers. Once that restriction is removed, you should be able to get your characters set up on Sargatanas no problem.
