smurfing suck.

How do you keep yourself awake? This isn't specifically a food thread, so it's not going in QK.

I generally go with coffee. If someone can get me excited or super enthused about something that interests me, too (or if they piss me off, that works too) I tend to wake up pretty quickly.

The fastest I ever got my ass out of bed was when I woke up in the middle of the night to find my bedroom absolutely engulfed in smoke. Turns out my dumbass roommate left the burners on in the kitchen with some hot dogs that nearly caught our house on fire at 2am. :colbert:

What wakes you up when you need it and what crazy situations have you been woken up in the you had to snap out of it ASAP?

Caffeine does nothing for me; I hate coffee and I hate energy drinks. When I'm sleepy the only thing that can save me is willpower.

I usually smoke a fat crack rock. It works. Just stay hydrated and brush yo teeth. You'll be aight.

No really though, coffee and any other highly caffeinated drinks have an opposite effect on me. I break out in cold sweats & get the shakes & then I wanna go to sleep.

Unsweetend ice tea or Diet Coke (from Mickey D's) is about all the caffeine I can handle. I usually just suffer through it though and force myself to be "awake & peppy"

Heavily caffeinated soda.

I just stay awake. It's rare that I have trouble staying awake. I can get really tired but if I want to stay up, I just power through it, I guess.

The easiest way for me to remain awake is to be on the phone to friends or family. I just get really happy when I'm talking with people, I guess. The more I care about them and the less often I see them, the more adrenaline will just keep me going.

As a last resort, yeah, sugary or caffienated juice/soda drinks can do it.

I get hyper and horny as hell when I have one of these. I can go for hours. I feel like this drink was made with me in mind.

Energy drinks will give you the sweet satisfaction of type 2 diabetes shortly before you die of cardiac arrest.

I drink a few cups of black coffee a day to get some pep in my step, but I try not to go too crazy on the caffeine, especially since I found out I have a heart condition. When I had a LAN party recently, I drank a large coffee after a tall boy of Mountain Dew and had about 15 minutes where I wasn't sure if I was going to die or not. So I've tried to take it easy.

There there. If you don't already know, I will not tell you. Such innocence shouldn't be messed with.

Let's just say.. You -don't- wanna know what it is, much less someone who's ever been a um. habitual user of the stuff. It isn't pretty.

I know she means crack. I just haven't heard of the phrase 'smoke a fat crack rock'.

I have now been educated thanks to Google.

It's what my brother used to say when he was all hopped up on it. In his terribly awful Southern Redneck Accent and no teeth. "I'ma get me a big 'ole fat crack rock"... I caught him trying to get the cd player out of my car to go sell it for more one day. I nearly killed him. And his idiot wife. No bueno, man. No bueno.

In response to the OP, a few of you may be slightly aware that I am totally n love with coffee. If ever I have an important project at Uni I would have to get me a grande latte with caramel and sometimes an extra shot. Can't work without coffee. It's strangely soothing to me too, something about a nice hot coffee! YUMMMM now I want coffee

Those are okay, but the silver's my go-to. Usually chug one midway through my shifts at work to get through the rest of the day. I also get four hours of sleep every night, but you take what you can get.

The Red Bull Hierarchy According to Calliope:

Sugar-Free > Red > Regular > Silver > Blue > Gasoline > Lighting Oneself on Fire > Carb-Free

I love Red Bull, and am highly aware that it is terrible for me. It's also expensive, so I don't drink it very much any more. I used to drink a staggering amount of Red Bull/Diet Coke/Coffee every day, which raised my alertness and efficiency to what I needed it to be, and also gave me terrible palpitations. I also appreciate that Red Bull comes in 8.4oz cans, whereas most default energy drinks and coffees here are 12oz or more which is normally too much for me.

Now I drink a cup of coffee every other day. Cold water, fresh air, having something to eat, going for a quick walk and a cup of coffee all help me perk up, but to be honest I have more trouble staying asleep than staying awake these days.

I don't do energy drinks or coffee. If I really have to get going, I can usually kick myself into wide-awake mode. Or turn on the hot water on the sink and let my hands in it, enough to were the neurons in my head kick in and then I'm wide awake; that's an extreme case. When it's one of those days when it just doesn't seem to end, I pace around endlessly if possible or try some other physical movement to keep myself from dropping dead asleep.

Sour food/drinks/tequila works too.

I don't drink them any more, but when I was in my teens I use to work at a bar and grill that served Red Bull as some sort of alcohol drink mix thing and since I worked there I was able to get half off the price of everything there, which made Red Bulls $1.50. I had 12 one day and I couldn't sit still. To this day I don't think I've ever worked so hard and I don't think I went to sleep until 4am two days later. I also use to put Monster in my Captain Morgan rum which at the time I thought was really awesome.

I don't need those things to stay awake anymore. I usually don't sleep at night anyway and if I do it isn't for very long. The thing that woke me up the fastest in my life is I thought an intruder broke into my apartment because I heard a huge crash while Jas and I were in bed sleeping. I jumped right out of bed and marched out of the room with my fists up ready for I didn't even know what, I just wasn't going to get murder/raped without at least taking someone with me. Turns out it was just my cat. She decided she wanted to play on the toilet and fell in and the lid trapped her in there.

I'll have booze on top of a 5 Hour Energy if I want to stay up with friends because I guess I like to see if my heart will explode. At work I'll have a decent sized cup of coffee to give myself a kick in the pants.

I couldn't drink the silver, too much citrus for my tastes, but I like the red one as well. :greenie:

The last time I took an energy drink, I thought I was having a little heart attack

Oh god. I took one of those Black Jacket whatever energy pills one morning, knowing full well it was probably a bad idea, but someone had them and I was tired, so I said "eff it"....

I was freaking out all morning - cold sweats & jitters like a mofo & then hot sweats & more panicking. The only thing that even remotely helped was standing in the walk-in cooler in front of the air vent. It was awful. And then as soon as I got off, I went straight home and got in bed.

I drink coffee throughout my workday cause it's available and I'm probably a bit addicted, but it doesn't really do much for me in terms of awakeness, as far as I know. I rarely drink coffee on weekends and vacations and don't really notice a difference, nor much desire for the stuff.

This is probably gonna sound cheesy but I think being involved in, and caring about my work helps a lot. My last job consisted of the exact same type of work and the exact same hours, but I cared a lot less about the company and the work I did, and had a really hard time staying awake. I socialise much more at my current work, too, which probably helps as well. I also take my bike to work every day. 15 minutes of fresh air blowing in your face can do wonders.

I don't think I've had an energy drink in a decade. Not fond of the stuff at all.

Jamba juice smoothie with an energy boost in it does the trick as does black Earl Gray tea, or coca cola.

Blue edition, is that the one without sugar or other calories in?

So essentially, you're consuming an energy drink that doesn't contain metabolizable energy. I always thought energy drinks without energy was a funny concept.

In either case, where I work, we actually produce several brands of energy drinks. I bet you can't guess what keeps me awake in the mornings.

I very much enjoy the taste and aroma of coffee. But often times when I drink coffee, I have borderline schizophrenic dreams and it causes me a lot of stress to the point where I can't sleep and I get really depressed. :(

So I am usually very tired. Very very tired all the time. I don't know how to fix it.

My band survived solely on 'Mother' when we were recording our album. 4 days of drinking nothing but energy drinks and eating greasy take out, I felt like death at the end of it and to this day II don't enjoy the taste of Mother anymore, which was the only energy drink I enjoyed without alcohol.
