Today is somewhat of a special occasion, so I'm making vegetable samosas. They are my husband's favourite food I make, but are quite time consuming - and we like them prepared different ways, so I tend not to make them often. A couple of weeks ago I had a friend call me to ask for the recipe though, so they're pretty rad.
What do you like to bust out on grand occasions? Other than chex mix.

It all depends on what kind of occasion we're talking about, and which season we're in! I have a whole arsenal of choices.

Some variation of a 7-layer salad. Or a really awesome rendition of a tenderloin with vinaigrette.

Paella.
It's fancy, takes a lot of time to prep, it's communal. It's god damn tasty.
I also love making a beef roast, chateaubriand if at all possible.
