Yup, it's one of my T.V Highlights of the year. I know, it's very camp, very noisy and here in the UK one of our favourite topics to moan about, but I just love Eurovision. It's just great fun. It's not deep, or heavy, or particularly saddening in anyway, for what it is it's just a night of fun. We don't have enough fun and easy humour in my opinion.

I'm not expecting this thread to get much response at all, but basically:

Do you like Eurovision? If not, why?
If you're an American, what do you make of the contest?
What do you do when you're watching Eurovision?
Are you watching tonight's contest?

Discuss Eurovision. I dare you to.

This thread is sponsored by the Fluffy Pink Party (http://home.eyesonff.com/general-chat/150106-fluffy-pink-party.html). Because family-friendly Eurovision and the Fluffy Pink Party go hand in hand.

According to cultural scientist the event allows us to strengthen the European identity while rejoicing in our differences within the kitch-ness of the national stereotypes and competition :monster:

Haven't watched it in years, but I really liked the song that won for Ukraine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clEGEoHNZgo) a couple years ago. It's featured on the GTA4 soundtrack.

I always thought it was in rather poor taste to have a chap have an epileptic fit on stage about 2:10 in.

Alright, look, enough with countries singing in a language that's not English. I grudgingly allow the likes of Spain and France to do it, but smurf me, you knock it off right now Iceland and Moldova, you fish/turnip eating peasants you. If Russia can do it, so can you :colbert:

No, apologists, don't make excuses for them or explain how you love to hear their filthy foreign tongues. We didn't kick/save their asses in World War 2 for nothing :doublecolbert:

My top 3:

3. Finland. Crazy eyed woman screaming about marriage. Lovely stuff.
2. Romania. What the smurf. Beautiful.
1. Greece. Can't get over it. Old man with a majestic mustache surrounded by twirling nancies wearing skirts and armed with tron guitars. Immense.

Although their songs were kind of straight-edge, props to Azerbaijan for "Man contorts in box while woman with epically long dress wanders about" and Ukraine for "Randomly tall man walks in and then walks off; has no bearing on song whatsoever" because that was delightful.

A good year!

My favourites...

1. Greece. Definitely.
2. Ukraine. Every creepy statement I've ever made about a girl fully applies to this lady. Also, she's actually a really good singer, so I still feel vaguely justified. But damn.
3. Romania. Danielle called him 'Megamind', I just found him hilarious. Took me a while to get that he was a guy in the few seconds I saw of him, but immediately sold.

Danielle says...

1. Ukraine. "Because beautiful, and an amazing voice."
2. Greece. "So funny, and a catchy song."
3. Romania. "MEGAMIND. In his BLACK MAMBA."

Also Bonnie Tyler should've just sung Total Eclipse of the Heart compared to whatever the fuck that was. No, I know, it has to be an all new song. I don't care. Trick the eurotrash into thinking she's going to sing Believe in Me or w/e and then burst out AND I NEED YOU NOW TONIGHT, AND I NEED YOU MORE THAN EVER. Don't care if we get disqualified, it would have been great.

Sweden Smorgisboard the best thing about this by so far. Oh man. That was fantastic. Why is voting closed, I want to vote for that.

Also, next year, everyone get into #eoff for this. There have been a few of us but we coulda used more of you guys.

And yes, the smorgisboard is indeed hilarious and well planned.

Crazy thing is that pic doesn't do her justice. xD

Still, she had one hell of a voice on her, too.

It was alright. Nothing amazing, but I could listen to it again. Nothing on Euphoria from last year, though.

A few years ago I downloaded a torrent of the songs, mostly because I distinctly remembered (and enjoyed) "DJ, Please Take Me Away" (Bulgaria; 2008) and "Dancing Lasha Tumbai" (Ukraine; 2007). LOLOL

I also like "Euphoria." It's catchy.

Shoutout to Ukrainian Hodor, who carried the hot girl onstage for reasons nobody knows but it's Eurovision after all

I do agree, Denmark's entry wasn't the best winning song ever, but it was worthy enough. It wasn't my favourite song of the night though. Below are the results of the tradition I always do: electronically scoring both mine and my mum's scores for the evening.

Go on, laugh if you want, I enjoy these nights.
