New Game from Atlus and Vannilaware. I believe it was announced a year or two ago, but I haven't heard much from it since until recently.

Dragon's crown is an Action-RPG/Beat em Up that takes inspiration from Golden Axe. The game will have towns where players can go to shops to purchase equipment get loot appraised, and take up additional quests. it is said that the Fighter, Amazon, and Dwarf classes are for beginners, while the Wizard, Elf, and Sorceress are for the more advanced players.

Dragon's Crown releases on Aug 6.

It's a huge hit in Japan so far. It's received good reviews across the board and it's sold out everywhere there, even the Vita version, incredibly.

I want to play it because it reminds me so much of Golden Axe, which I had so much fun playing back in the day. I'll probably wait awhile to do so, however.

I have the JP version. I'm already sick of it. :( This could be due to playing by myself with AI partners, though. Also, I'm using the dwarf. I originally wanted to use the wizard, but picked the dwarf to see how many cool moves he has. His upward throw is pretty damn powerful and causes a domino effect too. I'll use wizard next because he's just like the wizard from the Capcom D&D games (he should be, considering the games were programmed by the head of Vanillaware). So...yeah.

Spuuky, you'll be appalled when you see the second boss.

A giant harpy.....with enormous boobs that flop around. And she has no arms, so it makes it even funnier.

I'm not sure if I should put it in a spoiler tag, but you fight her maybe 25 minutes into the game, after all the tutorial crap.

I like how the Dwarf's veins glow and how his muscles jiggle when we walks.

There's a move that the Dwarf has, that I can't figure out exactly what's going on. If you hold Square, he poses and starts sparkling. If you let go he sparkles for a couple seconds. I thought maybe it made him invulnerable, but it apparently doesn't.

I saw some videos for it. I didn't realize how ugly and vulgar the art style really was. But I still think I really want it. The girlfriend and I have been going through lots of couch co-op games. They're too rare to pass over something that may be fun to play just because its art style is trying to be offensive or something. At least it better be fun to play

I don't see how the art style is trying to be offensive. The game looks gorgeous to me.

Yeah, I don't see how this could be construed as offensive in any way.

The game in animation may look good. But the art style they chose, especially those concept arts. Its all muscles tits and ass. I am not personally offended. But I do get the feeling they were going out of their way to be ugly

I would take the art style with a grain of salt, personally. Those thighs are comically big.

Like I said, wait until you see the harpy. You'll see how "offensive" it is then. lol

A grain of salt indeed. Its hard to ignore at first glance though. But the dudes indeed look just as ridiculous. But its not an unplayable kind of ugly. Its more of a campy kind of ugly. Since its done on purpose. And in any other regard, it is gorgeous. And I wouldn't let that stop me from enjoying a Diablo/Golden Axe hybrid

What is 'out of proportion'. The boobs are already meh but those butt cheeks and thighs are ginormous O_O. I doubt those ankles could bear all that weight, kinesiologically speaking of course.

Dude she's holding it with both hands ;D

All asinine offense aside, I'mma get it for ps3.

Reminds me of the D&D arcade games which I've been playing a bunch since they hit the consoles recently.

The art style is tasteless. Not funny, not sexy, but tasteless.

Vyk
08-09-2013, 03:41 AM
Even the people who enjoy it seem to agree on that. And they all say if you can get past it that there is a really fun game underneath. So here's hoping its true. And maybe Dragon's Crown 2 will do it more justice with a better art style

It's an excellent grindfest with some great mechanics and apparently lots of replay- played about 20 hours and am just over level 30.

they are trying to get me to keep different sets of gear for different dungeons to keep various buffs pumped up but I still mainly just stick to the overall best stuff.

There is sometimes a campfire scene between multilevel raids you can do where you cook all kinds of sweet foodstuffs for your dude to give bonuses - but with computer allies, they won't make their own so I have to feed the whole party.

Also the multi-level raid system is awesome because for each dungeon in a row that you clear you get bonuses like '+100% gold' etc

apparently it goes to level 99 with two additional playthroughs at higher level like diablo.

Can't recommend enough

I wouldn't say the artstyle is tasteless, as there was actually a reason for it, being that they wanted to go the overblown and exagerated style with the old school sprites in the way they overblow their artstyle in their other games.

I really like the artstyle for most of the game, I do dislike the Warrior, Amazon, and Sorceress though. The overblown styalization doesn't really work for me on your normal human characters, Works well for everything else though. If I hadn't been so far behind on my gaming this past couple weeks I'd be farther in, though as it stands I'm not even to where you unlock online, though I almost have Shin Megami IV beet. :p

Level 32 right now, only one Talisman to go to collect all 8. I'll take on the Red Dragon tomorrow at some point when people are actually on, as it seems not very busy this time of night. :p

What character are you using? I've just started hunting for these talismans, but I haven't been successful yet. This is the point of the game where things get hard and it doesn't help that I use the sorceress who has low damage output and takes forever to charge MP.

NeoCracker

I'm the Elf. You get the Talismens by clearing out the B path of each area. A couple you can actually screw up though if you don't kill them in time.

Elf can be tricky to use, but god can she bring the hurt.

Tried fighting the red dragon with a bunch of cpu characters helping - waste of time unless they're over level 35 as they tend to not know wtf is going on.

Playing with PUGs is almost as bad.

Hard mode is where the game actually starts. The dwarf is awesome - throwing dudes is sweet. May play a second character as your armory is for all of your characters. That means any gear you can bear to not sell that multiple classes can use, you should keep for future playthroughs with those classes.

NeoCracker

Okay, what the hell is a PUG?

This is the first non dog related thing I found. Pugs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pugs)

I don't think that is right. :p

Spuuky
08-17-2013, 06:26 PM
In the context of multiplayer gaming, a "PUG" is a "Pick-Up Group" which just means random people who all say "hey, anyone else want to play this zone/level/content/etc?" and they get together and play.

This is as opposed to groups of people who actually know each other and/or regularly play together, like a clan, guild, or group of friends.

Araciel
08-18-2013, 03:30 PM
What he said.

PUGs tend to just rush through without letting you search rooms for cascades of treasure, or go to any 'secret' areas, or just plain mess stuff up by staying on one side of the screen, pulling your character.

Just got to inferno mode. The best way to grind is to keep playing random dungeons in quick succession because your score and treasure payout just keeps snowballing. The camp cooking scene mini game is so awesome but so simple heh.

The quests have become clever since many of them are solo-only in order to get the highly sought after skill point increases.. More important than gaining levels is using the skills to make your dude more versatile or dangerous.

The rune spelling part is becoming more and more etched into my memory, though some of the rarer ones still elude me. It's rough when you only see one symbol on the wall and have to cycle through your memory for which two symbols are missing, or if you just didn't see a second one somehow.

NeoCracker

The Rune Spells are the only thing about the game I don't really enjoy. I don't really care to memorize shit like that, but that
s a rather minor complaint. :p

Going to clear out the last 5 quests from the normal difficulty before trying for the rest of the talismens for the second antient Dragon.

Currently I'm really digging the Elfs Rune magic, as well as Rapid Shot. Those are pretty much my main focus as far as skill pints go, that and Arrow Capacity.
