Anyone living in the eastern coast of the US will be intervened by the return of these buggers this summer. Anyone looking forward to them? Most likely not. :D

I miss cicadas. When I was young, I spent 3-7 on my grandparents farm in rural PA. Sounds of comfort.

They're not so bad. Just extremely noisy and loud. Also, I hear they taste good. I haven't yet tried one though, but they're said to taste a bit nutty.

You eventually get used to the noise and miss it when its gone.

The sound of cicadas is really relaxing to me. The closest we get in Sweden is crickets, sadly.

I will not be seeing them for something like 13 more years. Also, I hate them. Loud and annoying. They fly like idiots everywheres!

They hit my area when I was a kid and another time just a few years ago. I don't mind them at all. In fact, there were tons when I was a kid and I loved it. I'm not usually that crazy about bugs, but for whatever reason cicadas do not bother me.

I thought they were only supposed to come every 17 years or is that just an old urban legend? They came out when I was in 4th grade and it was awful. They were everywhere and one of them flew down my shirt once... *shudders*

Once every 7 years.

It's not such a bad noise after the first few days, kind of comforting actually. As for the bugs themselves, I hate them as much as I hate all of bugdom, with a homicidal rage.

There are two types of Periodical Cicadas. There are the 17 year cicadas, and then there are the 13 year cicadas, so it's not an urban myth.

Seriously. :(

Also, I had no idea about periodical cicadas or anything. In Auckland they would be out in full force every year.

Semi-related, one time we were invaded by grasshoppers and you couldn't step outside your front door without stepping on some

It was kind of terrifying

I love cicadas. They're very poety. Poetish? Poetical? There we go.

As long as they don't swarm like this it won't be that bad.

I like cicadas. We call them jarflies. They are the music of summer, imho.
