I know we all have movies that we really enjoy, but the special features in films are often pretty lackluster. Are there any big special editions or box sets of films that you all have seen that you enjoy for the extra content?

My favorite so far has been the Extended Lord of the Rings trilogy. As a kid, I watched all of the films with a majority of the commentary, and I have also seen the entire Appendices.

I've watched every single thing on the Extended Editions of the LotR Trilogy. And I wept with joy while doing it.

My name appears in the fan credits for the extended editions too. :omghey:

I've actually always wanted the Advent Children special edition, but never enough to justify purchasing it.

It's not a special edition, but the extra content in 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World' is my favourite in any blu ray. There's 4 commentary tracks and all of them are brilliant, and the other stuff like the making of and deleted scenes are pretty interesting as well.

The Matrix box set also has an insane amount of special features.

Extended one million hours special editions of LotR. Special two-disc edition of The Royal Tenenbaums (Parker is going to one-up me with this). And then I have the special editions of Labyrinth, Big Fish, Star Trek and a few others I don't remember that I didn't need need to have but bought them anyway.

I'd like to own the rest of Wes Anderson's films and the Batman trilogy in special edition format. Additionally, I have wanted the Dr. Katz box set for many years. One day I will acquire it, goddamn it! Seinfeld too, probably.

My roommate was just talking about Dr. Katz earlier today. I had never heard of it. Also, I still have never seen Scott Pilgrim. It makes me sad. I should through in the ultimate edition of The Evil Dead is quite excellent from the bit I've seen of it.

Definitely the LOTR extended versions - fantastic boxset. Also, the five disc Blade Runner one is very exhaustive.

It's a shame the all new song that the Lion King Platinum Edition features sucks. I know it's in the Broadway version, but it ruins the scene for me.

Also I know I go on about the Olympics a lot but:

The director's commentary for the opening ceremony was fantastic along with all the "how was it made" featurettes for the special effects and graphics and then the behind the scenes with some of the BBC Sports crew - the one where the rowing guy is practically in tears and has lost his voice after Katherine Granger comes home for gold was just touching.

Extended LOTR goes without saying. I also really like the 4 disc collectors box set of Titanic :jess:
