I agree Ohio sucks. Except for King's Island. King's Island does not suck. Don't tell me about Cedar Pointe 'cuz I'm never been there and it's too expensive. Southern Ohio sucks even more than the rest of Ohio.

Arizona does not suck. But then again, I'm partial to the Desert weather and the ease of navigation thru Phoenix.

Tennessee sucks. Well. Not as bad as I thought it did. Living in BFE, TX changed my opinion -real- quick. SouthEast TN sucks. Not the rest of it though. XD .... Kinda.

This. This is correct. No other state has so many batshit insane laws, politicians, and law enforcement officials as Arizona. Several states in the South are trying (including Florida, unfortunately), and even Michigan and Wisconsin's governors seem to want to join the parade of terrible, but none of them has so far managed the level of concentrated heinousness that Arizona has just yet.

I've lived in Ohio my (whole life)-(3yrs) and I think it's a pretty alright place. It's just really boring in some areas, which breeds problems that people confuse with a place being awful. It's occasionally too conservative for my tastes, but that's the US for you. There's a lot of really beautiful places to go, a decent amount of work, and some really good people.

And yeah, there's bad people too. There's bad people everywhere. I don't think Ohio has much of a monopoly on that.

Joe Arpaio's crimes are nearly on par with Hitler's. All of that stuff you just mentioned about his prisons? Well, those prisons are for non-whites. When I lived there, he was having his deputies scour the street and if they looked suspicious at all, they'd be thrown in a van, taken down to the station and questioned mercilessly; probably tortured. Did I mention that he only does this to Mexicans? Racial profiling. It didn't matter if they were an actual, well to do citizen of the United states or not. He was literally tearing families apart, and he probably still is.

On top of that, it came to the attention of the DA that Arpaio was neglecting hundreds and hundreds of Mexican-specific kidnappings, disappearances, rapes and molestations. He could not provide an answer at the time other than "we've been busy with the war on drugs". I won't respond to what you think prisoners should and should not be able to do, but I will tell you that Tent City is something he should be burned alive for.

Arpaio is scum, and one day he will get what's coming to him.

Was that propaganda taken directly from an Arpaio press release? First, yes, I stand by the shocking proposition that the state should pay for state prisons -- if you don't want to spend so much money on them, don't send so many people to prison over stupid trout for ridiculous lengths of time. Second, the only people who think prison is enjoyable are white TV commentators; as someone who has actually been to a variety of jails and prisons in states which do not have Arpaio's asinine policies and have interacted with hundreds of inmates, I call bulltrout on that. Some locally-run, low-security places aren't bad, but state-controlled prisons are miserable places.

Lastly, if that were all Joe Arpaio did, he wouldn't be the evil, power-hungry bigot he is. Instead, he encourages racial profiling and harassing non-whites without any individualized suspicion of criminal activity; he houses some inmates outdoors, regardless of excessive heat during the summer or cold during the winter; and he has a history of abusing his position for political gain, including one incident of having a judge arrested after unfavorable rulings. He only maintains his power by feeding off of uninformed prejudice.

Lol.. You know I'd never seen a chain gang until I moved to AZ? I didn't know they still existed. And there was a guard with a big 'ole military rifle and his German Shepherd.

And yes, Tent City is definitely an atrocity. But from what I've read, he may not do it as much to white & black people, but I'm pretty sure he does the torturing to them too. I'm almost positive I saw that on t.v. ... He was doing a tour of tent city and an inmate said "Eff Arpaio!" - immediately 1 month solitary confinement. He like put him there on camera. He's a monster well-known for what he does. I don't know how or why he's still the Sheriff.

I'm almost positive Robert DeNiro's role in "Machete" is based on Arpaio ... Minus the dealings with people in Mexico and whatnot.

OK so maybe I should a clarify. I don't agree with every single policy he has but, I do agree with the way the prisons are. I don't agree if they are segregated, that's wrong but regardless of color you should be forced to wear pink and work your ass off to pay for you food and board. I know far too many people who commit crimes just to have 3 meals a day and hang out with their friends in the yard. I have multiple friends who have spent time in federal and state prisons. they come home and act like they were at summer camp seeing all their long last friends. Yes fucked up stuff happens but it happens in the outside world as well. I just think prison should be made as horrible as possible without inflicting harm.

And the amounts of people and their reasons for being there are an entirely different subject that I think most everyone can agree, needs to be fixed. But that does not mean that those who deserve to be rotting in there should have a happy go lucky time.

New Jerzey does suck. I went there for a couple of days. A dude flew me up to visit him. I immediately wanted to kill myself. I hated every second I spent there.

Like, he thought he'd be all cool and take me to Atlantic City ...... On a Tuesday Afternoon in -September-. Who does that? It was cold and full of old people! He didn't even buy me drinks! I was so irritated. heh.

EDIT:

The only pink they actually wear is like their socks & boxers & thermal tees. It's not like it's head-to-toe pink.
Besides, tons of dudes wear the color nowadays. It's not -that- embarrassing or humiliating.

At least they get comfy inmate gear. I spent 42 hrs in jail and those jumpsuits made out of tarp are the worst.

EDIT 2:

Arpaio indeed does torture those other than illegal immigrants.

Dehumanizing people who have committed crimes has been shown to increase recidivism. The prison system already stigmatizes people who have been in, to the point that felons will have difficulty ever getting jobs beyond menial labor - which makes crime an even more appealing option to support themselves. The modern prison system is a failure in almost every way and making it more brutal towards inmates only serves to make the problems worse.

The dude's 80 though. Maybe he'll kick the bucket soon. Fingers crossed. I also read that he's been attempting to "adopt" a more humane persona - actually having his officers respond to emergency calls from/for illegals crossing in the desert and -helping- them before sending them packing. Mostly because that Judge Snow made him change somewhat. But, it's all too little too late and not anything sincere.

Funnily enough, when my ex out there got locked up, he was never put in Tent City. He was put in Towers over on Gibson Ln (by Durango & 31st Ave). He was later moved to prison after I came back to TN. I'm assuming Nogales or Douglas since he was illegal and would just get sent back across to Mejico anyway.

I've been -through- Mississippi. And the majority of the continental U.S. minus a handful of states in the Midwest & Northwest, & a few in the Northeast.

I didn't find anything particularly enjoyable about MS. Or Alabama. My youngest cousin got a contract with a hospital down in Mobile (he's like a .. Doctor or Brain surgeon or something) that pays a pretty penny. I guess it's worth leaving Dayton, OH for? IDK. It's a toss up as to which one would be better...

My parents consider my home county "God's Country" 'cuz it's just soooo beautiful and they miss my hometown and blah blah blah. I'm like "Gag! You do realize that McMinn county at one point was #1 in the nation for Meth labs, right? If it's lost that title since then, anyway..." ... My dad was all "That's blasphemous!" and I'm like "Uh Hel-lo! Look at your meth mouth son & his cracked out wife, dog. For real." ... But I digress.

What's ironic though... I thought the closer you got to the U.S./Mexico border, the better the Mexican food was supposed to be. EH! Wrong! I worked at this crappy Messcan place (that didn't serve alcohol 'cuz that part of Texas is -dry- in every direction for at least 30 miles. Until you hit Texarkana or Idabel, OK) and like... They pre-cook their fajita meat every morning, numero uno. And then like here in Nashville, when you order even just a lunch fajita... The meat & veggies all come on the skillet, then you get a separate plate for the rice & beans & pico de gallo/sour cream/guacamole. The place in New Boston, they cram the meat & veggies onto the skillet -with- the rice & beans on there and then you only get sour cream & pico de gallo with it. No guacamole. & it's like $8.

I ordered a dinner fajita to go - Shrimp, Chicken, Beef mix... It -all- came in -1- styrofoam container with the rice & beans in the little cups and the guacamole & pico de gallo ('cuz that's what you get with the dinner. No sour cream) in a separate container. And I paid like $17 for that ish. And none of the meat is marinated. They tried to say "Oh it comes pre-marinated!" and I'm like "Dude. Salt & Pepper is -not- a marinade. At all." It all tasted like cardboard.

Where my ex works, you can order the "Parilla Mexicana" (comes with shrimp, chicken, beef, chorizo, and pork) for the same price and the meat comes in its own metal container, the rice & beans in another, & the guacamole salad and ish in another.
