There's plenty of time to invent characters and situations that lead to a defined person to some extent. This post is also philosophical in a sense.
If you're the bad guy, why should I have any feelings towards you when you can prove competence?
Simply put, you know a crime is wrong and to pull a 'king of the world' what could you have done to get out of the situation?
It would be up to a judge to determine if you're sane for trial? The question is do you plan such an act where you waive your right to one?
I suppose the reason why we do bad things at all is not only for self-serving, but we can no longer go after the source?
I know this needs more elboration. It's easy to say 'good' has to wait and reaact to something bad.
