Let us discuss this amazing root that gives food that amazing kick. Why do I love it? I can eat food coated in it and feel like my head will explode and then it magically disappears, unlike oil based spiciness that takes forever to go away.

Show your love of wasabi!

I don't like wasabi, but I don't dislike it like I do most strong or spicy tastes.

You know, I LOVE spicy food and I love hot sauces and peppers.

But I never really took a liking to wasabi. It's ok, but kinda off putting too. But I also dislike horseradish and I think the two are similar.

I thought wasabi technically was horseradish.

I love the stuff. I will cram as much on my sushi as my nose can physically handle.

It is also called Japanese horseradish,[2] although horseradish is a different plant (which is often used as a substitute for wasabi).

I did not know this. I now know this. themoreyouknow.jpg

It's okay.

This may sound insane, but you haven't tried Wasabi, until you've tried Wasabi ice cream.

I wasn't a violent person until you started posting in the food forum.

You're afraid to expand!

An old Chinese saying (I think):

"To achieve flowing river, you must choke the crowing cock".

I don't really like wasabi but then again I don't like most anything spicy or "hot".

Horseradish is pretty good on pork chops, though.

Bro, that's pretty gay.

I eat jalapenos and chilis by the jar, but I can't stand wasabi. It tastes awful to me.

It's a lot of bang for little flavour, I find. I prefer a tiny smidgen of a drop of soy with my sushi, or nothing at all.

Also, Danielle's mum (quite uneducated in the ways of Japanese cuisine) ate a spoonful of wasabi thinking it would be like mushy peas. You can kind of imagine how that went down.

Probably about the same way me accidentally putting a giant ball of MSG in my mouth went down. xD

Did either of you get pictures? I'm sure the faces were priceless.

What does MSG look like on it's own anyway? Is it like lard or something? :p

EDIT: Seen a pic on Wikipedia that looks like salt or something. o_x

Well it was covered in spices so I thought it was a part of the dish

Me and J love going to this one Yakinuku place in Shibuya in particular and with certain cuts of beef they bring out a fresh wasabi root and grate it right there and it is amazing. Way less harsh than the kind you get with Sushi (although I like that as well).
