Potatoes can be turned into many different dishes from fries to dipping chips to a nice jacket potato.

But which one is the best...? Reveal to me your feelings on this matter!

You Brits call them a 'banger in the mouth', right?

Noo?

Bangers are sausages, not potatoes. xD

Also, it's a toss up between roast potatoes and mash with stilton cheese! :jess:

Buttery mashed potatoes with salt and pepper, tater tots with sriracha, truffle fries, steak fries, crinkle-cut fries (the best kind), beer-battered fries, shoestring fries, potato au gratin, potato casserole or mash with the addition of cauliflower, lemon-tomato potato wedges, all manner of potato chips (I prefer the thinly sliced kind to the wavy kind), baked stuffed potatoes...

Potatoes are clearly excellent and need little to enhance their enjoyment: Salt, pepper, oil/butter/cheese, cilantro/chives/parsley.

I know what a banger is. I was making an Arrested Development reference in response to the thread title. x)

I most often eat potatoes in the form of french fries, I guess. But the best is a baked potato with chives, butter, and cheese. Maybe some little pieces of bacon, too.

Bangers in the mouth? lmao.. Mmmmkkkay

WTH is a jacket potato though?

I like me some super crispy fried 'taters with ketchup. And potato soup. And mashed red potatoes with garlic & manchego cheese.

I like sweet potatoes mashed with sour cream. Not mashed with OJ & topped with marshmallows. Ick. And sweet potato fries with -ketchup-. Not no damn caramel. Weirdos.

perogi > gnocci > skins/jackets > latke > donut > roasted(bravas) > chip/fries > gratin/scallop > salad > crisp/potato chips > mash > bake > soup

potato casserole is a family dish that is the best of all but I am sworn to secrecy concerning this dish so I do not expect anyone to understand

Just a whole baked potato still with the skin on. Usually comes with some sort of topping like coleslaw, cheese, etc.

Mashed potato is best, but all forms of potato are acceptable.

Mashed. With milk and a looooot of butter.

French fries are a close second.

I cannot tolerate mashed potato. I'm sorry, shout at me all you wish.

Just, for me, the texture of the mash is allll wrong. it's akin to eating baby food. It's all.. mushy and just ugh! I gag if I eat too much mashed potato.

But, for me, the best ones are either roasted or french fried. Either are my favourite.

Mashed potatoes are only good if they have some lumps.

The hell they are! The secret is to not add too much milk/butter so they still have some stiffness to them and aren't just slop.

It's funny how much we all seem to disagree over food. I'm surprised that any of us get to eat out with anyone.

I added too much milk once. It was a bad time and nobody enjoyed dinner that evening. :(

It's easy to put too much milk, but I put in like a cup of butter and they're never too mushy. I like them slightly lumpy as well.

You can't have too much butter in potatoes. You should be careful with milk, though. Add just a splash or two at a time. But if they have some lumps, they're waaaay better.

Mmm, potato milkshake!

Yeah, ballsing up recipes sucks; especially when it's something that's pretty easy normally! I was making pasta sauce at a friend's house recently and I asked for some soy milk, which they handed to me. It was only as I was pouring it into the rest of the mixture that I realized that they had handed me vanilla flavoured milk :roll2

It's cool though, I rescued it; I just had to envisage Gordon Ramsay yelling at everyone ^_^

you just need to find that one person who shares most of your tastes (and is not so overly critical of your tastes that they can't allow themselves to be in the same room as you when eating).

baked potatoes might just beat out mashed as my favorite because of the skins. don't tell me bout no skins on yer mashed taters, they ain't the same

I know, I don't always eat alone! I was just trying to imagine if people commented during meals the way that they seem to post about food :D

What are your feelings on stuffed potatoes?

I like the potato skins appetizer dish with the cheese and the sour cream and the bacon, but I don't like baked potatoes and I don't like skins in my mashed potatoes.
